Are there people out there who already have vB 5?

I saw quite a lot of vB contributors bashing the software (vB5), so I'm going to assume that a lot of them are not going to be developing mods for this version until later on.
I'm sooooo tempted to buy VB5, put up a test forum and play around with it.
But my wife would kill me :D Too much going on right now to spend money on web software:(

I'd love to see how is working with vb5, but it's too much monet for just a buggy beta so i'll wait 'til the final version. I don't know any developers that have already vb5

I'm having issues installing/upgrading an old database for testing at this time.
Things have changed and it is a little confusing. Will take some time for things to come out and everyone adjust to the new ways.

The alpha test customers have had vB5 and the new extension system doco for a while now.
Some mods have been written.
As vB5 is now public it can be said:
a) The new extension system is 100% OO and nothing like the plugin system in vB4
b) there are new template hooks that can call the API
c) The SQL I/O is now abstracted and is different, so presumably other databases can be used besides MYSQL
d) It will take a fair time for add-ons to catch up, the structure of vB5 is different and makes a lot of add-ons redundant, but creates a need for new ones
e) The new system has an auto install feature
There is a bit of learning curve ahead for all of us.
vB5 is early beta and needs a lot of work to be production ready.
Be patient!

There are quit a few coders that already have vB 5. And as ricktas said, a few mods have already been written.
Personally, my Raffles mod is for the most part done but there is one more thing that needs to be worked out before release.

I give a fast look to a BOP5 mod, so basically in vbulletin 5 if you don't know OOP you can't do an extension

I don't have vB5, but as soon as I get cash (probably in December. vB5 should be 'good' by then), I will try and port my mods to vB5. But I am still learning vB4...
So...

I was just checking out the beta, and Applecraft's website, I hate to say, but I am not impressed with VB5 thus far. It may be too much of a radical departure from what we know as the established norm. That could be a good thing *shrug*

I am worried about one thing. Users do not like changes. Look at what happened recently to facebook when they introduced the timeline. Everywhere you go people were complaining about that. And so many others suffered the same fate. Even mighty microsoft suffered from that at one point.

I purchased vb5 thinking it was ready for prime-time. Well, big mistake!
Dummy that I am, I receive the email about the launch of vb5, went to their website and was blown away by the presentation, and then immediately bought it as an upgrade for my forum at clubnook.com.
I had some problems installing it, contacted vb about it, and that's when I was told that it is beta and that I should not use it now. Well, son of a gun! The only reason I bought it is because of all of their advertisement on their website saying I could use it to upgrade. I didn't see anything about it not being ready.. at least not in the ads. It may have been there, but I just didn't see it.
Anyway, I think the new features are awesome. I also think the admin area is a lot better.
Now the waiting begins . . .

@Derwin
1. NEVER upgrade without a backup
2. NEVER upgrade without doing a test site first, especially with a major new release
3. See point 1
4. vB said it was a Beta release in many places
5. See point 1

It reminds me of IPB 3.0. Not liking it!

I was under the mistaken impression that one must never upgrade without a backup. Thanks for making it so amply clear to us. :)

I also will be buying it as soon as I have spare cash but won't be upgrading my existing forum. As said it'll annoy the current users as its too different and my forum has too many mods.
Instead I'm going to use it to create a new website based on my current one but for a new geographic area. That way what they don't know they're missing won't hurt them and it gives me a chance to test mods when they appear before the possible day in the very distant future when I do upgrade.
I can't wait to get my hands on v5 but know it's going to be a nightmare!

How about styling it? Shouldn't be that hard with the new system.

I purchased the upgrade yesterday and also got the $25 coupon so the total was $183 USD. I'm still at 4.2 and will stay there till things get ironed out. Looks very promising :).

No offense but the example posted on here looks a complete mess. I have been a forum admin, like many, since 1995 and one I do know is that users like to have simplicity and to be able to find what they are looking for quickly and easily. That is even more the case now.
The examples I have seen look like a confused mass of content with no context. I don't know if it's the examples I have seen but kicking off with an activity stream makes no sense. As a user it's not clear at all.

And I'm looking forward to new mods extending vB3 functionality in social networking field. (user walls/activity streams, improved blogging system, commenting system etc.)
