This looks great! I have installed it, but I'm getting a no permission error when I try to view the map; as far as I can see the usergroup permissions (for Admins) are all set to yes.

Hello, I'm having a problem viewing the map. I have all my users, including admin set to be able to view the map but I keep getting the "you don't have permission" page and cannnot view the map under registered user accounts as well as admin. I'm running the latest version of VB4. Are there perhaps some settings I'm missing?

the information of a user is difficult to read because the background is white and the writing!, how can I change this?

Hmm. Thanks; that certainly worked. However it does seem a bit counter-intuitive that I can only see the map if I'm excluded from it.
It's is pretty cool. I'm hoping a more fully-featured pay version will be appearing, because the binary option of showing all 130,000 members (whole thing crashes and it's only added as far as 2002 so far...) or users currently online is a little limited. I'm imagining that could be gotten around by, say, having options to show only those within a certain distance or something. It may be that that's beyond the scope of the mod writer's intentions, though - I can see it making for a fantastic member meetup tool.
I don't want to sound like I'm whining, though. It's a very nice little mod, and it's free. Thanks to the developer!

As I said earlier this did work but as a result it won't place anyone in the admin group. So I have a few questions just in case there is a work-around for that.
Is there a way to get admins in or is there a way to add pins manually?
Also I've got members from Florida who are showing up in California on the map. Anything I can do about that?

I have someone from NY showing up in Iraq!
With something like this, it's pretty much limited to what the IP address tells it. IP addresses don't always match the user, especially corporate ones; though they usually do.

This is a good suggestion and a way to work around the IP addresses that are displaying incorrectly.
Admin options
1) Use a profile field as primary source: yes/no
2) What profile field to use?
Then default back to IP address if field is null.
Place a note at the bottom of the map that says something like "If your location is displaying incorrectly please update your profile with your correct location."

Fixes the map loading for guests, and adds the usergroup ability to allow users to optout or manually set their pin's location by dragging it around, updated with ajax.

As long as can access it set to yes, should work. Being excluded only affects the appearance of your pins. I tested this on 4.2 and it works as described; does it not for you?

You might be able to affect some of the maps styling with CSS
It dosnt seem to be showing all users for me aswell....
Your members' locations need to be resolved with your scheduled task, which will depend on how many members you have and how many users you have it set to process. It runs every 10 minutes by default.
Interested in how you are doing GeoIP... no maxmind?
It tries to use http://php.net/manual/en/book.geoip.php if it is installed on your server (which is powered by maxmind)
Otherwise this nice webservice I use hostip.info but that might be less accurate.
If other people have various ideas on determining location automatically (or have other IP resolving services) I will see what I can integrate.

Major problems. When it's on we loose our privet messaging system, and our visitor messages in the profile pages.
When it is working.
Only about 160 of some of the 600+ members are showing up. All the permissions are set to show up on all user groups. The config is set to show ALL members not just active ones. So how do we get them all to show up?
Also is there some way for admins to edit the member locations?

Have either of your installed other addons at the same time as member map? I havent been able to reproduce these errors - and none of the member map code runs during those other pages regardless.
Your members' locations need to load via the scheduled task which runs every 10 mins and processes the amount of users you specify in your settings. Furthermore, not all of your members may have posted which would record their IP address in the system, or their IP address may not have been able to be resolved.
Admins can edit users specifically, but you can enable the ability for members to edit themselves, but they would have to be present and visit the map to do this. Some users may also have opted themselves out.

No, that doesn't address the problem I had. Users are showing fine; it's that nobody can view the map unless the admin account is set to be excluded from it.

I have other addons but this was the only install we did. I turned off all other addons but that did not make any difference. It's off currently but as soon as it's turned on the pm system and visitor message goes away. You can access the in box and out box. But the link to send the message under the user name goes away. Not sure why yet.
I do not see any new DB tech tables in the DB. I do have your shout box installed but that is the only tables i see.
Oh one thing I did not notice that you say it's for V4.2.X I'm running V4.1.11. Other then them 2 little things it seems to work and looks great. My problem is we can't update to V4.2 with out a "BUNCH" of work to get our style back up to the standard our members have grown accustom to. Is there some way we can entice you to check compatibility? Or look directly at our site? Http://www.mightyram50.net
Thanks.
The pictures show the diferance. First one map is on. Next it's off.

Here is what I have now. It is working but it's missing members. Some guys show up then there gone. It's kind of like some of the guys will only show up when on-line, while some are there all the time. Those members can't find them self. I will set the map so visitors can see the map, then you can look at it. Maybe there is a limit on how many can show.

One thing i noticed, and it seems to be an issue with vB, is that the CP seems to only take the IP address that the user originally registered with.
If you have imported users from elsewhere (like mine is) then there was no initial IP recorded as it wasn't carried accross, and therefore the IP field is blank in vB - meaning that they just don't appear on the map as they have no IP address :(

Installed with thanks for testing ... :)
Have noticed one problem right away ...
Color field doesn't recognize "black" (000000) for icons, or we're doing something else wrong as they just show up "red" when that hexadecimal value is used.
Suggestion... add a field that allows just showing "active members" after a certain date using "last activity" field ...
Going to have a look at "paid" version to see what additional features are offered ...

#000000 = correct
000000 = wrong
Unfortunately, you're incorrect ... ;)
The field accepts entries without a # prefix and works fine for all HTML Hex color codes except "black" or Hex 000000
In fact, if you put a # prefix in front of any Hex code, it truncates the last HEX character, screwing up the color.
For example.
Using FCFF00
If you put a # in front as you suggest, it becomes #FCFF0, cutting off the last HEX 0 character because it counts the # as one of the 6 character input numbers required.

Doug

Looking through the documentation for the pin colors, if you want the pin color to be back, don't enter any color (leave blank) in the setting, Pin Color that is the standard default color.

Installed today. Looks right but I have issues. I read everything here. Users over 14000, Google Chrome, server loaded as usually. How long need to wait to update (approximately?) After few hours showed less than 100 locations. Is it possible to show the most users on map? I know some IP might not have been resolved.
Second issue. Some nicknames changing when I update a website. I have 2 users from Vienna. They change each other after every click refreshing. Why can't be 2 nicknames at the same time if they live in the same location?

Hardly any of our members are showing up, at the moment. Would it be possible to have an option in the ACP settings to set a default location for members whos IP cannot be resolved please?
Also wondered if this is something I have setup wrong or because of the IP thing, I have a some members who are in a different usergroup but they are also in registered users, could this cause issues if both groups are displayed on the map?
Thanks

That's impossible, as users can enter anything they wish in that field. If you enter "Middle Earth", what exactly is Google Maps supposed to do with that? That's not a valid latitude / longitude coordinate set ;)

"Impossible" is a word that should be used sparingly. It's not impossible, of course -- you merely ignore entries which you can't resolve.
The biggest issue, as I mentioned before, is that you have only a binary choice of showing all 130,000 members (server crash!) or just those online right now (not very useful). It definitely needs some filtering mechanisms.

The registration IP is used, although members can also manually re-deploy their pin in case the IP provides an inaccurate location.

Just not working for me.
I've checked all usergroup permissions and all settings along with different maps and all I get is my own pin & one of of my paid/subscribers. Ive made 100% sure all users/usergroups can be seen on the map and even run the cron manually. No matter what it never geo locates new members. I've logged into a standard user account and can see the pin but once its set it doesnt stay on the map. I even removed the mod and reinstalled with overwrite and nothing changed. I've paused any kind of popup/ad blockers and still no members pins.
Did I miss anything???

Fillip,
since a few hosts seem to ignore to implement GeoIP, wouldn?t it be wise to add the MaxMind GeoIP-files to the mod package? That way all users could make use of that mod. Just needs a bit of tweaking in your mod, to work with the file instead of the PHP module. Just a suggestion :D

Are you making fun or is this your serious advice? Don?t wanna get you wrong on that.
But, is there a logical reason why including the free MaxMind GeoIP-files and amaking your mod working with that files isn?t an option? Not only are they definitly more accurate, updated on a regular basis - this would give all users (even those on shared hosting) the possibility to install and use this mod.

Okay I installed this map hack at my forum, we have around 18000 users.
We do not have any geo ip php extension, but map is still showing users online, how it works!?
Because users who were displayed in the city yesterday, they dissapeared , and on the same place there were displayed some other users.
i choosen to display all registered users on map.
Answers are all in this thread. This mod has a primary and a secondary method to locate users. If the primary fails (because mod_geoip isn´t available), method 2 kicks in. But as far as it seems, both methods don´t work very accurate. That´s what I can tell by the posts of others in this thread. Experiences may vary as usual.

Yeah unfortunately geolocation isn't an exact science. For instance, living in Glasgow (Scotland, UK) I frequently find myself being geolocated to London (England, UK). This is because the company that owns the IP address I'm connected to, has its registered access in London.
Some IP address blocks are registered to a more local office, but unfortunately it's not always possible to be 100% accurate.
Then there's some IP addresses that flat out don't have a registered address, either because the registered address records are not public, or for some other reason unknown to me.
The mod tries, it really does. That's all you can ask of the lad :p

I've always thought a better approach for a Member Map is to allow folks to enter their home as a profile field entry and then have THAT produce a pin on a map. Some of us have a jury-rigged version of an old version 3 member map that did just that. I am always surprised that no one has managed to build a more recent version that functions reliably. But I'm not a coder, so certainly not implying it's easy.

D.Your best bet may be to try a reinstall, as I believe if the mod detects an IP can't be resolved it will flag it to avoid re-testing in the future.

Sounds like you have the same problem as me. No GeoIp on your server.
If you can't add it yourself or if your host will not then you're kind of screwed. Uninstall and move on is my best advice. :o

I made a couple of modifications to this mod which are reasonably straightforward. Here are few tips if you want to make similar ones:
1) We didn't want an opt-out system, we wanted an opt-in system. To do so, before installing edit the XML so that the opt-out database flag is "1" by default for all users. Then change geoip_locate.php so it does do a location lookup even if someone is opted out (otherwise all users will have to find their pins at latitude/longitude 0,0). Finally to edit the "opt out" phrase to say "Do not show me on this map". Unchecking that box is how people opt in.
2) I made it so that a user's own pin is a different color from the rest of the pins. To do that, I edited membermap.php, appending to $colors with a usergroupid of "9999" with a color of "79604c". Then in the template dbtech_membermap_info template I set the "data-ugid" to 9999 for the user's marker.
These aren't elegant ways to add those two features, but they are the simplest, requiring the least amount of code modification. I can type up step-by-step instructions to do the above if there are requests.
I've got a couple of other ideas that sound simple to implement too: 1) making sure a user's pin is always on top to make it easy to find and drag, and 2) when a user's location is detected, the detected latitude and longitude should be offset by a random small amount and have that stored to the database instead. That helps avoid having many map markers stacked exactly on top of each other for those times that the GeoIP database gives the exact same location to all users in a given city (for example).

More fix-ups for this plugin. To make it work on phones, you need to do a couple of things:
1) fix the super zoomed in view of your template:
In the template dbtech_membermap_home, find the line that begins:
<meta name="viewport"
and replace it with:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=0.5, maximum-scale=0.5, user-scalable=no" />
Your site's style may not look perfect with this setting, but it will help a lot.
2) Make it so that you can select markers and see the users, find this block of code:
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'mouseover', function()
{ //set popups on hover
if (lastopen != infowindow)
{
if (lastopen) lastopen.close();
infowindow.open(map,marker);
lastopen = infowindow;
}
});
and after it, ADD this block of code
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function()
{ //set popups on click
if (lastopen != infowindow)
{
if (lastopen) lastopen.close();
infowindow.open(map,marker);
lastopen = infowindow;
}
});
Huzzah, it works on mobile!

I'm a total hamb-fist when it comes to coding, but I'd love to change the user-pin color. A step by step tutorial would be great...
Sure, it takes two steps:
STEP 1: In the template dbtech_membermap_info, find:
<div title="{vb:raw user.username}" data-latitude="{vb:raw user.dbtech_membermap_lat}" data-longitude="{vb:raw user.dbtech_membermap_lng}" data-ugid="{vb:raw user.usergroupid}" data-myself="<vb:if condition="$vbulletin->userinfo['userid'] == $user['userid']">1<vb:else />0</vb:if>" data-move="<vb:if condition="$moveable">1<vb:else />0</vb:if>">
and REPLACE it with this
<div title="{vb:raw user.username}" data-latitude="{vb:raw user.dbtech_membermap_lat}" data-longitude="{vb:raw user.dbtech_membermap_lng}" <vb:if condition="$vbulletin->userinfo['userid'] == $user['userid']">data-ugid="9999" data-myself="1"<vb:else />data-ugid="{vb:raw user.usergroupid}" data-myself="0"</vb:if>" data-move="<vb:if condition="$moveable">1<vb:else />0</vb:if>">
STEP 2: In membermap.php, find:
foreach ($vbulletin->usergroupcache AS $ugid => $uginfo)
{ //format the usergroup colors
if (!($uginfo['dbtech_membermap_perms'] & 2))
{ //not excluded
$color = $uginfo['dbtech_membermap_color'];
$groups .= '<option style="color: #' . $color . ';" value="' . $ugid . '">' . $uginfo['title'] . '</option>';
$colors .= ", $ugid: '$color'";
$validugs[] = $ugid;
}
}
and after that ADD:
//Add in a special color representing the current user
$colors .= ", 9999: '79604c'";
the 79604c in the line above represents the color that the user's pin will appear as, which is a medium brown, but you can change it to whatever color you want. If you're not familiar with the scheme, just use one of the "hex codes" listed on this page (http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css_colors.asp), but exclude the pound sign.
Since these are manual edits, if you ever update the plugin to a new version, you may have to reapply these changes.

Hello,
I have installed dcmembermap https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=285479&highlight=dcmembermap
I have more than 100 pins from users now.
Is it possible to import the pins from the users from dcmembermap to dbtech membermap?
dcmembermap will not work with https or php >5.4 (it shows only a white screen) and I dont know how to fix that.

Running v1.1.1 om vBulletin 4.1.3 Patch Level 8 and it seems to display and run fine for active members.. thanks..
However, when I watch the CRON job run, it finishes fine, but the screen display at the end says this?
Member Map Geolocation
_lat = 0 AND dbtech_membermap_lng = 0"); log_cron_action(vb_number_format($done), $nextitem, 1); ?>
Done
Is this just cosmetic or symptomatic of a larger problem?

There was an API change that caused this mod to no longer function. I will update it as soon as I have time :)

this may have been answered already but
i have the map working fine
its just not showing anyone's location ... its just a map\
version 4.2.4
This plugin didn't work on the site of someone (didn't show any locations on the map) and I found the cause of it. In the cronjob file around line 75 where it does json_decode, a second argument (true) has to be passed so the object is converted to an array, else the is_array check after this line fails.
This probably doesn't happen on all PHP version, but on 5.4.16 I had to make this modification.

That's great. But... where is the cronjob file located? I checked on the server in the membermap folder, but there's just he php file there.
I checked in the admin under scheduled tasks, and nothing with 75 lines is there. Can't seem to find this file you are referring to.
Can you post the location?
Thanks.

./dbtech/membermap/geoip_locate.php
Thank you for that.
One problem.... what is the exact code that needs to be put there?
I know vbulletin pretty well, but I'm not a coder. You say "a second argument (true)" needs to be put after the json code. But what is the the code for this argument?

I'm just getting empty map on php 5.6 and vb4.2.4 so would welcome the exact change required in the posts above please?
Ive taken a guess at : $result = json_decode(curl_exec($ch),true);
let's see!

I've updated the .zip file here with the json_decode change as well as changing the API endpoint since the current endpoint will stop working on July 1.
Support is handled @ our site so any replies to this thread is likely to be missed.

I have looked through this thread but either I'm missing it or it hasn't been answered. Is there ANY way to search this map for a particular member? Because the IP location is often not accurate, it is often necessary to manually move your pin. When you have a LOT of pins however, it is almost impossible to find your pin if it is way off the mark. Hard to move it if you can't find it.

Got my answer on Dragonbytes site. Search is not an option and won't be added. I have removed this product.
