I installed VB5 because when I started a new forum I thought it would be best to start with the most up to date software.

I was wrong. I have had a VB4 forum for a couple of years and love it. VB5 is like going 5 steps backwards. Key features are missing and posting is a nightmare (cursor jumps around, entire posts get deleted for no reason).

Is it possible to migrate at least users to a VB4 install? I'd of course love to be able to migrate threads also, but the forum is new enough that I don't think the users will be too upset if they have to start threads over.

I did see a service that will downgrade VB5 to VB4 for quite a bit of money, more than the software cost, so am not interested in that. I would pay a reasonable amount, if needed.

Unless you have written some sort of import script for the users, then it isn't possible to move your vb5 users (or topics) to vb4. There isn't any existing script that I know of that will do this.

One can always hope... Since the board is still small and new I might just install VB4 and ask them to move. Problem is many are new to forums and may get all kinds of confused.

Will think about it some more.

Thanks!

That's what Notices are for. :)

My members have no clue what notices are :) Most are really green and coming over from *gasp* Facebook. Which is one of the reasons I want to go back to VB4, at least FB Connect works with that.

I too. VB5 - the most uncomfortable script when i use. I am strongly recommended for all to use VB3 or VB4.

Yes, I totally recommend VB4 and NOT VB5 at this point in time. I did find a company to migrate my install from VB% to 4, will post if it works. I'm not betting the farm on it :)

Personally I would rather pay for each major update of VB4 than to move to VB5....did few posts recently on vb.com and...:

my noob forums are more functional :D

Hope one will help you with that migration, but if its like less than 100 users or 10-20 active ones just let them know and do new fresh install...in future it will be easy for you to upgrade if needed

Let us know how you did it, share info with us :]
