Would be nice to have a mod that reports general ip info as reported on this site, example: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip/37.59.236.42
It would also be nice to have the possibility to have this info during the registration approval process (users awaiting mod) so to approve/disapprove new users based on the info.

I don't want to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do, but I will just point out FYI that the "whatismyipaddress.com" web site's terms of use say you can't use it in any automated way without permission.

It is a good idea though.

is this ur ip that u seem to be showing in the first post. Not a good idea to post that but as you have Ian Gronberg from france if that is your name you seem to be listed on a few spam websites and from what I am counting more that 10,000 times and just on one site. And trying to mask your ip and changing your location does not help spammers will always be stopped

I could be wrong, but my guess is that mat8861 provided an example of a spammer ip address to show the kind of information that would be useful to check during registration. In any case I'll bet Ian Gronberg from France is primarily guilty of running a proxy server (if you're saying he owns the ip - otherwise he's probably a spammer who uses that proxy server).

I am sure it is a proxy but that does not mean it is not his if it is not his why use that ip for I say the one above his his real ip and the others shown on the spam site are the proxies. As you are a mod not sure if you see his ip or not even if you did I am sure you would not post it but you could check his ip to see if it is a known spammer. I am sure you are sick of them as much as I am would just like to ask one why they do it if we have one above

Paul M has a mod out that gets the real ip if a proxy is used (if the proxy has that reporting capability) and i have one i've built for my site for mods to be able to do a "whois" from any post with one click, i'd release it here but it uses some php code that i didn't build and it doesn't save any of the info in the database...etc

If anyone wants it they can PM me :)

Yeah, that's fine, you could be right but I was just a bit concerned that it came across as accusing him when we don't know if that's even his ip address.

Completly correct. That's just a public ip for a proxy (google search) I got to show as an example. I have Paul's mod but as he specifies doesn't work on anonymous proxy, the scope is to block them during registration.
Of course "confirmed proxy server" and "Recently reported forum spam source" are the info I am looking for.

I'm pretty sure existing anti-spam mods like Glow-Host do a similar check on new registrations and will deny them if the IP address is a known spammer.

Sort of re-inventing the wheel here.
