PhotoPlog: The Pro Gallery - Version 2.1.6 for vBulletin 4.2.1

This is a full-fledged and completely integrated image gallery add-on for vBulletin. No template edits are necessary. This is the same version that was licensed for sale back in the vBulletin 3 days, but it has been upgraded to vBulletin 4.2.1 and is being offered without charge and is not feature-limited. You get the full pro version.

It comes with various thumb, image, and display settings, has the ability to determine and display EXIF information, is integrated with several packages including Highslide, and you can set a number of usergroup and category permissions, moderate comments and files, add custom fields, FTP import, mass move, and more.

How to upgrade from PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.5 to PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.6?

You can follow the readme file, but this is a small change to fix a bug I inadvertently introduced
(sorry!!) when I moved the code around. All you need to do is one minute of work as follows:

FTP these three files from the PhotoPlog ZIP:

/forum/admincp/photoplog_plugins.php
/photoplog/functions.php
/photoplog/settings.php

Reimport the following XML file via the vB ACP:

product-photoplog.xml

Do NOT uninstall !!!
Do allow overwrite.


How to upgrade from any other version of PhotoPlog to PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.6?

Backup first and then follow the upgrade instructions in the readme file.


Additional questions...
Will there be a PhotoPlog version for vBulletin 5? Probably not. My understanding is that vBulletin 5 already includes a gallery.
So what happened to you anyway? Personal issues. My sincerest apologies to anyone negatively affected by my absence.
What about GARS, GAB, GAZ, GAL, and GeekMart? I'm not sure if I'll update these, and probably not anytime soon.

@sadiq6210: I'm not sure what it'd all take to get CKEditor 4.1.1 as vB's default editor. One of the first steps would probably be to compare the CKEditor 3.6.2 version in vBulletin to the stock CKEditor 4.1.1 version and see how to include YAHOO.util.stuff and vbulletin.stuff and then try it and see what breaks, find out why, edit in a fix, repeat.

@hsoen: Sorry, the images directory is a relative subdirectory to the main gallery directory.

@Reece^B: Back up your gallery database tables and images directory then follow the instructions in the readme file to upgrade from lite to pro. Don't of course overwrite your images directory!! Set the config file, leave the prefix file as blank, and FTP all the stuff over (except the images directory or it'll overwrite your current one) and then import the XML file allowing overwrite. The upgrade will change the database tables but won't mess with the images themselves.

@smirkley: Good question. I don't have that version installed to test. Last version I played with before 4.2.1 was 4.0.0 and that was before the inclusion of the CKEditor. My guess is that it'll install just fine (you might need to edit the XML file and remove the dependency though).

If you post the content of the photoplog_customfields table, I can tell you what rows to remove (or you can figure it out by looking where the doubles are based on catid in that table).

If anyone else has a problem, just let me know. It is likely something minor that can be easily fixed. For PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.5 on vB 4.2.1 I moved stuff around b/c I got sick of waiting and waiting for the XML import, but I accidentally introduced a bug that I didn't come across in my tests. Said bug is now fixed in PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.6 so thanks for letting me know.

Thanks I did find the duplicates..It happens when I add a new category but only on that new category the others are fine..

Edit: Found the other two duplicates that were causing the problem sorted now,thanks again.

I'm having the blank portal page issue as well and I am not seeing how the 'How to upgrade from PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.5 to PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.6?' steps are any fix for that.

Installation went fine and PhotoPlog works but unless I disable the mod my VBA portal and all associated portal pages are completely blank. I did go through the steps mentioned in the vbadvanced.txt file and am using the latest version.

Can this mod be used in shared webhosting with limited inodes since it stores images in file directory instead of vBulletin attachment mysql database?

@espkaruna: Try the attached file with vBA and please let me know the output. My guess is that a variable is not in scope but without access to a site with the problem, it is hard to tell without an actual error message or something to go on, sorry.

@hsoen: What is your inode limit? Just looking at HG as an example, the shared level of hosting has a limit of 250K. Do you think your gallery would be bigger than that (minus what you already have stored)? If so, IMO you'd up your hosting account to VPS or dedicated, not serve that many files from a database. You wouldn't want that many files to be served from a database, and if your gallery got that big, you'd have a rather active site and would probably need better hosting specs anyway. HTHs.

@calorie: Yeah, I am with HG. Not yet hit the 250K inode limit. Even upgrade to VPS also subject to 1000K inode limit. Look like as the gallery grows, upgrading webhosting is the only way.

As inode is limited, I guess there is a need to limit number of images members can upload. Can Photoplog set image upload limit per user?

Can we use Photoplog to replace vBulletin image attachment? i.e. disable vBulletin image attachment.

@hsoen: Yes, you can set a limit on the number of uploads a person can do by setting limits on a per usergroup basis. Right now in v.2.1.6 each usergroup by default can upload 300 images with each being a max of 3MB, and you can set that to whatever you want. You can also set category permissions so if you only want your users uploading to certain categories, you can do that too. As for PhotoPlog replacing vB's image attachment system, I haven't tried that, but I suppose you could do it if you allow bbcodes, disallow attachments, but then allow gallery access. Then everyone would upload through the gallery and use bbcodes to link to images, but I'm not sure you'd want to do that as that would disallow non-image attachments.

Great! One big reason I hated to upgrade from vb 3.8 to 4.x is because we lost Photoplog. We had thousands of photos that we couldn't use. Looking forward to getting this part of our site back!

Sorry for the late reply,I myself am unable to replicate it again..Basically I believe I deleted the default categories and created a new one leaving all settings as default and then imported multiple images via ftp..

tpearl5, yes, vbgallery no longer supported & again it does not work on the new version vb4.2.1. But is not known to be supported photoplog long time.
Vbgallery & photoplog functionally almost identical.
Replaced without loss does not happen, the various links.
I would not recommend replace it to photoplog

@tpearl5: If you already use vBGallery, then you probably want to stick with it unless your gallery is small where it doesn't matter if you start new. There is no import/export script between the galleries so starting PhotoPlog means losing vBGallery content (if you uninstall it). To avoid that, you could run vBGallery and install PhotoPlog but block uploads to vBGallery so you'd only be using it to feed any images already out there. As for updating PhotoPlog to vB5, there are currently no plans to do this, as vBulletin 5 already seems to have a gallery, but who knows what vB's gallery is going to look like. Also, vBulletin 5 isn't ready for the bigger mods (as evidenced by the number of vB5 mod releases to date). It's hard to say what will happen in the future. However, right now PhotoPlog has many of the features of any of the popular galleries out there even though you may read it referenced to as a "vB hack" or something similar by at least one commercial competitor. With PhotoPlog you can set permissions based on usergroup, add a watermark to images, create custom fields, upload as a different user, among other things.

@skol: I couldn't reproduce this either, but if you or anyone else experiences it, please let me know. Thanks!!

@ikopylov: Yes, you are correct, PhotoPlog wasn't upgraded to vB 4.2.1 until just recently, and for that I'm sorry. You are also correct that vBGallery and PhotoPlog are similar. Both cannot work without vBulletin, and both also have similar features though there is no import/export script so links between the two would be broken (without htaccess redirects or running both as mentioned above). You could also use PhotoPlog's FTP import to get any images into PhotoPlog quickly, though this of course won't redirect links on its own. Other than that, I don't know much about vBGallery especially after the PhotoPost/vBAdvanced lawsuit/whatever thing happened, sorry.

In the upload file menu, there is a duplication of Title and Description. That is, both the Title box and the Description box appear twice.

@GaryT and Light Peak: PhotoPlog is phrased so just search via the ACP -> PhotoPlog -> Change Phrases -> Search in Phrases -> Search for Text -> Find -> Edit -> Save.

@angeljs: The vBA page is blank because one of the constants atop PhotoPlog's vbadvanced.php file is not defined (they all used to be defined but are no longer) so you get a blank page as PhotoPlog exits. It is a very easy fix once I know what constants are defined (and you want at least one of them there for security reasons). To let me know what constants are defined, edit PhotoPlog's vbadvanced.php file and replace it with the below, save and FTP it, go to your portal page and please let me know what you see on screen:

@hsoen: PhotoPlog is not likely to slow your server down anymore than adding or installing any other program. PhotoPlog is coded using table keys and uses slave server queries on nonessential queries (for example, an "essential" query is one used in say uploading an image, and a "nonessential" query is one used to say display information). To disable gallery and comment counts in the forum postbit, go to the ACP -> Products & Plugins -> Plugin Manager -> Edit "PhotoPlog Postbit Gallery Counts" -> set "Plugin is Active" to No -> Save. For the duplication of Title and Description, do you remember what you did right before that occurred? The solution is here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2428051&postcount=22). There are double entries in the photoplog_customfields database table for that category and one set needs to be removed. I'm not able to reproduce this though, so anything you can tell me about how it happened to you might help. Thanks!!

You need to create the navlink by yourself.

If you put the photoplog directory at the same level as your forums, and have renamed the photoplog directory name to gallery. This is just an example.)

Okay, I finally got some time to work on this again. I tried to install it again on our test site and I still get a blank page when I click the photoplog link in the navbar.

I'm not an expert at this stuff, but I have installed quite a few things so I would consider myself "pretty good" at it so I'm "pretty sure" I did everything correctly. I checked and double checked all the files to make sure they were in the right place and it all seems good.

So I attempted to go with the photoplog upgrade path. Everything seem to install properly and all the admin options are there, but nothing on the main page.

It could be that the database tables were altered sometime in the past. I don't know squat about the database and I don't mess with it so I don't know how to check that. But all the old photo folders are still there and I'd like to be able to keep them if possible so we can access them again.

I'd love to be able to get this working again because it was a great album mod.

Without knowing much about your particular install I would check the simple things first. Re-upload all files and check permissions, both file and usergroup. Make sure the files are in proper format first.

Could this possibly be a style issue?
I had one style that wouldn't show the sub links to Photoplog.
On any of my other three styles it all worked perfectly

I had it installed but it went haywire after I installed a mod and I could never get it working again. This is really a very nice add on worth the trouble of getting it going for sure. Probably my favorite product on vb.org !

Look in your Navigation Manager and copy the address Photoplog is using. If privacy is an issue just post the url after your domains portion. If privacy is NOT an issue, post the exact url shown.

I haven't had time to install this locally and tinker with it yet but safe to assume that it's either a plugin (old method but still works) making the tab appear, if so check your plugin list under the cartplog product in the plugin manager and disable the plugin making the tab more than likely titled accordingly; you can then simply make the link in the navbar yourself via the navigation manager, if your version of vBulletin does not have the navigation manager then check the plugin for: navtab_end and change to navtab_middle.

For your site to be safe. You should not use unsupported code unless you can support it yourself, or almost support it yourself. Run this software on your test board until you understand it. If your running a private board with some close friends then you probably can get away with this.

No I don't, but the funny thing is I have multiple sites on the same server and can upload this product! It's only this current install... I've tried PHP safe mode on/off and uploading from server/xml and it will not work.. :S

I think I would not be afraid to give it a try. I honestly do believe you would have no problems running this on 4.2

Issue #1. Major one. I get this error after photoplog install on 4.2.2 with vBadvanced 4.2.1

After some research narrowed it down to vBadvanced parse_templates conflict with photoplog

When the below plugin disabled everything works but vBadvanced is missing its css formatting. Everything else works just fine.

Any ideas on what could be changed to make both work with no conflict?

Issue #2. Minor one. When Search Info option activated in Photoplog Admin CP under Miscellaneous Settings, any attempt to search from the main forum search gives the below db error. (deactivated everything works)

Ok things got figured out.

One more question.

By default photoplog uses navtab plugin which is set in a specific place on the menu. I'm unable to move it due to not being in the actual navigation menu ACP place.

So I wanted to recreate the tab by using navigation manager and turning the plugin off.

I can create the menu. Any links I create do not come up.

Also the tab does not get active though this script "index" is placed in the proper field.

Any Ideas on how to move the plugin generated tab, or to make Nav Manager tab/links work?

3. additional questions

1. Ckeditor Photoplog Gallery Selector button returns page 404.

selector.php is in place and works. Selector button is not pointing to the selector. Everything else works, so I think all the paths are set correctly. Checked and triple-checked.

2. How do I add BBcode for centering items text/img?

3. Watermark does not get displayed. Have server path set to where the image is /home/yyy/public_html/yyy/image.png

No, pretty sure if you wanted that kind of implementation you would have to ask in the Paid Requests area here for a PHP coder to add it to the gallery. I'm not sure if its even possible to do code wise.

Check your upload. Those warnings indicate that your files are not where the script thinks they should be. When uploading your files upload all the directories in tact.

This is not an easy add on to install. The gentleman that released this mod installed it on my site a year ago. I have since had to un-install it because of conflicts with my main style.

On one of my styles he had to change the code and install the add on in it's own folder on the server.

That's all I can tell ya as I had nothing to do with install.

After a SiteLock scan and then contacting my host about any issues they sent the info below. Does anyone know how I go about fixing the issue? Is it an issue based upon being an "experimental script?" I searched here but can't find anything. (And is SiteLock a "reputable" scanner?)

I looked at the VBulletin 3.7 version of this and the screen shots clearly show a collapse icon on the film strip. The screenshots for this version do not show it. There must be a way to do it. I tried registered at the PhotoPlog forum to see if there was any info there but apparently they are having some issues because I get a server error when I try to register.

Hopefully somebody here can help with this.

I'm trying to get a solid background color to display behind the thumbs on Forumhome, top and bottom.

The reason being that on custom skins the main background is displaying inside the thumb borders, and on the bottom thumb display that obscures the info and data for each picture. And then of course the Forum Display pages, etc.

Okay, create a plugin hooked at "parse_templates" with the PHP code:

You can make the background darker by using a lower number for the 3 values in the rgb() function, and to make it lighter, use a higher number (up to 255, which is what it is set at by default).

That happened to me. It turned out I hadn't uploaded all the files so check that you uploaded them all and that they're in the right place. This is worth doing slowly.

I had to retrace my steps several times but it was worth it. I've got it working on 4.2.4 and am very happy, all for one little php error message I need to get rid of.
