? measure clicks on custom/sponsor ads

I've put a few sponsor ads (for a boating site I operate) in the built-in vBulletin sidebar.
These are just jpg's.

Is there a way for me to measure how many clicks these things get ?
Obviously, this will help measure the ad "effectiveness" and justify recurring sponsorship.

Or.... perhaps I should be thinking about a different mechanism altogether ?

You could use adserver software like openx.
