View Full Version : Resolution of image attachments (suggestion)

Hello!
Latest months I started to publish vb products here. But I pick up a difficulty about the "presentation" of our hacks, on publishing threads.
I think that members of vbulletin.org takes a note about our hacks, when they watch the screenshots we upload on publishing threads.
The difficulty: attachment image uploads has a limit of 1024x768 pixels. So the screenshots we upload, auto-resized by the system and a lot of times "they destructed". For example an admincp options page screenshot has big height, so after the upload the phrases/options doesn't appear correctly.
To sum up, I suggest to increase the limit of image dimensions for attachments. Nowadays our PC monitors has high resolution, so images displayed on our browsers without scroll bars. :)
Sorry for my bad english, hope you understand.

I might consider it for some of the "smaller" types, such as png, jpeg and gif - but we dont want huge image files uploading.
Out of interest, what size were your images ?

the best way to deal with this situation is stupid... use less wide browser windows... see, you can make them 1000 pixel wide, take your screenshot, and put them back to how you like 'em...
facebook think the same actually... maximum 960 pixels wide... everything bigger is resized.
i don't see why a website would move everything just to please people who like their widescreen to be filled with a single window...

I agree that they should be a bit more of a size allowance however, i think the files should be gif as you can fit the same quality in a smaller package, for larger pictures i think a sharing repository is ok like photobucket...etc
You could always include the larger screenshots in your download package :)

Personally my limitation isn't the width, it's the length (I am aware of how this sounds :erm:) but especially when posting screen shots of settings longer would be better. I'd like to see a max height of 2000 pixels or more.

i must admit i do not have that kind of problem, i hate to have tons of settings for my products, so i minimize these pages... rofl

A height of 2000 isnt going to happen.
If there are more reasonable suggestions then they can be considered.
Atm, Im thinking either 1280 x 1024, or maybe 1440 x 900 to cater for widescreen.

Rather than cater for wide screen per sé choose the size that allows for clarity, i personally think that 1280 X 1024 is large enough.

I start at 2000 and it gets negotiate down. ;)
The OP also mentioned the issue being height of Admin CP Options as the main issue- 1440 x 900 doesn't address that issue... 900 x 1440 would be better- the width isn't really the issue.

Yes larger image attachment size is much needed and also please put up a better system for viewing the attachments like highslide or lightbox. Right now each attachment opens in a new page and you have to keep going back and forth. The high slide hack described here does things quite nicely https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=229837&highlight=highslide
And also while you are about it please consider my long pending request for a bb code or something like AME to post youtube videos.
