Cute PostMan Notification Mod

This is my secind mod in here , hope you like it. I was doing it for myself but i thought maybe it's a use to all of you guys too.

What this hack do ?
when a private message is received or a visitor message or a friend request or a social group invitation a cute and kind post man comes to the screen and informs the user , with a link to the section he must visit.

Installation Guide :

1- upload "new-mail-notification.gif" to your forum/images/misc/ folder
2- Import the product

DONE

additionally you can turn this hack ON/OFF and disable copyright (not recommended) in vbulletin options page.

I'd note that that's Postman Pat, so if you have a big site you might end up with a C&D from the BBC.

My users like it.. but are asking if there was a way to modify some of it's functionality:

1) Remove it being clickable... they just want the graphic

2) Select on what it alerts you to. People want it for Private Message only.

Maybe some ideas for the next version?

I have implemented your code instead of the original one but the postman image is no longer displaying when I have a new pm :erm:

Maybe you've left something out like an end > or something similar, it works fine on my forum vb3.8

EDIT: one sec. thats because i have changed the image for me, see, it ends in .png, just change that to .gif and it will work fine :)

That made the trick :) ... Thank you Simon ... However still one more issue I hope you could fix it :confused: ... When I click the postman image in Google Chrome it takes me to the unopened pm :up: ... However the image is non-clickable in IE :erm: ... Is there any solution?

if you swap the elements round as i have show in post #22 they should be clickable, that change is howed for just one of them within the product works fine for me in IE8.

Postman image is clickable now in IE with your modified code ... Many thanks Simon :up:

Just make sure you change the other elements in the product to do the same, import product with overwrite and you'll be golden :)

do they have their own notification system or they use normal vbulletin notification system ? i might look into their code if i have free time.
