How come when I make a thread on my forums, I have to login to my SEO account and resubmit a sitemap and it will appear within a few days...but on other forums, the moment I post that same thread it appears immediately on Google Search?

What gives?

How do I have this magic?

It's nothing to do with SEO it's to do with how often the search engines are crawling your site and indexing it, the fact that you are submitting a new site map makes it readily available to the search engines rather than having to spider all over your site to find it.

How busy/popular is your site?

EDIT: scratch that, i just checked, your site is brand new, you've got a lot of work ahead of you in order to get indexed like you're expecting ;)

Thanks for the explanation Mr. Simon

I am contemplating whether this plugin is worth buying or not since vB4 contains friendly URLs by default?

Do you think it's really worth the cash? and is this a 1 time payment only or do I have to pay each year?

thanks

BTW, when you buy and install this plugin, do you still need to insert the correct tags when posting a thread or is that done automatically by the plugin?

Because I see on the popular forums, they don't even have the option to add tags yet you still see the threads on Google instantly when a thread is posted... do you think they also must be using this plugin and it does this automatically for each thread / post?

Spend more time/money/effort on writing good content. It is by far and large the most important thing.

Any major changes to your url structure will have a fairly large impact in your SEO shortterm and unknown impact on longterm.

I'm 4 years in now and it's been tough going getting it where it is now, whatever you decide to do you must stick with it, the like of Google...etc now are changing tack on how they index sites...etc and friendly urls are not all they were made out to be 4 years ago or so, instead you're ranked for your content, unique content, ease of navigation......etc

So, work on your content, post at other similar websites with helpful material and link to you forum in your signature with a decent anchor text thats not over subscribed, my site is to do with microsoft office, originally i wanted to use "Excel VBA" as my anchor text, it was way over subscribed and competed for, so instead i went for "Microsoft Office Help" and after all the microsoft owned sites im the very next one in google, i also used "Microsoft Office discussion" and now im page 1 pos.4, now that i'm established with those i've been working on getting recognised for the original keyword i wanted and am now page 1 pos.6 for it (googles results vary from place to place and different times), so what im saying is work at it at a lower level and build up then you'll get your immediate indexing :)

Have you configured robots.txt, esp to point to the site map XML ?

Have you setup a Google webmaster account and submitted your site details?

Do these ASAP!

FYI We have 99+% of our site indexed and come up 1st after a commercial site when you google 'Australian Photography'

How do I configure the robots.txt?

I didn't setup a google webmaster account I just check for google blacklist using the built in SEO Tools from my HostGator account, then I submit a sitemap and verify it....anything else I should do?

Search these forums or google for a vbulletin robots.txt and then modify it to your needs.
