Hi
I am running vBulletin 4.1.12 Patch Level 3
I am sure the issue is with a server move (my hosting company migrated / upgraded servers), and that I need to ask my hosting company to turn some feature(s) on, but I do not know what / which!
Problem One
OK, no matter what browser I use, when I try to edit a message, the text area is blank, both in quick and full edit. Everything else seems to be OK.
Problem Two
Whenever anyone uploads images, no thumb nails appear, not in the image upload manager area (just generic "?" images appear), or in the posts themselves (before we got thumb nails, now we get "img1001" etc. href links to images)
Can anyone help? What tap do I need to get my hosting company to turn on?

What version of PHP is on the server and what version of PCRE? If it is PCRE version 8.21, there is a bug.. You will need to contact your host and have them downgrade to PCRE version 8.20 or upgrade to a later version.
Regarding the thumbnails... instead of seeing the thumbnail, you are getting a link? Check usergroup permissions and make sure they have permissions to view thumbnails.
edit: For some reason, I can't post the link to the bug. Remove spaces - bugs.exim.org/ show_bug.cgi? id=1187

Hi Lynne
Thanks
It is PHP 5.4.8, I will have to ask them about PCRE.
Yes, Can See Thumbnails = Yes
But all I get are a href links to the images.
I have attached images of the image upload and message body showing the problem.

For the thumbnails, what do you have set in AdminCP > Settings > Options > Image Settings > Image Processing Library ?
And, what are the results of Maintenance > Diagnostics > Upload ?

Maintenance > Diagnostics > Upload =

open_basedir: None

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't have thumbnails or that your posts are blank.
Have you tried:
- reuploading all default files?
- rerunning the upgrade.php script?
- trying with a default style?
- trying with no modifications?

Hi Lynne
It seems php 5.4.8 is the problem, as my hosting company have now put me on PHP 5.2.17 and they say the problem is solved (I have yet to confirm this).

Hi Lynne
Yes, everything is now as it should be. So php 5.4.8 is a problem for vB. I think this should be a general wide announcement and perhaps get the developers on to 5.4.8 ?

There is a thread over on vbulletin.com about PHP5.4 and problems with vB4.2.0. Not everybody has the problem, but I believe there are some fixes posted in the thread.

I had this EXACT same problem with editing and thumbnails. Reverting to PHP 5.3 fixed both of them.
