Force users to choose Avatar at Registration

Hey all, I have noticed that there was such a mod created for 3.8 however developer stopped supporting it sometime in 2009.

I believe if you engage users to customise their profile during registration by forcing them to choose avatar and so on would potentially bring them back again and again.

I was hoping that someone with will and some time would be able to re-create this plugin as I am sure it will be very popular here.

It would be easy to redirect the user at the "edit avatar" page and he can't use the forum until he doesn't choose an avatar otherwise is more difficult

Couldn't that portion of the profile setting for choosing an avatar be pasted into the registration form and made non-optional during reg?
