Hi there. I'm admin of a forum in N Ireland and were are looking to
move to a much more pro system. VBulletin looks to be the one we wish to
purchase but we would only do so if our history on our current forum
can be moved to V4/5 without the loss of any topics/post and member
lists??
We are currently using Dragonfly 9.3.4.0 CVS
Is setting up and importing to Vbulletin a relatively painless task as none of us are too hot on computers??
Would there be anyway at all to test before we buy the licence even by another party as we really can't afford to lose the history of our club.
Is there anyone that could quickly test it for us?? If not do you know of anyone we could approach to find out as we'd like to proceed ASAP.

Many Thanks

Gavin

Except if you purchase vB5, you are free to download vB4 (or any previously released version) to use instead of vB5, so I'm not sure what you are saying here.

I am talking about with vb5 support tickets are limited with vb4 it is forever and from what I have seen of vb5. vb4 is better one of the reasons why not many buy vb5

This link does nothing but take me to google.

The VB developers have said that only DF 9.2.1 can be sucessfully transfered hence my asking on here for a test.

Is there any sites that have the VB5 ios/andriod app equipped as the only ones I can find require that tapetalk which costs ?2 for each user and we don't want are users to be out financially to view our forum.

vB5 doesn't have an iPhone or Android mobile app available yet. However, please note that the style is a "responsive" style and so it should look fine on your iPhone/Android.

Usually there isn't a lot of database change between a couple minor versions like 9.2 and 9.3.

Is there any example anyone knows I that I could show the rest of my admin group as they've started making noises about ipBoards with there phone apps.

I'd recommend setting up the temp demo board on the vB website, then once your setup, load that page in your mobile browser. If it's responsive, then you'll have no need for an app really. And on iPhone, you can pretty much launch any website as a web app if configured properly. (Even Android supports shortcuts, if set from the default browser. Don't know about newer versions of Android, though. Mine's older.)

Excuse my ignorance but what way should it be set up?? I don't mean an app as such. Take for instance the ipBoards forum that I'm a member of. If I open on my pc I get the desktop version if I open in safari I get the mobile version of the same forum launched automatically with whatever is inbuilt to the ipBoards software.

Using Safari gives you the mobile version?

Anyway, vB4 had a mobile version available and you may set it up so that users using a mobile device will automatically view the site using the mobile style. You may test/see it on vbulletin.com/forums

vB5 uses a responsive style which will be good for browsers and mobile devices. You may test/see it on http://www.vbulletin.com/vb5demo/

Given your situation you will probably need help. If your forum is large you want to make sure all inbound referral traffic is redirected properly.

Example:

www.yoursite.com/dragonflythread1234

Needs to be redirected to;

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=1234

Otherwise you will lose all referral traffic. This shouldn't even an issue if you don't mind losing the traffic.

VB in itself is pretty easy to set up and importing other boards is relatively straightforward too.
