View Full Version : Show Thread Enhancements - Advanced New Thread Button in Showthread

Description:
This hack adds a 'Post New Thread' button to the showthread script. Simply put, when a user is viewing a thread they are given the option to quickly jump to the New Post Editor and begin creating a new post. As well as this, it allows Administrators to control who has access to the feature and can be disabled for certain user-groups and individual users.

Installation Instructions:
To install simply import the attached adv_new_thread_button.xml file. Then you're done.

Changelog:
28/05/2012 - Version 1.20:
- Fixed the bug that prevented users from correctly excluding forums. (Thanks to borbole)
28/05/2012 - Version 1.10:
- Added the ability to exclude individual forums.
- Fixed variable names.
27/05/2012 - Version 1.00:
- Initial release.

Notes:
There is another version of this modification released by testbot however his version does not include the permissions like mine does. His thread can be viewed here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=258983).

I'm always looking to improve my work for the people that enjoy using it. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve this hack then please leave a comment and I'll see what I'm able to do. Don't forget to 'Mark As Installed' if you've got it installed!

Thanks for a real fast update on this - 1.10 is working fine :)

Maybe I was a bit too fast - checked that the new thread button was not present in the forums excluded. Unfortunately, I noticed moments later, not in any other forums not on the excluded list?

Ah, I noticed that too. My mistake, I'll fix it asap. For now, I recommend you leave the field blank or revert to Version 1.0.

Sorry about that.

EDIT: Version 1.20 is out and fixes the bug.

I was thinking about improving this a bit by adding new features of some sort related to the mod.

Anything you guys would like to see?

This needs to go somewehre like in the NAV BAR...with a dropdown of forum names they want to put their thread in..

The modification was mean't to be a slightly better version of this one (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=258983). But I will consider a more practical approach to what you have suggested.

Thanks

Your welcome sir and thank you for marking as installed.

Well thats cool.

I think users should be able to create a thread in any forum from anywhere.

On thread creation they would simply select the forum where their thread should be from a dropdown. Then throw the new thread link in the nav bar...

Anyway, cool.

Thx.

I'd also be interested in the general button on all pages, that when you click, gives you some form of drop-down to select a category.
