View Full Version : Shout out to Hippy!

I'd like to dedicate this shout-out to Hippy, who, out of pure selflessness, has added the like/dislike hack to my site for me, as I don't have the required awesomeness.

It's certainly uplifting to receive generosity like this from someone who gains no merit from it except thanks and appreciation.

Thanks so much, Hippy, you rock!

My forum is all the better for your selfless effort and I appreciate it very much.

Cheers and props!

Yes I agree shout out to Hippy...

--------------- Added 1360040595 at 1360040595 ---------------

I have to say, that if not for this Nut..lol
My site would be pretty grim...lol
He is a great friend and Coder...
If you can deal with his personality...hehehehehehe But hey look at my personality....
Two peas in a Pod except that pea knows his shit....

He is like a Forum God and again has helped me to no end !!!
I can not say enough to get this point across...

If You really need a friend who selfishly commits the amount of knowledge he has to your site as though it was his own then you have something knowing him as I do...

He is solely responsible for helping and design of the graphics of my site...
He is also responsible for some of the mods, that run on my site...
When I see that others are even asking if it is possible...

I have known other coders that have offered him Jobs and he tells them No..for what reasons I do not know except his absolute love for the challenge and the rebellion to be in it for solely a Pay check...
That in itself speaks Volumes

He would rather have someone that actually Genuinely appreciates the help he provides...
(I think he gets a Big laugh at watching me attempt to figure out in hours/Days what this ass can do in minutes...)
Maybe that's it is he is Laughing at me....lol

--------------- Added 1360041844 at 1360041844 ---------------

I can not begin to list the amount of time and issues he has helped me with or simply fixed knowing it was not slicked and working as designed, even then he has improved some designs...
What else can I say...????

--------------- Added 1360042975 at 1360042975 ---------------

Actually I can say some more...

I was having a lot of issues with my site and also related to being away from Vbull for years...
I would not say that, I was ever that great at anything to begin with ..
Just a stumbling Hack at it...at Best

He saw me, somehow, asking for help and attempting to get some answers...

What does he do?
Sends me a PM asking for the complete set of keys to my site...

FTP access and control to Cpanel, Admin Log in, to my site.
Passwords, everything you go through when you set up the server and the forum software and then run it...

I read a couple post from here and remembered seeing him here quite often, I said.
Sure why not...
It was not like I really had that much to loose then...
My site was Brand New and just getting set up.

He went to my site and worked for hours on end....
Listening to my Bibble, Babble, all the way constantly, asking for more and more help and explanations...

While talking with him, I have heard his wife, in the background
(not complaining But saying things like, Hey we need to get ready to leave)

I have heard his Kids ask for a band Aid, to be put on while,
He has the phone attached to the side of his head, as he is working on a car or something else...

I have heard him say, I have to take my little girl to do cheer leading...
While discussing Image and graphics problems, as well as added mod issues...
Stating he would work on it from his car while he was waiting for his little Girl...

That is simply either crazy or an obsession..
I will gladly accept the rate at which, he would be willing to help which would be far below...
His current level of assistance.

I personally do not know how he can do it...To say a Multi-Tasker is a gross Understatement...
I am privileged to know him and have any help from him at all...

Ok I think that is about half of what I could say. Maybe...

...required awesomeness...
...Forum God...

I hear he can leap tall buildings, and water towers, in a single bound, too!

This guy can fix anything. He should have a paypal link in his sig.

I have to agree with all that has been said here.

I posted asking for help with my arcade. Next thing I know... I get a PM from hippy asking for the keys to everything. I hesitated for about half a second, then sent it all to him. :)

Next thing I know, my arcade is not only fixed, but mods added and the software upgraded! Then he added a ton of new games for me! He went on to upgrade my VB software and did a ton of general troubleshooting and fixing.

There have also been incidents of him rescuing me from forum disaster! (I fear he might change his email addy to avoid my panic ridden emails! ;)

I'm not sure if hes laughing at me or just shaking his head when I contact him. ( I deserve both!) Either way, hes been amazing!

Calling him awesome and a forum God is a good start! Hes also selfless, oh so smart and an all around nice guy.

Hes my forum hero! :D

Hippy, thank you so much for all you do! :)

Well Once...
Thats Kinda the point he does not ask for money...
If you really appreciate him you can always donate...
All you need is an e mail addy...

--------------- Added 1360115706 at 1360115706 ---------------

I have a really Dumb question...
How come if V Bulletin is always citing that there are security risk involved if you do not upgrade and update with each Revision...
They are running 3.6.12 Why not 4.20 Patch 3 ???
And they sell the software...

And Geez People how about some Skin options What only Plaid colors to pick from...yech...5 colors and none are dark...

i for one say 100% to everything said above.. Mr Hippy not only out here helping in forums but like posted above helps us all with our sites.. Hippy has full run of my site.. even when he was busy with work he seems to always find time to stop in to my site and cheek if we need anything and or up grade stuff.
and like post above he worked my arcade. casino. upgrades to VB worked my skins and the list just keeps going.. NOT ONE TIME ever ask for anything. i to send him $$ when i can and many times he says to me bro you dont have to do that..
but i do to try and show just how much we like what he dose for us.. all i can say is i hope he sticks around here helping out as well as a BIG part of my site with his help...
There have also been incidents of him rescuing me from forum disaster! (I fear he might change his email addy to avoid my panic ridden emails!

I could go on a lengthy LENGTHY rant about how much he has helped me. But I'll keep it brief. :)

He's the freakin' man. He really knows his chit extremely well. I was at a stand still trying to get my site up and going, about to pay a "vbulletin company" big bucks to set my site up for me. I came across this site and asked a basic question, something simple that I was confused with. He clearly saw I was a n00b and he dug a bit deeper and found how lost I was. The dude has helped me so much, I can't even describe where I'd be without his help.

My hat is off to ya man - people like us need you....!!!

vBulletin need to put this legend on the payroll, seriously.
I cant agree more to that statement. There are zero help from vbulletin.com, most times questions aren't even answered and when they do decide to say something they speak in a language that few can understand. If it wasn't for Hippy vb would have much less customers and the once that staid would be very unhappy. He is just the best!

Hey Wild Heart I speak V bulletin Language check it out...
Not only do they not upgrade their own forum...
Offer no colors...
I am going blind with all the lame pastel colors and brightness, sometimes after reading for hours on end I need a bit darker board...always have and always will...
Here is a sample of a classic V Bulletin response.

The issue is not in V bulletin software...
It was the install process or the server or the end user or the administrator...or your Browser...
Anything but V Bulletin...
We can not offer support outside of the software...

If I go buy a car from Chevy, even though they know, I drive on Public Roads and use a windshield from a different manufacturer...

They will try to fix the alignment of the vehicle, not tell me well you are driving on a crooked road...

If the glass keeps cracking for some weird reason...
They look at the alignment of the window frame, they do not tell me to go to the glass manufacturer to get it fixed...

I was having a very difficult time with my Norton Vault when only using win 8... ran fine on 7 and also using same browser,

The problem was I could not add a new user or modify the users account in any way, it would pop up so fast, I could see my admin name in the user name field, then it would reload and tell me I could not modify that account it was protected..>Well no shit...
I bought the software and could not add or modify users... instead of saying we will look into it,
I had no less than 5-7 responses stating it was outside of Vbulletin software...Ok so you know it is not a core issue, so find the answer...
That is what we all paid for...Continued Support not just Flat Code...

From my stand point, when I pay someone for a service and software, like my server Host,
(HOST ROCKET the Best support I have ever found for Server in 13 yrs)
If I have troubles, where everyone points a finger at the other person, and I can not get help, they help. and since it was inside of V bulletin Admin Panel...
They should have considered it an issue just to help their end users...
If nothing else...
Nope...

Hippy has been and still is a great coder...and trouble shooting is his middle name...

Hippy Trouble Shooter Coder the Man...see...

Without his help my site would be even more of a joke than it is currently...

--------------- Added 1360363296 at 1360363296 ---------------

Hippy always tells me to promote my site, since I have a whooping 35 members 28 I created..lol
I tell him no...
I could use the help to get some content, and post from users...
But I am not done setting up the basics yet still way to much to do...

Hippy Just called, he was just in a car wreck on the thruway...almost got taken out by speeding driver in rainy and icy roads...
No I was not on the phone with im when he wrecked...

He is fine just has to get car fixed and rig a headlight...

I am now going to say..

.Sure I donate to him for his help...

However he told me more than once that is not why he does it but he did appreciate it...

I can tell you this, I just sent him money to help him get by until his car gets fixed...

That is a friend helping a friend, I may not be able to smooth codes and read Hieroglyphics hell I had to look that word up....

But he does what he is good at and I can look stupid and help put his kids through college..lol
Just kidding I make decent change and for the amount of time he saves me I think I give 1/4th of that back to him in cash...prorated of course...:p

Hippy helped me out massively on our forums.
He gladly asked for an admin account, and happily signed in and took time out of HIS OWN FREE TIME to fix a MASSIVE problem on my site.

If it was not for Hippy who helped me right away without asking for a SINGLE thing besides an account a big section of our forums would have been redundant.

I totally agree that HIPPY needs to be taken on as a member of staff for VB!!

I feel personally very guilty - I promised to buy the man a beer, or donate and I forgot.
I will donate HIPPY when you see this! I promise :p

So yes get HIPPY on your books VB - he's an asset who NEEDS to be on board, definitely.

Thank you SO VERY MUCH FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO IN THIS COMMUNITY HIPPY !!!

Kinda late in posting...but a while back HIPPY definately helped me out extensively. Got the arcade working on my forum and showed me how to add new games ect. Definately went above and beyond and at the time was a real saver for me as I had no idea how to approach this problem I was having to fix it. He did what was necessary walking me through it and at one point just started coding the files and sending them fixed to me to upload.

Awesome dude! Cant say enough good things about him honestly.

I sent him a site T-Shirt or a few and some decals that we had as a token of thanks for all he did. Was a real life saver for me! Highest recommends!
