View Full Version : manual cookie timeout link?
could someone come up with a hack that will reset your cookietime out manually by clicking a link to say your main forums like UBB has, or a sort of "marked as read" like ezboard and a few other message boards have.
is this possible?
Yeah, it's called the "Log Out" link that comes standard on the BB. But I think the address is something like index.php?action=clearcookies

that wouldn't be very convienant i think. just some link that would mark all the current forums as read manually without having to wait for the cookie time out setting.
"If the features are alreday built in, why not use them?"

Because it's not!
I agree this feature would be extremely useful - especially for frequent visitors like myself!
But it is - you just have to re-log yourself in. It's really not that difficult, especially with the auto-fill feature in IE. I do it all the time. And going through my site stats, there are a lot of hits to pages with my users logging themself in and out.
I don't know what would technically be involved with making it so you don't have to log back in, but the general feature is already there.

Well if it's already there, it should be hard to automate it into a single click function, should it ?! As I see it though, it's a totally different thing as it is at the present time.
yeah i think it's different aswell. It might have the same effect as waiting for your cookie timeout setting, but if you're like many of the people who visit my board, no matter what i set it to, it's not very convienant. I currently have it set pretty low (240) i get new posts to the board every few minutes. sometimes several every minute depending on what topics are there.
check out my board if you want to see. a lot of the people who come to my site are LONG time visitors and spend hours each day reading posts.
