That is nothing new. It is common knowledge that recaptcha has been cracked by bots and therefore it is rendered useless. Q&A challenge is the best option under the circumstances. It won''t help with the human spammer but still provides some security for the automated bots.

I disabled CAPTCHA a long time ago. It's just an annoying step for the user that the spam bots get through handily. However, I'm using verification images I've chose myself. No "what's 2+5" questions that bot programs can cross reference and store answers to. I ask to identify items in the picture. Works reasonably well, unless someone decides to refresh the page at my sites and log every answer...for all 200+ of them.
