View Full Version : Integrated Photo Gallery Hack??

I've searched and researched some of the gallery hacks here and they look good, although I'd prefer one that doesn't store the images in the database. I can live with that if I can find one that I can make limit viewing of certain galleries based on which usergroup a user is in.
I'm going to be setting up a small portion of my boards for my family to use and would like to create a set of photo galleries for my family to use.
I'm starting to learn php so I may attempt this hack myself, but if anyone has experience in this this newbie would greatly appreciate it! TIA!

I have this in my to do list for my site... which is going to take me awhile, with all the things that is going on... but it was going to be a three level photo gallery... where the main gallery has all the images split up into groups and each user has his own folder or sub category, and they have the choice to make it viewable by everyone, members only, or private gallery for them selves...
also intergrated to show a mini-gallery in their profile for people just viewing their account... kind of the way I have it setup now.. just way more advanced.
I know it will take me some time, cause there is some things I am just not totally familiar with ... but it should look great when I am done lol
I've found it here but i dont know how it'k work.
If you succed i need help :)

Since there is nothing "out of the box" that will do this, I decided to work on my own solution. I found a great gallery calledGallery (http://www.menalto.com/projects/gallery/index.php) which supports multiple galleries and multiple albums within each gallery. It also supports permissions per gallery and per-album, does thumbnails, etc.
I read yesterday that a new version was recently released that worked with phpNuke and since I'm running the beta of vbPortal (the nuke port for vB) I decided to install it and see what happened. The good news is that it only took me about 4 hours to get it hacked in, the bad news is that I don't know if it works without having vbPortal installed.
I still have a couple more things to do, and I am also going to attempt to hack in UserGroup based permissions as well, but since I'm new to how vB works and PHP in general that may take a bit longer. I have a couple more things to cleanup in the code as well, then I'd be willing to post it for anyone who is interested in working on it.

Status update:
Gallery is now working fine under vbPortal 3 but a few things need to be finished yet, mainly in the permissions selection areas. I'm designing this to work under vbPortal, but I see no reason someone couldn't modify my hacks to work with stright vBulletin. In fact, I may even give that a shot myself when I'm finished.
I'll release it as soon as I finish the user permissions panel problem.

Here's my attempted add-on for Gallery to make it work with vB/vbPortal. You will have to make a small hack to get it working in straight vB though.
See this thread (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28890) for details.

Check out PhotoPost -- it uses the VBulletin user DB:
http://www.techimo.com/photopost/index.html
It stores images on disk, BTW.

On disk as opposed to?
I'm also looking at TechIMO Photopost, but it's really more than I have in my budget for this right now since I'm not sure yet if my members will really use it. Therefore, I'm also thinking about attempting to integrate Gallery...

im working on one right now that limits how many attachment a user and upload. they keep them in their own account. they can add or remove attachments from their user control panel or when they are making a post

Thanks HideoutGuy, I'm going to check out your mod. I was all ready to buy PhotoPost but since the price has gone up to $140 *gasp* I'm going to stick with something a little cheaper.

Err...all we need is vbPhotoPost Free, and we got ourselves one heck of an image gallery system.

Well, PhotoPost is 12,000+ lines of very optimized PHP code. The team of developers that creates and supports the product has to eat. Why is it okay to pay for a good forum but not a good gallery? If someone wants to write a hack that does the same thing as photopost, be prepared to not sleep for the next 5 months.. :)
Anyway, it really is a great product and it's getting better every day. vBulletin is the best forum out there IMO, and PhotoPost compliments it well.

Do you have a tutorial to integrate it into VB?

I have PhotoPost and it is fine for what it does, it is very easy to install and use as an accessory to your vB forum. However, it is mostly a supplement and really doesn't provide an environment where users post photos and the results are viewable, searchable and commentable from within vB. It's much more like having a separate forum that shares the vB userbase.
Whatever happened to this Image Gallery thing? It walks and talks like an integrated vBulletin photopost:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21602
Somebody has it running here on a chinchilla site. It generates thumbnails and when you can navigate easily to the specific thread where the image appears by clicking the word POST.

Do not click if you are annoyed by extreme cuteness. I can barely stomach it myself!

But the Problem is that if you want to use Photo Post you "must have" installed image magick! I asked my host (puretec). They sayed there is noting like this installed, and there is no way to install it extra for me....

Well actually Kars10, if you go to the photopost website, you can add imagemagick without having root access, its pretty cool....check it out
Peace
