I just made a new install ( fresh ) of vbulletin with vbportal ( they said its the best way to ensure you dont get any errors ) and it seems fine.
Now the problem I have is that I have a 17mb backup ( i made prior to the fresh install ) with all my board on it but when I try importing it back to the databse, it says Table ACCESS already exists.
How can I merge the database I have with my backup one ??
thanks

Unfortunate since you installed the vBPortal hack I really wouldn't know. Have you tried posting on their forums for help? Maybe someone has run into the same problem.

:(
ok, I got another idea
would it be possible to import a single DB on version 2.0.3 of vbulletin but the DB being a 2.0.0 version backup ?? If not, how can I upgrade the db to the current version of the vbulletin software ??
thanks

I would upgrade your version first, then backup and restore it. The upgrade instructions are here:

and here:

Sorry, I don't understand. Why do you need to upgrade if you did a fresh install? Besides upgrading from 2.0.0 to 2.0.3 only takes 5-10 minutes at the most. You'll then have to revert the listed templates to get all the new features and fixes.

ok ill explain
*takes deep breath*
I orginally used vbb ( vbulletin ) version 2.0.0 with vbportal (vbp ) 2.1
I uninstaleld vbp due to some erros I couldnt get rid of, but the database adjestments vbp 2.1 made to my db seem to be still there.
so, this day coems and I need to install vbp 3.0 ( which is supposed to work fine with 2.0.3 ) so, I backup my db, put it aside and install 2.0.3 ( but fresh install ). I make it a fresh install because vbp 3.0 seems to install best on a fresh install of 2.0.3 ( and indeed it did ).
Now, I got vbp 3.0 workign fine, but without my threads and forum which are in the db I have put aside ( 17 mb big ).
So , I try ( being the amateur I am :) ) importing my saved db into the current db but I get an error " Table ACCESS already exits " or somethign similar and so I gather I cant do it.
So NOW, im runing all over the place, not understanding what to do as I cant get cbp 3.0 working and I DESPERATELY need this portal to work.
If I install 2.0.3, import my backup THEN install vbp 3.0 , it seems to un-install the vbp 2.1 settings fro mthe db, and installs the 3.0 settings fine , and I upload the style for vbp 3.0 fine but I cant see the portal then :(
* gasps for air*
I hope it makes sense now, and if someone can help me then Ill be the most thank ful guy in the world !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

Unfortunately I have no experience with vBPortal and can't help you with that. Is it possible for you to restore a clean copy of your vB database (without the changes introduced by vBPortal) then apply the hack again after you've restored the database? If not, then you're really asking for support on a hacked database and I can't help you there.
As I said earlier, you might want to post your problem in the vBPortal forums. Maybe someone has run into the sam problem and can offer a suggestion. Good luck!

Hi mate
well, no one seems to want to help there, because I am not a CONTRIBUTING member ( i dont think paying $35 for a BETA peice of software I ALREADY have is worth it ) so they wont help me
BUT, thanks for the response and good wishes :)
much apprecaited !

Your experience is why I am very cautious about installing any hacks that modify the database. Good luck on your problem. You might want to consider $35.00 to be a good investment if it means getting your database restored and running again.

There may well be, but you're asking for support on a hacked database. Maybe someone will be able to help, but I don't have that kind of knowledge.

To only restore certain tables you need to edit the backup files and remove all the tables you don't want to restore. That is all the help we can offer since you have caused your own problems by changing the database schema.

Which is why you won't get any help at phpPortals.

I thought VBportal 3.0 was supposed to offer a "lite" installation option with no database or VB modifications?

The present release of vbPortal requires no script changes or table changes to "vBulletin" tables except for the template additions when minimally installed, or as the "lite" version. However there still are additional tables to be added to handle the front page blocks and addons, one could install those tables in a separate database, but I haven't added that as an option in the install instructions.
