Dragonbyte Gallery is a fully functional gallery system addon for your forum that will allow your users to create their own photo albums to store and display their images. You can run multiple instance of the gallery on the same site with the same files, yet have a completely different look and function because of the modular sytem it was built on. Users can customize how their gallery profile is displayed on each instance.

Major Features

Multiple Instances You can run an unlimited number instances of the gallery on the same forum with same set of files! Each instance can have a different look and feel to it, and with enough work can have a completely different function because of the system we built it on.

AJAX integration We used AJAX wherever we could to help reduce the page reloads

Automatic resizing and thumbnail creation As long as your server can handle it, the users can upload whatever size pictures they want. The gallery will control the size displayed and stored, and will even create a thumbnail, all automatically. Users no longer have to worry about resizing their images to fit what your forum specifies. If you do not have a server with the power to resize images (GD image library can get pretty memory intensive) then you can set the gallery to reject images that do not fit into your size criteria.

User Albums Users can create their own image albums to organize and display sets of their images. Albums can also be set to hidden and/or password protected. So users who want to have images for only certain friends or not visible to anyone else at all can easily organize them.

Complete Feature List (Lite)

Thanks, this looks promising. I do have a practical question. I plan to test this on a test site before a live version is used, but here is my concern:

If an image is inserted into a thread using the BB code and later the user decided to delete the image in his album, will the image still be stored in the thread or will we get the dreaded red "X" image not found?

Thank you!

Thanks for linking me to that, no one told me it wasn't working and I didn't happen to read those image comments heh. I'll work on getting that fixed and release a patch.

It's like any other remote image, it'll show a red x. If I retained all images the size on the server could get quite large.

I am having a slight problem. I'm running 4.2. I created a new instance. When I click on the new instance tab, the Gallery tab is highlighted rather than the new instance tab. Help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not setup to work per forum. If you are viewing the images from Gallery B though you will not see the images from Gallery A. They aren't intermixed.

I have a fix for this, I'll release the package after I'm sure I don't have any more pressing bugs. If you want to manually fix it for now

Open
dbtech/gallery/clientscript/gallery.js

Find
extraparams += '&comment=' + PHP.urlencode(comments);and replace with

extraparams += '&comment=' + comments; It wont fix comments already submitted but new comments should show correctly.

For others that run into this, when you create a gallery instance make sure you fill out the Short Name field. It's the tab identifier and tells vB what tab you are currently on. Make it something short, without spaces or special characters, like public_gallery.

We are working on getting docs put together so sorry if you run into config problems in the meantime.

In the ACP, edit the gallery instance and make sure the image/thumb height/width is set to something. I suggest 150x150 for the thumbs and 800x600 for the full image size.

That's a pro feature as listed in the first post. Unless you did buy it, but then support should be asked for at DBT for pro stuff since it's not allowed here on vb.org.

Can a current album be moved over to a created category?

Whoops, fair enough! But, it's wrong. =) The description on the DBT site, it's in the Pro version (and in the mod in the Pro version). So the description needs updating here.

Seems a bit buggy. Getting th same error message popup when saving an image. However, the image saves.

If I click on Direct Image Code or BBCode Image, they don't stay highlighted to copy.

When I copy the image code and insert into a normal forum thread, the image is broken

Sorry for not being around this afternoon to fix the problems. Kids don't understand "daddy wants to fix his code" :)

I just uploaded version 1.0.1
Fixed - missing pro file error
Fixed - bad img bbcode link
Fixed - non english characters in comments

I'm also sorry about the mix up on the watermarking. I didn't catch that last section with the watermark info when I was submitting the addon. Watermarking is a pro only feature.

The installation script created the folders for the default instance but the directory is not writeable. You will need to fix the permissions on the folders for the product to work correctly. Please check the permissions on the dbtech/gallery/images/upload/ and dbtech/gallery/images/upload/1 folders. Once you fix the permissions you can verify that future instances will be created correctly by checking the Image Upload Path in the ACP settings Gallery Image Options area. This is also the location that needs to be changed if you want to modify the file location.

I set the permission for folder "upload" and "upload/1" to 777 but I couldn't finish the installation process.

Uploaded an image, getting "MISSING IMAGE" with a large missing image picture.. what's this?

And how exactly do I remove images? When I click "delete" under "edit image" the black box floats around the screen and disappears from view.

Further more, the comment (reply) box is really messed up.

No need to be sorry, I'm sure there's some work that has gone into this. I was following your link to your main site, but it takes me to a blank page?

Was interested in the branding free option, and also the watermark facility.

It's like any other remote image, it'll show a red x. If I retained all images the size on the server could get quite large.

Dylan

Thanks for the response. I didn't want to retain all images, but did want to keep any that had been used inside a thread. This way we would not have that 'missing image' notification or the dreaded red "x".

I was hoping there was a way that when a member deleted an image in the gallery that was being used inside a thread or post, that that image would remain - or perhaps not be deletable in the gallery once it is used in the thread. Just an idea that I think would be useful.

Thanks for your work on this regardless.

I completely understand. The red X is ugly :)
The main problem I see is when a user goes to delete an image, I have to check if the full image or thumb is used in a post, which means doing a scan on a field in the post table that isn't indexed, which can be very bad on a forum with a lot of posts.

I understand. This made me think of two other possibilities:

1. Is there a way to make an image that is stored in the gallery and that is put in a post - use the attachment feature from the forum software? (I'm not really sure I'm explaining that correctly.) I mean, is there some way to cause the image to be stored as an attachment - if it is put into a post - and from the gallery? I currently have my forum set up so that members cannot delete attachments. After 48 hours, they can no longer edit a post either. If the inserted image code somehow triggered the attachment manager for VB, then the image would be safe even if the user deleted the image in their personal gallery. (I'm just dreaming here as I do not know how that system works and it may be the same issue as you described before.) :)

2. Alternatively, I wonder if after 'X' number of days of being posted into an album, if all images in that album can become non-deletable? I suppose that would do the trick, but not really what one looks for in a gallery setup I guess. haha.. I'm just trying to find away to offer a gallery to the members that will not result in broken threads/posts down the line.

Thanks for your time, Dylan.

Uploaded an image, getting "MISSING IMAGE" with a large missing image picture.. what's this?

And how exactly do I remove images? When I click "delete" under "edit image" the black box floats around the screen and disappears from view.

Further more, the comment (reply) box is really messed up.
http://tf2lottery.com/images/Dragonbyte-Gallery-issue.jpg

(Check the bottom).. I've zoomed out to fit the image, but in reality the top bar goes through the smilies.

I had the same mistake with you but when I set size for thumbnail and photo size, it's ok now :)
FOr the comment box, change to Vb Style it will be fix with your board.

Any possible way that there can be an option to "increase the image to full size" on the screen?

More issues by the way, see images. First image, information within the picture itself, can this be changed? I can't even read it. Second image, right side, it goes outside the box. Internet explorer also has quite a few issues with the image display. Third image? I think you can make the guess.

Also, vB style fixed the issue for me and changing the max weight/height sizes from 0 to a another fixed the "no image" issue.

You must have to change the size of your photo thumbnail in instance gallery to under 150 pixel as Dylan recommended.

I don't know if either way would be desirable really. First one you are doubling up on space used, which can get quite large. Second one, the users will eventually figure out the time limit, post an image and delete it sooner then they would to keep it from being stuck on their gallery.
I just thought of another idea I'll think about trying. I can add an option in the acp so you can set any images to go to a moderator group on delete. Then the moderators can check if the image is associated with anything before either physically deleting it or leaving it as non visible in the gallery but still available for links.

I'm using 1280x1024 Resolution. Image sizes, 1280x1024 max, I've re-changed the thumb file sizes to 277 x 156, which seems to fix a "few" issues. but messes up the "My Most Recent Images" in my profile page. as seen on the third image I shown you in my last post.

Still.. A "Show fullscreen image" when clicking the image or a button would be great.

I just added release 1.0.2 which should fix the issues.

1.0.2 includes
Fixed - rating image permissions
Fixed - adding image to favorites permissions
Fixed - thumbnails larger then 150px
Fixed - set max image size and added view full image link if larger then 800px
Fixed - unknown in who's online

In the next feature version I am going to get rid of the fixed 800px size and add a UserCP settings so the user can set what the max image size they want to see is.

Awesome, fixed quite a few things! Though wanted to let you know that:

^ Still an issue.

Plus, I added 15 images. I clicked "save all" but it only added 2 images. While the rest is inactive. I have to active them on my own..

Also, when I wish to activate them, it says "You must enter a title / Subject!" While I never had to fill this in when I uploaded them and saved them.

Also, any option to mass remove images?

Yes, you would just upload the new files and import the pro product file. You will then have some new options to set and the users will have some new functionality. So feel free to use the lite version until you see a reason to upgrade.

I'll check the save all and title/text problems. If you are in your profile and click Browse All Images you should see the option to select and delete multiple images at once.

I can't replicate the problem with the image out of the box in the My Recent Images. Could I get access to your site to take a look?

Next version I'm looking at putting the mass delete option while viewing your profile as well.

Did you white out some of the other images? It should size the outer box to be the size of the largest image. It does it that way because the layout would look really screwed up with different size boxes all around. I'm working on making the image more centered so it looks better in the box.

I just released 1.0.3 which fixes the following:

Fixed - must enter description when editing image
Fixed - ajax not submitting all images as active
Fixed - Front page latest album error
Fixed - "File path not writeable" on upload

The ajax not setting images to active might not be 100%. The problem is that the page would forward to your profile before all the ajax submits were complete. To fix this for now I added a timer which will wait 1 second per image before going to the profile. Some slower forums might need to bump that up a bit. I'll probably redesign how it works in the 1.1 version.

Let me know if you run into any other issues

hi there im havin this problem on vb 4.2 mate

The installation script created the folders for the default instance but the directory is not writeable. You will need to fix the permissions on the folders for the product to work correctly. Please check the permissions on the dbtech/gallery/images/upload/ and dbtech/gallery/images/upload/1 folders. Once you fix the permissions you can verify that future instances will be created correctly by checking the Image Upload Path in the ACP settings Gallery Image Options area. This is also the location that needs to be changed if you want to modify the file location.

i did modify the permissions but still the same problem any help thx.

I'll work on getting them centered so they look better in the box. I don't want to resize them though. If you upload a normal image and a small one, like a regular image and a small 20x20 icon, the small image's thumb would look really pixelated and distorted.

What kind of error do you get?

I haven't tried to create the tabs in the nav manager. Since the number of galleries is dynamic, makes it hard to deploy something with hardcoded values.

Also, you don't need to disable it in the plugins. There is an option when you are editing the instance to display the nav link or not. Just set Navigation Link? to No

Yes, setting the navigation link setting to no will let you create the link in the navigation manager manually without causing problems. I'm not sure how you set it, I manually set it up in the navigation manager with and without the plugin disabled and it worked fine.

Right now no, but I plan on doing something. The plan was to do it per image though. I was thinking it would start with all age images then if the user clicked a link, they would have to verify their age before seeing any +18 images. Also was thinking about member only flags on images as well.

When Vault Wiki is enabled on my forum and I go to edit an image, the display is distorted and there are two error messages at the top and with iBid, when viewing the image the Auctions tab is selected. When I disable both products everything works well. I will contact Vault Wiki about the error messages because the error is coming from those files.

EDIT: I contacted vault wiki and was told
"Scripts that use vBulletin's editor need to make sure they load the following $specialtemplates:

'smiliecache',
'bbcodecache',

vBulletin needs these caches to create a number of editor buttons, including VaultWiki buttons."

How do I go about fixing this?

The Pinterest and the Facebook like are not generating any information on the target site after I click the buttons under a picture.

If you open dbtgallery.php and find

$specialtemplates = array(
'dbtech_gallery_instances'
);and replace it with

$specialtemplates = array(
'dbtech_gallery_instances',
'smiliecache',
'bbcodecache'
);That should fix it. I'll include that in the next package.

I'll check that. I've never used Pinterest, just replicated the buttons we use on our arcade lol.

Not sure on that. First thing I would check is make sure the Tag Scripts field has "dbtech_gallery" in it for the gallery tab.

It has the correct value. The correct tab is selected up until I click on the image to view it.

If that login you sent me is still good, send me the url and I'll take a look.

It's a planned feature for the next version :)

Right now no, but I plan on doing something. The plan was to do it per image though. I was thinking it would start with all age images then if the user clicked a link, they would have to verify their age before seeing any +18 images. Also was thinking about member only flags on images as well.

Dylan

That sounds perfect, just make sure it's easy for uploaders to tag their images as mature then. And any chance of adding keywords and a search option at some point? I'd most certainly buy the plugin if that's the case.

Yes, it'll just be a simple checkbox when uploading the image.
You can already add tags to the images. When you are viewing an image you can click a tag to view all images with the same tag. Searching is already there and it will include the title, description and tags in the search.

Awesome, once you update it to include the mature rating checkbox thing i'll be sure to buy the plugin as it's exactly what i'm looking for. Where would users be able to set if they want to view these mature images or not? It'd be quite annoying if they have to push agree every time they view a new mature image, maybe a checkbox on the user settings page ? And it'd be great if you also had a way of marking an image as mature on the category page, such as a title in red, or a mature: tag infront of the name, or whatnot..

I'm going to put it in the user profile for the gallery. That way you can set the default per gallery. So if you have a PG gallery you view, you can have all open, but you can set a NSFW gallery to not show adult images. There will also be a "this session" type of toggle on the main page that wont affect your saved setting so you don't have to go through resetting your preference all the time.

I'll try and think of a way to mark it as adult. Maybe a little 18+ that's watermarked on a corner of the thumbnail on the fly. I'm thinking about making it an option to not show the text below the thumbnails and put that text in a mouseover hover. That way you get more image bang for you webspace buck :)

the 18+ thing in the thumb sounds good. I'm sure you can use it as an overlay without using much more webspace. Also would there be an option for admins to create preset categories and the users would need to upload their pictures/art in there, instead of them making all their own little galleries?

Dylanblitz

The admin sets the categories now anyway. You can restrict them from being able to keep albums if that's what you mean.

Doesn't seem to be working for me. Just shows block, but no images. EDIT: Works fine if horizontal rather than vertical used.

In the gallery are we allowed to change the title from 'Dragonbyte Gallery' to our own name? Also the DBTech - Gallery line at the top.

Also for some reason when i upload a 514Kb file it ends up 1.78Mb on the site? Any idea what is wrong there?

Hi there,

Manage to install the mod with no problem.
But when uploading an image, it shows me a big "Image is missing".
I've checked the upload folders and rights are 777 on all subfolders.
I've noticed that owners are "apache" and "root". Is it normal?

Any ideas?

Great job on the gallery. Any chance of a few requests:

> When you search for an image, could you also include the image name below the image like it is shown normally on the index page, etc
> Some statistics on the main gallery page. How many images, categories, views, etc.
> Better pagination, would like to see it the same as the vBulletin thread and board view showing page 1 of 8 and links to others.
> Way to sort the images in each gallery (by name, comments, uploaded, etc)
> When you view an image include the category and link in the breadcrumb.

I would be willing to donate for the above if it could be done, i am using an old forum software and created my own custom gallery with nearly 15,000 images. I managed to import them all to this gallery.

If you want to move where the forumhome block is displayed, in the settings, set Enable Automatic Deployment to No, then edit your FORUMHOME template and put {vb:raw gallery_fh} where you want it to be displayed.

You can replace the orange album picture with something else if you want. Just be sure there is space for the latest image to show. Or if you don't want it to show the album image at all I guess you can try and replace it with a transparent image the same size.

What are you doing when you see this? I have like 20 DBT mods installed on my local dev, thanks included, and I haven't run into an error like this.

With the image upload, double check your instance and make sure the instance has values set for the width/height thumb/full dimensions.

Hi

Install appeared to go OK but on trying to upload image

HTH
Gareth

Did you edit the instance and set the width/height for the thumb/full dimensions? That sounds like what's causing the error.

Are you using a watermark? I resize the image to fit, and add the watermark if it's set to etch. I didn't think it would be that much bigger though. If you want you can send me the image and I'll test it locally to see the size difference.

You can change any of the phrases you want :)

Getting this huge error when I select latest albums in the drop down box..

Upgrade to 1.0.3, it looks like the error that I fixed in the latest release.

Thanks.

No watermarks used for image upload. Before adding it is 514Kb, but once uploaded to the gallery it becomes 1.78Mb. This is the image i am trying to add : http://www.specialforcesroh.com/gallery/file1308.jpg

Is it possibly because the original image is more than the 3020 pixels high and my limit is 3000 pixels so it is re-sizing it, but losing the compression.

If you set it to vertical, does it not work or just shows but messed up looking? If it's messed up looking, can you take a screenshot and send it? It's working on my dev so I'm not sure what the problem is and "doesn't work" isn't descriptive enough :)

Yes it looks like it's losing the compression. I have it set to max quality. If you want to see what it's like, try changing the setting.

Open
dbtech/gallery/includes/class_core.php

Find
imagejpeg($destination_image_handle, $new_name, 100);and change it to something like
imagejpeg($destination_image_handle, $new_name, 75);That reduced the size down to 363k for me and I can't tell the difference between it and the 100 one. If that works, I'll add a setting in the next version for the admin to specify the quality on JPG images

Could you add an option to put the address of the image instead of importing the image from our pc.?

Could you create a widget cms to see the parade pictures ?

Is there a way I can align your copyright or make it all in white? I ask this earlier in the thread but think it has got lost.

Also when viewing who's online it tells me that the person is viewing main gallery (if I click on the link) it tells me I don't have permissions to view?

Noticed a small bug. If you have text in the image description page it loses the line breaks if you edit the image.

For example if i put this:
Picture taken September 2002
By Person Name

When edited it becomes this:
Picture taken September 2002 By Person Name

Even if you show the line breaks on the edit screen they disappear.

EDIT: Looks like the description is not updated at all when i press save. Tried entering different text, but it doesn't update.

I just added v1.1.1

Included in the v1.1.0 release:

Added - Mass import of images from the ACP
Added - Import from vB Albums and vB Gallery
Added - Hide comment block on image view if no comments have been made
Added - Image blocks under gallery home categories
Added - Custom Fields!

With custom fields you can add as many fields you want to the image page. The types of fields you can add are:
Single line text field
Multi line text field
Select Dropdown field
Multiple checkboxs field
Multiple radio button field
The name of the custom field can either be a phrase (for multi lingual sites) or the text itself.

With the Mass ACP import, simply ftp your images to a folder inside of you gallery uploads folder. For instance, on my dev system, my images are at root/gallery_images. I added a folder root/gallery_images/uploaded and put all my images in there.

If the nav is auto generated (If you're on 4.1.x or 4.2 and didn't manually creat the tab), if they do not have permission to view the gallery then they shouldn't see the tab.

MySQL Error : Unknown column 'import_id' in 'where clause'
Error Number : 1054Also lost my watermarks. "watermark text" is still displayed on images though i never changed my settings and my .png watermark was working properly

Sorry about that. I was a bit overzealous checking my variables I guess.

Thanks for the reply, I've uploaded your newest version and tried the Gallery Import, getting the following error:

I would like to import all are old images into the Gallery, is this possible with an old mod we used on our old vB3, now vB4 this mod no longer works but all the images are still there. The old mod was by Beebi.

Cheers
Dave

Also getting this after we updated, if you click on the Unknown Location, it loads up a dbtgallery.php file to save:

Sorry, I'll fix the unknown location. It's trying to download the image the user is viewing. Need to fix the bug in the importer anyway. The fix for the importer for vB Albums is in the post above.

For the Beebi mod, I'd need to take a look at the files and structure of it.

btw, I changed the password but you might want to edit your post and remove the login info to your board and your IP address and that info. Best to send that info through PM's.

Dylan

Awesome work. :) The description editor works fine now.

Small bug in template dbtech_gallery_view_image_comment_bits_vb

Missing " in this line:

Another small one:
If you try to delete a custom field via the admin-cp i get this error:

PM on its way...

I updated your files but you didn't give me the htaccess info so I couldn't get into admin. You should be able to do it yourself now though. Just run the importer again, select Yes to delete previous attempt (got that working now) and it should import them.

Sorry it took me a few tries to get that working guys.

For anyone else that wants to import vB Album and has already downloaded 1.1.2, I did a hotfix on the package. Just download the package again and reupload the files. No import on the xml is necessary.

I'm adding the ability to add images from other sites, but the images will be brought in locally. I don't think we'll be adding the option to display images while they are hosted on 3rd party sites.

Hi Guys

Getting this error when viewing pics through the gallery.

Dave

Is that when you click the next button to view the next page of images? It looks like you have a broken image in there. I'll check my code and see if there's a way to bypass that error so it doesn't break the software.

I can't access your site right now. Not sure if it's down or if it's my connection. I'm out of town on vacation with the family right now.

Ok after a few silly installation problems (all my fault) I read through all of the comments but couldn't see this reported.
In IE Pictures set to 1024 x 1024 are set nicely but unusually Firefox 14.01 allows the picture to bleed over the stats on the side. (See the two attachments I've uploaded).
Also could I confirm that the url for the gallery is as follows as I don't use the VB menu system

hi there why do i get this error

The installation script created the folders for the default instance but the directory is not writeable. You will need to fix the permissions on the folders for the product to work correctly. Please check the permissions on the dbtech/gallery/images/upload/ and dbtech/gallery/images/upload/1 folders. Once you fix the permissions you can verify that future instances will be created correctly by checking the Image Upload Path in the ACP settings Gallery Image Options area. This is also the location that needs to be changed if you want to modify the file location.

i did chmod the folders to 777 can u tell me plz... im usin vb 4 .2 thankyou

dbtgallery.php?do=gallery_image&id=8&gal=gallery&type=full

I'll look and see if I can figure out the overflow problem, I'm not seeing that on my local dev system.

hi there why do i get this error

The installation script created the folders for the default instance but the directory is not writeable. You will need to fix the permissions on the folders for the product to work correctly. Please check the permissions on the dbtech/gallery/images/upload/ and dbtech/gallery/images/upload/1 folders. Once you fix the permissions you can verify that future instances will be created correctly by checking the Image Upload Path in the ACP settings Gallery Image Options area. This is also the location that needs to be changed if you want to modify the file location.

i did chmod the folders to 777 can u tell me plz... im usin vb 4 .2 thankyou

Is it in the default location or did you move the upload folder? If it's 777 on the folder and it's child folders it should work ok.

Just one more thing I noticed that the Facebook like doesn't post the picture to Facebook or a link back. Only a link back to the main website.

Yes, at first I wanted to get a basic integration going. Posting the image or link back to the specific image involves all kinds of API integration with facebook that I didn't want to get into until after the base gallery was working good :)

Is there any way of setting it so when you click on the gallery tab, it goes straight to latest albums, rather than categories ?

Right now no, I'll look at making it an option to open to one of the main page select options in the next version.

For now though, if you want to hack it...
Edit the instance and set it to display images instead of categories

open dbtech/gallery/modules/gallery/actions/main.php

Where it says

$sort = $vbulletin->GPC['sort'] ? $vbulletin->GPC['sort'] : 'latest';change it to

$sort = $vbulletin->GPC['sort'] ? $vbulletin->GPC['sort'] : 'album';Dylan

Just added v1.1.3 which fixes the following:

Fixed - Hidden albums not being hidden
Fixed - vB Gallery importer not importing all images
Fixed - missing image killing next/previous buttons

I also put in a ACP maintenance section to remove orphaned image db entries.

Yes, I changed the code so it wouldn't break the gallery if you have a missing image. Now you can navigate past it, but it's still there so you can see that it needs to get fixed.

I've just been spending the past few hours trying to figure out why my server was suddenly using 4.5GB of HTTP bandwidth a day.
Turns out that a bot had registered and instigated uploads to the gallery. Because the default upload image size is set to unlimited it left me with a rather nasty loss of bandwidth.
Further more I cannot see a way to adjust the bandwidth to lower it to a more reasonable upload size.
Could this be sorted in the next release please?

I'm sorry about the problems :(
Putting a per image size limit wouldn't really work. PHP is server side and it would need to upload the file to check the size, which would use the bandwidth regardless.
The only thing I can think of doing is adding a per usergroup bandwidth limit per day/week. Once they hit the limit they wouldn't get the option to upload anymore. I'll see what I can do about getting that in the next version.

....I just thought of another idea I'll think about trying. I can add an option in the acp so you can set any images to go to a moderator group on delete. Then the moderators can check if the image is associated with anything before either physically deleting it or leaving it as non visible in the gallery but still available for links.

There is a problem with editing/deleting other users images. If you set the usergroup settings to Is Admin it will allow them to, but obviously you don't want to do that for non admin groups :)
I should have a new release tomorrow night which will fix that problem.

If you have permissions to do it, you wll have a pencil next to the title on the New Style and an edit button in the top right on the vB Style

Yes, the next version has the option in the settings to soft delete images. If it is soft deleted it will not show up in the browse, search, user profile. The image will still be in linked threads and you can view the image if you directly link to it.

There is a section in the ACP to view the deleted images and either physically delete or reactivate them or obviously leave them alone :)

If you are getting an error that the upload directory can't be written to try setting the dbtech/gallery/images/upload/ folder to 777 permissions. If that still doesn't work I'd need to get an admin account and ftp permissions to troubleshoot futher.

Yes, there is an importer for photopost gallery. There were a few small bugs still being worked out of it when I used it about a week ago. With the help of the DBTech staff I was able to get mine imported from vbGallery without too much hassle. I don't believe they have released the latest version with importer bugs fixed yet, but if I was to guess it would be coming within days.

I'm sure the DBTech staff will chime in before too long on the current status of the importer.

Nice! Thank you bzcomputers for you answer. I've a question for you: you have used both software, what do you think is better Photopost or DB Gallery?

I would say shortly they will be on par with each other and very soon after that, Dragonbyte Gallery will be the leader.

...this is just one man's opinion

Photopost vbGallery
Photopost has been around for years with their product and it has had time to mature and is a pretty clean and refined product now. Photopost works well but can be a little intimidating setting it up and tweaking it to get it the way you want it. On the other side the support for vbGallery I have found to be almost non-existent. If you have an idea or an issue, don't hold your breath on getting it fixed/implemented. Their updates are few and far between and don't expect any new features/additions in the lifetime of your product license - they will most likely not be coming. I believe Photopost became complacent because up until now competition was lacking, especially on the vBulletin side for galleries.

Dragonbyte Gallery
Dragonbyte Gallery is a new product. From it's initial release just two months ago to the current product I think it has come a long way. The initial setup is much more straight forward (as compared to Photopost) and user friendly enough even for a novice. Support is second to none (as is with all Dragonbyte products from my experience). Every suggestion and comment made to them is truly taken into consideration. Their implementation of bug fixes, tweaks and additional features seems to be continual. The only thing that I believe holding Dragonbyte Gallery back at this point is the lack in number of users and good feedback, since it is such a new product. My suggestion is to jump on board and give it a run - I don't think you will be disappointed, this product is going places! Use it, let them now what you like and don't like. The more feedback they get, the better the product we all will get.

Like I said at the top, I believe it is almost inevitable the way things are going that the true leader in vBulletin gallery software will soon be Dragonbyte Gallery.

Thanks for the kind words bzcomputers :)

With that I have a new release heh.

This release adds a number of requested features and will increase the useability of the product. This is a signifigant feature release so consider it beta until it goes gold. I am leaving the 1.1.3 version on here in case someone wants to stick with the stable version until the 1.2.x series is considered stable.

There are a number of configuration items that will need to be done after the installation to utilize some of the new features.

Included in v1.2.1:
Fixed - Left/Right CSS specifications
Fixed - Users with permissions to delete others images not being able to edit and delete images
Added - username to search
Added - sort by username on gallery front page
Added - options to disable links on view image
Added - option to move info to hover text on gallery thumbs
Added - cinema dimmer
Added - enlarge image inline
Added - Instance Option between pagenav with physical page load or nav buttons with ajax load
Added - ACP Setting to use either physical image or hidden link for thumbnails
Added - Add links to Youtube videos with thumbnail and info
Added - Upload image from URL
Added - Ability to upload and display swf and flv flash files
Added - ACP options to select type of files allowed
Added - ACP option to require link to source files for url added images
Added - option to have notifications on comments and new images through vB notifications instead of PM
Added - ACP Setting to have images soft delete so they wont break attached/linked images
Added - ACP option to permanently remove soft deleted images
Added - Icon to popup image selector in post editor
Added - Permissions to be able to manually create nav manager entries
Added - Next/Previous images next to image on view image to ease navigation (optional on/off from ACP)
Changed - Navbit to display Viewing Image: {Image title}

Some things to configure after installation:

**Important** You need to edit the Gallery Instance in the ACP and set the type of images you want allowed to upload. Until you set this nothing can be uploaded.

If you allow users to upload images from a url you might want to specify that the source link be displayed to save yourself copyright problems
Settings -> Gallery Image Settings -> URL Images display source link

You also might want to instruct your users to set their max visible image size. This will set the size of the image when viewing it. This helps on forums that have a fixed width style and users with a low resolution setting.
Gallery -> My Profile -> Edit My Information -> View Image Width

The option to be notified of new images and comments is in the same Edit My Information section

I hope you all enjoy the new version and thanks for the suggestions!

I've had some users report the same problem. I can't replicate it on my dev but I made some changes to try and fix it. I'll have a new version out in the next day or two that should fix it as well as a few other issues.

It will have the option for the admin to set the default max width in each style, then the user can select their max width in their profile and then it will compare those to the actual image width and use the smallest of the three.

Hi all and hi dylan from Dragonbyte,

I run Vbulletin 4.1.5

i bought the PRO Version from the gallery yesterday.
after fighting a night long to keep the most running well :)

But i have some very important problems to resolve. :(

1. Password protection doesnt work, it works if click on the album yes, but it doesnt work on the pictures out from the album showing at latest pictures gallery home.
When you clickt them you can enlarge it and view it.

2. Add to favorites doesnt work, it still does nothing, counter says 0 after click it and profile dont have any favs saved.

3. cant moderate pictures, if i like to delete pictures from other users i got this message "We are sorry but you do not have permissions to edit this image. Please speak with the administrator if you feel this is an error"
(have set all to yes on usergroup admin options on the ACP)

4. An important option where i wish there is an solution .
Is it possible to link the albums to the VB user profiles like VB gallery ?
Profile visitors have to see if this member has albums up.

Please its really important, otherwise it was wasted money for me and the gallery is useless. :(

Thanks so much, overall a really nice add on ,

I have a question about importing files from another gallery mod.

Years ago the previous forum owner had purchased PhotoPlog Pro as a gallery for the 3.8 version of our forum. However, a few months ago it quit working but we had plans to buy and install vb4.2, which we did.

We're looking to install another gallery, such as this one, but we'd like to be able to import all those pictures that were a part of the PhotoPlog gallery, and was wondering if this is possible, and if so, if it's possible to keep the same photo permissions. There's quite a few photos that only certain groups were able to view and I'd hate to import those photos and all of a sudden everybody on the whole forum would be able to see them.

The delete error is something that will be fixed in the next version. Did you try editing the usergroup itself and setting the gallery Is Mod? setting to yes? It should allow you to edit/delete other users images if that is set.

I'm not sure why you'd be getting triplicates of the images. Could you give me a temp account that has access to both the gallery and albums?

Unfortunately I haven't used photoplog so I don't know what the table structure is like. It would be hard to import without access to the files and database layout.

As far as protection, there is no usergroup image level protection. The only protection setup is password protected albums and usergroup level categories. You could setup categories that only certain usergroups can see and move the images into there before you put it online.

Hi Dylan,

I am truly sorry :o I swore I read all the posts on your mod. I was not aware about the add to the usergroups. I set it to yes and it's working fine, BUT I did notice if I want to change that persons album location I'm editing it only shows my albums to choose from and not everybody's.

I'll look for the delete fix in the next release and thank you. :)

I would be more than happy to give you site access but after hours of trying to import via the Gallery Import I gave up and downloaded everybody's pics manually, recreated their albums and FTP pics to folder 1 and used the ACP Mass Import feature to send the pics to the correct albums and categories.
So as it stands I've worked around my issue and wont be importing large amounts of pics at anyone time.

I've fixed the next version so that it will display the users albums and not yours when you edit another users image.

Thanks Dylan for your reply and fix. I found some other bugs but will wait for your next release to see if they have been corrected.

Dylan

Thank you! This is an amazing modification. I appreciate all the effort.

Just installed this and it's looking good but ........

Everything seemed to install OK and I went through the settings and then was able to access the gallery. So far so good.

I then created a category and album, then tried to upload a couple of pics into the album.

This BTW was done as Administrator.

When I tried to upload I got a page full of error messages. I've pasted some examples below, what do you think the problem might be?

Warning: imagecreatetruecolor() [function.imagecreatetruecolor]: Invalid image dimensions in [path]/dbtech/gallery/includes/class_core.php on line 771

Warning: imagecolorallocate() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in [path]/dbtech/gallery/includes/class_core.php on line 779

Thanks.
