Ok forgive me, last time I used VB it was like 2.4 or something. I see a lot of boards that have a side column on the right hand side. It shows new posts and featured stuff. What is that?

That is the forum sidebar/block that is available in vB 4.

The blocks in the sidebar can be defined in the forums & moderators section of the ACP.
