Hello
my hoostage (hostgator ) suspend my site many times because Vbulletin
was causing a high load on the server, and due to it affecting all of the other accounts on the system, I was forced to take immediate action for the health of the server.

Unfortunately I do not have any specific recommendations for this script, however, in general, adding some sort of caching mechanism, where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request, helps to lower the over load that a script will cause. Likely the original author or support group of the software that you are using will be able to help you to understand how to add something of this nature.

Are you using any kind of chat system on your site? I have hostgator and they "do not" like when people using forums have chat systems.

Also what kind of set up do you have for say private messages, images and other features that might cause server load to increase due to an increase in page requests.

Go through your settings and search for anything having to do with high server load increase and performance.

Check your site using the Patrick Meenan model. It will show your actual CPU loading, and also break down everything your site loads on a browser, might yield a clue:

On your hosting, do you have the ability to monitor your CPU load, or are you stuck just having to trust their word?

What are the server load averages showing in adminCP?

Max if hes on a shared program I don't think he will be able to see all that info in cPanel. I have hostgator and I will see what options I have.

I do use webpagetest.org , very good site to help monitor your sites...good recommendation!

Correct, I had to remove the chat systems I was trying on vbulletin because "they" were causing high server loads and hostgator was slamming me on those every time I installed one.

That is the only bad thing about hostgator, they just don't like chatbars and shoutboxes being used on their customers sites.

Does HostGator lock your php memory limit? I've never used their service.

Correction PSF....they set it at 64MB by default and it is locked unless you are on a VPS plan.

This should help you with caching and database optimizing that should increase performance while limiting server usage.

Turn off your stats modification. Those hog resources big time.

Don't list all your sub-forums on your forum home page. Take a look at your page source on that page - that needs to be sent out to everyone everytime they click on that page. It's HUGE.

Get rid of as many graphics as possible on your home page. Or at least optimize them. You have a 300 x 100 gif and it's over 24KB in size http://www.upislam.com/images/66908021861817659542.gif I ran it through this site and just reducing it to 32 colors saves you 28% in size. And honestly, it doesn't look that different and nobody will notice or care. You could probably go to 16 colors and reduce the size by 43%.

Do not show images inline. Or, if you must, turn on thumbnails and leave it at 100x100 and use those. Then users can click on the thumbnail to see the full image.

Turn off viewing attachments and thumbnails for Unregistered Users. This is a MUST right now! It's a usergroup permission.

That's enough to get you started. But you should also take a look at all your modifications and see if they are really needed. Facebook comments? Similar Threads? Take a look at anything that adds queries or external scripts.

Yes, that template you are using on your forums is to image heavy and the images are not optimized at all.

Use this site to help you optimize your site: http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.alltebfamily.com/KwSpQi6p

It will give you a list of all the images you have to optimize and a link to the optimized version of each image so that you can just click, save and upload and replace them on your server.

You also have to add some type of caching to your files and add image dimensions to your images as well.

Fixing those 3 issues will greatly improve your site's performance and "probably" quiet hostgator down.

Good stuff and yes you should get the proper image dimensions and add them. That is going to take some work, maybe a couple of hours but you should do it as well.

Dude, really. Ditch this custom skin and use the vB default until you get all of these issues worked out. This skin is so poorly designed, it will take a lunation to fix it.

It's not so much that the custom skin is poorly designed though Max. All of vBulletin's default skins are missing the image dimensions for all of those images which is one of the areas in which Page Speed rates image dimensions as high priority.

Even if he used the default template he would still score low. He needs to implement that caching code I gave him into his .htaccess file and he will see good results and just add the image dimensions to all those images.

They are hard to find but not difficult. The best way for you to find them Dr_Mo7ammad is to copy just the actual image file portion, i.e. (collapse_tcat.gif) and then look for it in your templates by doing a template search in your admin cp.

You can also find the image by doing a search for (misc), (buttons), just depends where the image is located.

You will certainly have to use your head to find these images.

Dr_Mo7ammad you've pretty much been given all the advice available, it is a pain but as a forum owner you have to go to all the trouble yourself to sort this. IF you have followed Lynnes' advice and disabled ALL modifications and are still having load issues then you should ask your host to provide you with the name of the script taking up all the resources or raise a support ticket with vbulletin.com.

There's little more we can do for you, if you need these things doing for you then you can post in the PAID modifications section and ask for direct help, remember this will mean that you will have to give usernames and passwords to your forum and to your server so make sure you trust the person completely and then change passwords afterwards.

There is just too much going on in this site, from the scrolling mods to all the images still not optimized.

I sent you a message on the 23rd of December and I never heard back from you Dr_Mo7ammad. The last test I ran on your forums still indicates you have not added the leverage caching I suggested you do.

This has nothing to do with hostgator. Also if you have anything to do with facebook I suggest you either a.) remove it or b.) figure out a way to minimize what it is you do with facebook.

I had facebook like buttons on my forums and I was getting messages from gator that it was affecting everyone else.

Facebook sends at times up hundreds of craw spiders to your site if you post share threads or posts to facebook. Their spiders at times can be crawling your site for content at a very high alarming rate.

This is a case where you are going to have to think everything over and decide what is more important on your site/forums.

Just too much going on on this forum buddy, way too much.

I host on shared hosting various websites with links for all posts to facebook twitter etc etc it's the host and what is "acceptable usage" to them. In this situation it is best to move hosts to ensure uninterrupted service. Go to webhostingtalk there are a lot of hosting offers there with discounts. You could try mddhosting

Are you allowed to install Memcached? Can you modify the my.cnf file? Upgrade mysql? Turn off apache modules? etc (Also, you only linked to one thread - they are both the same.)

My comment was regarding the tutorial you linked to - I highly doubt that since you are on a shared server that your host would allow you to do many of the things in that thread, so I don't understand why they would link you to it.

Thank you for the update to this issue. From looking at the access logs at the time of the suspension it appears that while the vbulletin installation itself could use some general optimization the issuse itself may have bene in part triggered by excessive numbers of requests coming from the bing bot, as such I would strongly advise manually throttling the crawl rate of the bing bot as is described in the following article:

I've built anti bot mods (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=264932) but i run my forums allowing free crawl from the bots (behaviour watching...etc) by far Baidu is the worst but never overloaded resources to the extent you are experiencing, that said, try installing my mod and edit the bot list to suit you and aftera short while those in the list will stop visiting your site and your resource usage will lower, i have to stress though it's not a fix for things that you or your hosts should do.

Bing, Facebook and Baidu bots do cause those issues, for me it was facebook's bots not Bings or Baidu's.
