View Full Version : Apache Spiking (Paying for a fix)

Ok so I've had this problem from 4.1.12 to 4.2, my Apache CPU usage is spiking weirdly (Like 6 people connecting = a denial of service)
I've moved servers (first was a 1.8Ghz Dual core AMD with 6gb ram, current is a 3.4Ghz i7 with 2GB ram (manages slightly better obviously) but still unusable.
The plugins I have installed are: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2012/06/30.jpg
I'm leaning toward it being a shoutbox problem, but I've used multiple shoutboxes including vbshout and inferno, all of which work perfectly on other sites.
If anyone is willing to help me out, I'm more than willing to pay you :)

Hate to say it but if all that can connect is 6 users, that's a total server configuration problem. Not a problem with vBulletin.
And 2GB of memory isn't very much to work with. My site uses 2.2GB on average (including the MySQL and PHP caches).

I think you should re-read the post.
I've had 2 servers (same problem on each)
The issue is CPU based.
It's a problem with vBulletin/plugins.

OK, well if that's what you think. Try disabling all mods and see if the number of users that can log in goes up or not.

It's not what I think.. It's what I know.. how can you question the obvious? If I have two perfectly fine servers that have handled multiple vB 3.x and 4.x forums simultaneously in the past, averaging 2400 members online at a time, why would they suddenly fail on a new installation of 4.2?

Listen, you asked for help.
If you don't want to try disabling your mods to see if things improve, that's up to you.
But, many are running vB 4.2 with no problems and a total of 6 people being able to log on points to a server problem. Especially if it continues with all mods disabled.
If you want to dismiss what I suggest, that's fine. But please skip the attitude when you're the one looking for help.
With that, I'll bow out and let you and others find the problem without suggesting another thing.

Why are you telling me I asked for help? I know I asked for help, I wrote the thread..
I dismissed your suggestions as I've already tried all of the obvious 'solutions', and posting here as a last resort.

Did you try temporarily disabling or uninstalling shoutbox? It may be that it worked fine before but now has a problem with vb4.2.0.
(BTW, if you want to pay someone to help you, you should post in the "Requests for Paid Services" forum).

Had it disabled for most of today, it was recoded by JB from p0wersurge, and he runs 4.2 on his own forum with no issues :/ Although I'm leaning toward it being the shoutbox as well.

check your mycnf file...etc, it may have been since an upgrade the number of simultaneous connections or max connections may be too low, also check that persistant connections in mysql is turned off.
