Brought to you by BirdoPrey5 / Qapla.com (http://www.qapla.com/mods/)

This was a mod I made on a whim of a suggestion at my Off-topic forum. Wouldn't it be cool if :random: inserted a random smilie? So I made it- and it is fun to us, especially for sites with hundreds of smilies.

Live Demo: www.qapla.com/mods/showthread.php/996-Random-Smilie-Demo

This mod will replace :random: (or any string you specify) in the post with a random smilie from your smilie collection. It makes this change before the post is saved so it never changes again after the initial insertion.

The mod by default will pick from ALL your smilies but if you prefer there is an option to only pick out of specific smilie categories if you have your smilies organized.

Works in Threads/Posts and PMs.

=========== COMPATIBILITY ===========

Should work on all VB 3.8 (and 3.7, and maybe 3.6) and all 4.x versions.

Too bad it didn't post the smilie automatically without having to type the word, members will have no idea how to use this mod...

You could create a smilie called :random: with a ? or something as the image if your users need to click on something. Wold still work.

I don't think you follow me correctly, how would a member know what to type in a post to make the random smiley show. The only one who knows what to type in the new post is the admin because they set it up in the admincp settings...

Maybe an editor button using a bbcode to place the :random: code (or whatever they use) would be better...

Actually I have this working using thread stencil mod together with your random smiley mod. It places the word :random: or whatever I choose to use for random smiley mod. Then I add the word :random: using the thread stencil mod settings per forum. It will place the word :random: in any post I have set and will display the random smiley code automatically in the new thread...
