need to have htaccess use the vbulletin user database for its logins/pass's (so that when u add a new user - its automatically updated in htaccess, when a user chgs their pass - its auto updated <-- just literally uses SQL db for its logins)
thanks in advance

Auth_MYSQLhost www.vbulletin.com
Auth_MYSQLusername root
Auth_MYSQLpassword *****

I spoke to my webhost and they said they won't support mod_auth_mysql unless they can find a version that will work as a DSO (a module that can be loaded at run time into the web server). They were having trouble setting up my_auth_mysql so that it didn't just use one global database, so that each user could use it independantly.
Does anyone have any experience with this or any advice?

Its a DSO as standard now
just tell them to download the latest version from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=31352&release_id=44678
gunzip it then untar it
go into mod_auth_mysql-3.2 open Makefile and change the axps and mysql paths respecitvely and then save. type make and then your done :)

What is axps, and how do I come about having it? ran an updatedb;locate axps with no results.
Running Debian 2.2.18pre21 (potato) with apache 1.3.9 and mysql 3.23.36, php 4.0.3pl1
I'd like to install this, couldn't find anything in apt regarding mod_auth_mysql, and when I grabbed the source at sourceforge, there was no configure, just a makefile, and I'm not too sure as how to go about modifying that.

try whereis apxs
and type
pico Makefile to open it and you should be able to edit it, you will need to edit the paths for MySQL and apxs to whatever, probably
/usr/sbin/apxs
i typed it wrong in my post, my bad :stupid:

No apxs, no axps, nothing. Not with locate, not with whereis. apt-get install axps or apxs returns no packages.
and pico? use vi like a man. ;)

Anyone know where I can get axps or apxs or whatever? From my assumption it comes with apache, but it's nowhere to be found on my system.

Look in /usr/local/apache/bin
or /etc/httpd/bin

APXS is the Apache Extension Tool and makes Apache DSO modules work. You get it from the Apache website - with Apache...

How do you restrict this to specific user groups.?? My forum is a club website . .... there is registerd forum users ( Non PGAC Members, userid = 2) and there is registerd forum users with Private access who have paid ( PGAC Members, userid = 8)
I want to be able to use the forum database but only allow the PGAC members to access the areas i want via this htaccess thing.

This hack cannot do that, all the files are in the same directory so an individual forum cannot be protected by .htaccess you need to use Forum Permissions to set which groups can access a forum and which can't.

That won't protect an individual forum though, unless you two boards installed in different directories.

If they are PHP files make sure the include golbal.php and have like following after it:
if ($bbuserinfo['usergroupid'] == id){
elseif ($bbuserinfo['usergroupid']){
show_nopermission();
}
This may not be correct, I'll test it when I get home, I think it should work.

Is there a way to get this to work on Win 2000 running IIS 5?
Shawn
er...in a word
"No"
Htaccess is an Apache thing.

Why would you want to use the same username and passwords for .htaccess? Isn't it better to have a different set of username and passwords in case the database ones gets compromised? That's what I do.

Htaccess is an Apache thing.
Nope. In several web servers (most commonly Apache), .htaccess (hypertext access) is the default name of a directory-level configuration file that allows for decentralized management of web server configuration.
It works on several webservers so also on Sun Java System Web Server and Zeus Web Server.
So it's not specific an Apache thing but a webserver thing on a *nix (Unix/Linux) environment. And that's the reason it won't work on windows. Otherwise people get confused why it won't work with Apache for windows.

At the time this information was posted it was probably correct.
Closing as this is a 8 year old thread.
