Blocking Spam?

Hello All,

Could anyone tell me the best way to block spam? What do you use to block spam from your forum? I was going to install Spam-O-Matic, but I just wanted to see what everyone else does to block spam. Is Spam-O-Matic the best mod to block spam?

On my last forum I had to disable the registration and requested via a post within the forum to have people email me to activate their membership manually, for each member, I had zero members email me and over 1k spam bot members register. I just setup a new forum last night and I don't want to deal with spam and bots and would like to have a normal registration process.
Any suggestions?

vB org need to learn how to block spam, so much of it nowadays, with links too.
You'd have thought this place would have at least used a few Spam link mods..lol..

We use these, to prevent them from creating accounts in the first place:

A series of 6 random Q&A Human Verification Options (industry related to forum purpose)
VB Bad Behavior (checks for mischievous scripts)
Spambot Stopper (if a bot fills it out too fast, it will reject)
Glowhost Spam-O-Matic (Checks email and IP against known spammer blacklists. Make sure you DONT have the username checking enabled)
Mandatory custom fields (industry related, for verification)
Once email verified, they're moved to a temporary group. Then the mods manually move them to their final security group, and send them a personal welcome email. (based on membership status to our trade org)


The above tools stop 99.9% of them.
