1.- What's this mod?
Is better to say what is NOT :). For sure is not that mod requested for years now at this thread (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=265270). But is a good Reviews system for those who want to review one type of items (eg Games, Books, Autos etc) and one group of rating questions is ok for them. With the help of extra fields and a bit works from your side to configure it, you can have a very good reviews section in your site.
Supports unlimited categories
You can set the word that will be use in the pages to identify the type of your reviews (eg Game - Games, Book - Books etc)
Supports Extra fields (but not searchable)
Supports one group of rating questions (but unlimited questions)
Supports users' reviews and overall rating
Supports Headline, review text, positive points, negative points
Supports Product photos or YouTube video if exists
Has PM templates for:
PM user when admin approves his Review
PM user when admin rejects Review
Revier can temporary hide the review and a later time he can activate it again.
There are listings for:
Category Reviews
Timeframe (What's New) Reviews
User Reviews
Search Results
In view Review page the visitor can see also:
Editor Rating
Community Rating
Lowest Rating
Highest Rating
Editor other reviews on sidebar
In all pages there are available the follow blocks having the appearance of widgets:
Category Menu
Search Form
Statistics
Top Editor Products (Games, Books, etc)
Top Community Products
New Reviews
New Community Ratings
RSS Feeds for latest 10 reviews
Facebook Like Advanced (Shows users who liked a review)
ver.1.1.0 Added a setting to allow or not Audio files (in case that you want to review music). Default is OFF. If you turn on then the users can hear the audio file with the included (simple) audio player.2.- Installation
Download and unzip the file Reviews_XXXX.zip
Upload the content of upload folder to the directory where your vB installation is. As a check: reviews.php must be on the same directoru as global.php, forum.php etc. SL Reviews are not working out of vB installation directory.
CMOD 777 the directories:
christeris/reviews/photos
christeris/reviews/photos/thumbs
christeris/reviews/photos/tmp
Goto Admincp and import product-reviews.xml. Double check before if you have another product with the same name.
Set the various settings in Reviews->General settings
Set usergroup permissions
Check and modify if you want PM templates.
Set categories
Set Extra fields (in case that you want them).
Set Rating Questions
*** ATTENTION *** Double check that rating questins are ok before starting adding reviews. After the first review you CAN'T Add/Edit/Delete questions.3.- SEO URLs
If you're using vbSeo open the file Reviews_vBSEO_Custom_Rewrite_Rules.txt and add them to your vbSeo installation.
If you're using .htaccasse file copy the contents of htaccess.txt and add it to your current .htaccess files. If you don't have such file and your server is compatible with such files, upload htaccess.txt to your vB directory and rename it to: .htaccess4.- CMS Widget / Forum Sidebar block for Latest Reviews
Pre-Installation:
Shows latest 5 Reviews. If you want to change the number to another value change at 1st line: $maxreviews = 5;
Installation as CMS Widget
Goto Admincp-> vBulletin CMS-> Widgets
Click "Create New Widget" at the list bottom
Set Widget Type: PHP Direct Execution
Give a Title which appears at the widget. eg Last Reviews, or.. Last 5 Reviews etc
Click SAVE
Find in the list the new widget and click configure at the right side
Replace the example code, with the code from Widget_Block_Latest_Reviews.txt
Click Save
Goto Layout and add it in any section you want
Click Save (Layout)
Installation as Forum sidebar Block
Goto Admincp-> Forums & Moderators -> Forum Block Manager
Click Add Block
In the next screen "Select block type: Custom HTML/PHP"
Click Continue
Title: Latest Reviews
Content Type: PHP
Content: Copy & Paste the code from Widget_Block_Latest_Reviews.txt
Click Save. The block will be now visible to your forum sidebar 5.- Copyright link
Since the time that DBTech released their Copyright Manager, I've removed my own copyrights. I found their action insulting me to maximum. Their wording "Site is powered by vBulletin AddOns and Modules by Dragonbyte Tech" (and not "Some parts of this site"), means that everything there is their own work, ignoring on the worst way the fact that there are 100's of other coders and designers who are supporting this community for years. So, I'm letting the glory to them. No copyrights from my side.
Enjoy it

So I gave it a test drive (posted a half assed BF2 review) and like the user interface. It's not complicated and each option is explained well enough.
Now I'll have to download it and fiddle around on the admin side on my test site :D

If your members actually play you can use it for soccer equipment. I've been out of the game for too long to be current on brands, but I know there are a few that make soccer balls, not to mention the various uniform manufactures ;)
Or you could have it set to review actual soccer teams in different leagues, that might be interesting actually :D

Maybe you didn't god the meaning. The positive/negative of the top post are those found by the Editor. The other posts below are from community members where everyone can finds different positive/negative points. That's the beauty of the review. Everybody writes his own experiance. In no way means that every positive/negative point of user postings will be add at the Editor's main review.

The screen is messed because you had those warnings before, so it's not an issue. As for the warning I can't say anything as I never got such errors. Let's wait to see if someone else will reports something similar, even if my advice is to uninstall it and start with a fresh installation.
How many addons are you using in your site?

I never used localhost in my life even when the internet was very expensive here. I'm always working online so I don't know if this causes any problem or not.
As for the browse I don't think that you're right as I've read that vB editor has some problems with IE10. Even if it works in your forums, vbEditor acts very strange when works out of vbengine (I'm not using the forum engine in my mods).
But as I read before someone else is using this mod with 4.2.1 without problem.

I need to edit some of the review fields :
Publisher Field I would like to change to "Venue"
and alter the description to "Enter ground played at".
"Item URL" I need to delete completely as this is irrelevant for my use
And I realise that English isn't your first language but this :
Help users who are searching reviews to locate easier your post by entering important keywords here. Seperate them by comma, no spaces
to something like :
Assist users to find reviews by entering keyword here, separate each word with a comma.

eg mp3, mp4 or what?? Please give me only such file type where their filesize will not be so big to timeout the upload procedure.

Reviews 1.1.0 has released with a new feature and one bug fix:
New feature: Someone of you (sorry as I don't remember his name) asked if its possible to upload audio files. Then I thought that maybe some users maybe will want to use it for reviewing Music. That's why I added an extra setting (default is OFF), which (if you turn it ON) will shows in posting review page a field for uploading a .mp3 audio file. I also included a simple audio player in view review page. At least, I like it, as I don't know a lot about such things. A demo review with audio player is at: http://www.christeris.net/dev42/review/4/my-number-one.html (http://www.christeris.net/dev42/review/4/my-number-one.html)
Bug fix: Strange that nobody reported it, but I fount that "My Reviews" list was showing only the last review. In anycase now is fixed.
To upgared:
Download Reviews_1_1_0.zip
Upload all files at your server overwriting the old ones
CMOD 777 a new directory at: christeris/reviews/audio
Import product-reviews.xml (don't forget to check overwrite).
If you want to activate audio uploads goto Reviews General Settings and turn it on. Audio types setting is currently just for refference. Upload works with mp3 and mp4 (really don't know if mp4 is audio file).

Oh.. Finally a review mod that might make my life easier! And here I've been creating a a semi usable one using the Easy Forms Mod.. Giving this a run on my test then probably to my live site! WOOT!
*EDIT* Looks good.. However.. One thing that wish would be added is since the Author first reviewing sets up questions to be reviewed, why can't those that are rating this also answer those to get a true reading?
Like I'm doing a site for Bars to be reviewed. I have Ambiance, Food, Service and Value. I put in my author rating for those but when someone comes to the site they only get one "overall" rating. Anyway to have them also rate all of them like the author does?
*2ND EDIT* Adding this to my site as we speak any chance of possibly getting a spot for people to add more photos too? I know the author can do it by putting photos in the edit box but if there was like a box set off to the side or something to add extra photos would be great..
Awesome work

As I said, I decided to my new mod series to have simplicity as first rule. What you asked for, it was something that already existed in my (unfinished) Reviews mod and I remove it. Have seen many review sites and I believe that this is the right direction. The author rates many things, but users are giving an overall rating. This gives:
1.- More value to main review
2.- Unless if all your members are guru, is much easier for the average user to rate for overall. Don't forget that one of the points that Facebook became so popular is simplicity: Like / Dislike (even if it does not has such button). This is what the user will say: "This product is excellent".... or "This product is just acceptable".
Like I'm doing a site for Bars to be reviewed. I have Ambiance, Food, Service and Value. I put in my author rating for those but when someone comes to the site they only get one "overall" rating. Anyway to have them also rate all of them like the author does?
As of me (and this is just my opinion and how I act in real life, especially for bar), what I've to say it "I'll go again"...or ..."I'll never come back".... Because there is always a chance to say "Food: Terrible ... Service: Terrible... Prices: The highest on the city"... This will gives an overall rating of 2 which means "I'll never come back". But because I liked the barwoman I'll be there on daily basis :D. In a short.... Lots of questions never bring up the right rating....
*2ND EDIT* Adding this to my site as we speak any chance of possibly getting a spot for people to add more photos too? I know the author can do it by putting photos in the edit box but if there was like a box set off to the side or something to add extra photos would be great..

Fair points.. Makes sense.. And they can add their positives and negatives at the bottom so in theory that'll work.
I only thought it might be wise to have them also use those questions as I'm no guru on bars and people's likes and dislikes are all different. But I am the owner of the site so the people can either like what I say or don't. Works for me lol I wanted something local for people to come to and see instead of the big name sites that do it for every city and don't really give a true meaning to a place.
Thanks for giving me a different perspective on the rating.. I'll be using this and can't wait for the upgrade of things to come!

Chris is it possible to make the extra items field to use bbcode. I love how I can have one audio file, but we review a lot of mixtapes, and I would like to allow people to preview the whole mixtape without providing a download of that mixtape.

Only when I'll extend the extra field types. I've in my todo to add the follow types:
1.- HTML editor
2.- BB code
3.- Date
4.- Number
5.- Multiselect list
6.- YouTUBE video
7.- Audio upload
8- URL
9.- Upload image
10.- Upload file
but don't expect them before the end of the next month, and to be honest, I'm not sure if I'll release them in public. I need them for my own use. Also don't forget what I wrote in the main post. My mods are for general use with the basic needing features. The time that I was releasing mods with more features than the standalone PHP script has ended for ever.

Seem to be running into a slight problem. Have given people the proper usergroup settings however after they rate one thing it doesn't seem to allow them to rate another thing.
*EDIT* I logged on using demouser3 on your site to rate something on there and each time I'd go into rate no button would show up but it'd say I had rated 9 already in the grey "Your Rating:" box. I had checked and it follows whatever you last rated something so it doesn't separate what you rate on each item.
Cause I went into edit the rating I had of 9 on the Call of Duty and changed it to 10 and it now says "Your Rating: 10" for everything even tho never rated and it doesn't show any rating for the other items..
*2nd EDIT* I deleted the review causing the Call of Duty to show 0 for community after I did that. Then I reviewed it again since it allowed me with demouser3 and now it shows a weird rating of 3.3 even tho 2 ratings are 7 and mine was 10. As you can see by the picture below logged in but can't rate on this even tho its not been rated by this person.

Wello, it's impossible to ready your message in my 1024x768 screen resolution, due to wide inline attachment. A general meaning that I got is that you can't rate again. This is true. A user can post only one rating per review. But he can edit it from "My Ratings".

Hey Chris!! So happy to see you doing more Vb mods!! i love your work and will be sending a donation when I can.
I have a question about Vbseo.. I believe we add the rewrites to Vbseo so there is no need to add anything to the htaccess if using Vbseo? is this correct?
I am looking forward to trying the classifieds mod as well!! This one I have installed and am testing currently but so far it is amazing. I am almost certain I will be nominating at least one of these for motm!
Thanks,

No need to worry... That's nothing comparing with what I faced when I was developind the mod. I had placed 2 ratings 7 + 8 to see if it will shows ok decimals (7.5). But I was showing 8... I wasted hours trying to figure out why it rounds the number till to realize that someone who was in my site checking another mod, he rated it with 9... So 8 was correct :( Hours for nothing,,,

If you go to your Call of Duty Review http://www.christeris.net/dev42/review/1/call-of-duty.html, you will see that the 3 users have voted a 8, 7 and a 7 the last I checked. Although the rating now says a -.07 for Community Rating due to the fact I had deleted demouser3's rating and rerated and I also changed demouser1 down to an 8 from a previous 10 that I had posted a page back.

You can do some of that in the files. I had added 0 for Not Rated Yet on my test forum seemed to work fine and not cause problems so adding more or taking away a few wouldn't be to much different. Just would have to add or take away some of the phrases this uses..

Adimincp-> Styles & Templates-> Select "Edit Templates" on the right of your style.
The find CSS templates and edit: reviews.css
Yes thanks I found that and modified a few things..I'm just stuck with trying to figure out how to change the link colour for the heading without changing everything globally..

No ideas when it comes to deal with vb editor. Just try to set "Enchanged editor for users".
Sorry, I don't understand what this is - "Enchanged editor for users".
****Edit****
Upon re-reading I realized you were referring to the Enhanced and Standard editor. This is in fact the issue. If standard editor is being used there is a formatting issue.

Is it possible for the admin to create a new listing(review) with no rating, but then forum members give all the ratings?
Or the reverse, can regular members (usergroup permissions) have permission to create a new listing (review)?

No. Admin (you can also call him Editor... or Author) must post a rating with his review.
Or the reverse, can regular members (usergroup permissions) have permission to create a new listing (review)?
Thanks
Yes... Usergroup permissions are post and rate for it. Post means the main review (with rating), rate means the user rating below.

Ideas for a future version:
- Have the possibility to have a review's preview before submit.
- Have the possibility to configure the rank by 5, 10 or 20), to have note on 5, 10 or 20 points.
- Have the possibility to put image into the text of the review.
- Change the image "write a review" by a text (easier to translate ^^)
- Have the possibility to have different review categories, so different ranking.
For example a categorie videogame, so rank bu graphism, gameplay, sound..;
And a categorie Film, so rank by dialog, history...

2.- What are SlimLine AddOns?
As the name points, they're ...slim. No big addons with dozens of unwanted features. They'll have all the basics features (none missing), but nothing more. I'll code all of them based on my own use only. Sorry for it, but finally all of them will be totally free. Download and check them, and if you find them usefull, the use them. Otherwise, look for something better.

Is it possible to have a save as draft feature? People may not be ready to sit there and type a whole review in one go. I know there are other options like type it up in notepad then copy paste when it's complete, but it would be better if there was a save as draft option.

Then disable the Reviews Widget and/or Reviews Forum sidebar block. Only at that point there is this code. But again it's how the template treats the code. Has nothing to do with what they said there. In programming (if its coding error) it appears always and not sometimes appears and sometimes not. To appear sometimes and sometimes not has to do with the template or special code.
In final word.... does it appears with the your default template (even ...sometimes)?

If it appears even in your default template, then is better to keep my mouth close, and not because I admit that there is something wrong in my code.
In anycase, as I don't like to let you in the middle of the way, you can use the follow procedure to have the the widget/block appearing in your site:
1.- At Admincp-> Styles & Templates-> Style Manager-> Edit Templates-> CSS Templates add to additional.css
.minigraph {
float:{vb:stylevar left};
background-color:#cecece;
border: 1px solid #003366;
position:relative;
width:70px;
padding:0
}
.minigraph .minibar {
display:block;
position:relative;
background-image:url(christeris/reviews/images/bargraph.gif);
background-position:{vb:stylevar left} center;
background-repeat:repeat-x;
border-{vb:stylevar right}:1px solid #003366;
text-align:center;
color:#fff;
height:14px;
font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size:8pt;
line-height:1.4em
}
.minigraph .minibar span {
position:absolute;
{vb:stylevar left}:1em
}
2.- Forget the code that exists in Widget_Block_Latest_Reviews.txt and use the code:
$maxreviews = 5;
global $db, $vbulletin, $vbphrase, $vboptions;
ob_start();
$qry = $vbulletin->db->query_read("SELECT * FROM ".TABLE_PREFIX."reviews_reviews WHERE active=1 AND status=1 AND logo<>'' ORDER BY postdate DESC LIMIT $maxreviews");
while ($row = $db->fetch_array($qry)) {
$thisreviewid = $row["id"];
$thisreviewtitle = htmlspecialchars_uni($row["title"]);
$thisreviewlink = 'reviews.php?do=viewreview&reviewid='.$row["id"].'';
$thisreviewlogo = 'christeris/reviews/photos/thumbs/'.$row["logo"].'';
$thisreviewbarwidth = intval($row["adminrating"] * 10);
$thisreviewrating = intval($row["adminrating"]);
$thisreviewratingtitle = $vbphrase["reviews_rating_".$thisreviewrating.""];
$html .= '<div class="cms_widget_post_bit widget_post_bit">

Hello,
I want to ask those who have installed SL Reviews, if a modification which most probably will makes the new version incompatible with the previous one, will causes them problems. What I'm trying to say is "Are you using it in a live site?".
What I want to change is the way that rating questions are currently working. As you know, in the current version the Administrator setup the questions which are global for all reviews. Now it came in my mind to move it to the Reviewer. Independed of category the Reviewer will be able to set his own rating questions.
Example: I'm posting a Review for a game and I want to add only: Sound quality, Playbility and Value for money as rating questions, while you, posting a similar review you want to add much more questions.
Please note that the average rating will remains the same as the calculation is the same (Total points / Total questions).
I believe that this way you'll have the freedom to use different types of reviews with the same installation.
I'll appreciate if you click "Like" to this post as a way to determine how many you agree with this plan.

Goog idea Chris, but the admin can have the possibility to activate or not this feature.
It will be nice if the admin can purpose some questions for specific review.
For example, a review for a game, the reviewer have quetion like: sound, graphics..
If it's a film's review, it wmust be : graphics, history...
You know what I mean?

Yes, I got your meaning but unfortunatelly is something that can't be done. It's different database structure between these 2 options. That's why I said that will not be compatible with the earlier version.

Hi Christos, Just installed this on my site and did a test post. I'm looking to use it for cruise ship reviews. Some of what I see in this mod and others is alittle too complicated for my needs. For example, I don't need a Editors Review for each ship.. so I guess I would need a more slimmed down version.
I like what you have in place for the categories and use of the CMS, user panel. I just would want a more simple version. I'll give you a brief overview of how I would like to use your software.
1. Users goes to Cruise Reviews section.
2. User Wants to Post a Review.
3. User Selects from parent category (Cruise Lines). Then picks ship to review.
(ie. Carnival Cruise Lines, Carnival Breeze. The review would actually be written on the Carnival Breeze. The present options make this alittle bulky.
This same format could be used for other products, restaurants, hotels, etc.
For example. Parent category> Restaurants>Country>State>City>Restaurant Name. or even
Hotels>Country>State>City>Hotel Name. My point is the admin would set that the items in the last category are the items to be reviewed.
4. I don't need editorial reviews at the top, as I want USER reviews from the community. If I had a heading it could include a photo of the ship, company logo, ship history text, etc. However, with 100's of ships an editorial heading is not ideal. I also this a more basicly (non editorial heading).. just a product head,custom questions, basic 1-10 star rating, and CMS article like narative where the user can add images, stylized text, embed YouTube videos would be wonderful and flexible.
5. I could use the PRO's / CON's section.. and maybe some fixed questions as your proposing but as options.
6. A rating 1-10 stars or other system would be nice as you have already for each user review.. so then someone looking reviews for Carnival Breeze.. can see that out of 100 reviews.. the community has given this ship 8 out of 10 stars, etc.
This is just my five cents. Its not far from what I would love to see.

I'd love to see an "Administrator" option to create products with the information, but not need to actually input a 1-10 review.
For example I'd be able to create the name, keywords, a link to the manufacturer site, image, use the review box to put in information about the product (like the official what it has, cost, etc), and the production year. Then submit it, and my users sub-reviews can create the actual star rating.
This would be good for things like store/site reviews of things that aren't 100% products or if we want to remain "out of the game".

There is a global misunderstanding on Reviews scripts, and I can admit that it gots me long time (actually years) to understand how these scripts are working. Well when I was talking for reviews, I had in mind exactly what you wrote. Admin posts something (eg an article) and users rate/review it.
Unfortunatelly what I was (and you ... and many others) thinking about reviews are not reviews script. Are rating scripts. The normal Reviews scripts (just like this) are scripts where the author has reviewed something and posts his final review for reading (mostly) and rating by the users.
A good example to understand it, is the reviews that most magazines are posting. eg Let's say a Mobile phones magazine posts some reviews for the new models. The author checks the new model and then he post the reviews. Users are reading the review and usally they post replies with their opinions, or adding a global rating.
What you asked for are Rating scripts, which are most common (in my opinion). eg You want to operate a Hotels directory and you're posting some dozens of Hotels (in most cases you never seen them), expecting that users who know these hotels will post reviews.
Am I right? Pitty, but this mod has been developed scoping the first way. Even if can be modified to work like you want, I don't suggest it, as most probably will be a waste of time.

1.- vB Editor does not supports attachments when it is using outside of forum engine. You can upload photo and audion only by using the seperate upload fields. Soon I'll release an update for permitting more uploads.
2.- As I know the code that exists there for creating CMS widgets and/or Forum sidebar blocks, can be used with no change for vBa.

To get this type of URL means that you've set ON the SEO Urls. But have you updated your .htaccss file with the content of htaccess.txt from the distribution file?
If yes, then the next step is to check if you have change in settings the word "review". If yes have you updated the .htaccess file with exactly the same name?

For "In" (using vBEditor) is not my fault as this editor does not works smoothly out of forum engine (thread style). Also, nobody gives support for such topics. If you look around you'll see many articles where coders are trying on their own to do it working. If you give a look to one of my other mods Extra Pages (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=297398&highlight=pages) where I'm using my own HTML editor, you'll find out that not only you can add unlimited photos (and other media) in the article body, but more the thumbs (in the article) are clickable and shown the full photo in popup.
As for "Around", most probably this will be done during weekend.

Have you activated SEO Urls? If yes, have you added the text that exists at my htaccess.txt file to your .htaccess ?
Also, in case that you've changed the SEO words in Reviews-> General Settings, have you also changed these words to htaccess file?
If none of them helps, then post your actual URL to give an eye there.

Hi, I have a question about "Rating Questions"
Is there a way I can edit the options to add a "Not Applicable" and even have that question not listed in the review?
I want to add several categories where rating questions do not necessarily apply to both categories, eg: Gaming and Movies - where the questions pertained to gaming do not necessarily apply to Movies.
ie. you've got Rating from 10 - 1 : is it possible to add a 0-Not Applicable that then does not display the question/rating?
Many thanks

I like it, however I am having one issue that I can't solve. When going to reviews main page and an actual review my header logo moves quite a bit toward the right almost making it to the center of the screen.
I am currently using a fixed doc_width of 1300px. I tried switching to a fluid style and does the same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Edit: Never mind, found a fix. Changed some widths and fixed the issue.

Hi. I love this mod. I have my reviews here:
http://www.playadictos.net/reviews.php
Two things:
FIRST: Can I display subcategories in the menu on the left?
SECOND: I can't edit other's reviews... is that possible (for fixing mistakes)?
