I was wondering why you have to put liscence info in your profile to post on these forums, what if you dont own it, but do the admin work on someone elses forum (like me)? It says the liscence info is for support issuses, does not say it is needed to discuss.

exerpt:
"Please enter your customer number (if you have one). This will help us give priority support for you. If you are not a customer, we will not be able to offer you technical support."

main thing here is "if you have one" - if you dont have one then it still allows you to register on the board.

also says the customer number is for technical support, which in your case is not the forums it self, it is an email based support. If your support is email based then how does posting on the forums require you to put your customer number? The forums are for discussion, not for technical support.

Too many people pirate vB, this is the only way to cut down on it. If you are the admin for someone else, you should ask for the info or get them, the valid license holders, do get what you need from the member's area.

Support is also available on these forums, thus, you have to enter your valid info.

well they need to make the info mandatory to reg on this forum then. Otherwise they are telling ppl 2 different things. If you dont have the info and they let you register you think: "hey i get to use this great tool" , then they turn around and lock your topic saying "plz put your info in your profile." This makes ppl waste valuable time.

And the support forums should be under a usert mask and used for only those ppl who have entered the info.

Dont call this a "community" if you are going to do that, call it a "member's area"

I think you only have to enter your info if your asking for support. If your just browsing the forums you dont have to.

Im probably wrong but anyway.. :)

The license information is required for support based areas of these forums. This includes hacking or modifying vBulletin, troubleshooting, and bugs.

Suggestions, feedback, PHP, HTML and Chit Chat areas are examples where general discussion can go on without providing support to vBulletin.

what about ppl in my situatio who just help someone who does own it out? He will not give me the liscence info, due to the fact that it was a monitary investment on his part, and what if i turned against him, then he would be out support

We are working on ways so that he could designate you as an employee or associate and still remain in full control of the information.

You could have him enter the information in your profile now. The password is never saved and one the customer number would be viewable by you which by itself would not allow you to do anything drastic.

will it currently work if he puts in the info, like if he already put it in his profile will it accept it?

Is there a possibility for having two users accounts (for two administrators) with one license? :)

Currently yes, but in the future it might be limited to only 3 (i.e 3 users with the same license).

If apollyon is one of your Admins and you'd like him/her to get support in these forums, then yes.
