View Full Version : Plugins not installing - HELP!

Hi,
I have been running the forums for year... flawlessly.
Installed plug-ins work fine. (kind of)
What drew me to this issue was I noticed one day when I went to go and use a plugins functionality the options surrounding it were missing.
In particular was the vbsponsors plug in. On the "edit forum" page where I can put in the options all the settings were gone.
So I started poking around and seeing what the issue may be and I noticed that now when I go to add a plugin now it does not install. It appears to install but no options are present for the plugin and it is not working.
(I tried this with SEVERAL plug-ins) so it isn't the particular plug-in... it is all of them.
Trying to diagnose, I disabled a plug-in and re-enabled... and it won't re-enable. I lost all of that plug-ins functionality.
I tried re-installing the plug in and it is not installing.
I have no idea what I did to cause this or where to even start looking.
Can anyone help me?
I am baffled and have no idea what to do. The plugins that I am trying to get installed and re-installed are critical for the forums and I really need some help.

Step 1) I would go to Diagnostics in the Admin CP and run a suspect file check. If any files don't contain expected contents I would upload a fresh copy of the files.
Next would be to check the database tables to make sure none are listed as crashed.

Thanks for the reply Joe.
I ran the Diagnostics like you suggested and there is actually a lot there.
Not sure how to make heads or tails of it all.
Is it safe to put the contents of the scan in this thread or could I show you privately somehow?
I will also have my hosting company look at the database.

If you have a lot of mods there would be a number of "file not recognized..." messages. Those aren't a big deal so much.
The main thing to look out for is "File does not contain expected contents" that means an original vb file has been edited or damaged. (or updated by a patch)
If you can post a list of any of those files, there is no security risk...

Thanks for the reply,
Running the diagnostics again, I see that there are a couple "file does not contain... " but they are all inside the VBSEO area.
Nothing outside of it.
See attached.

Then go to Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Repair / Optimize Tables
Do any of them mention anything about being crashed- in place of their size?

No
They all report OK

My Hosting company just came back and said that the database looks good.
When checking the logs they see this error quite a bit:
XML error: not well-formed (invalid token) at line 1, column 0
Does this offer any insight?

It would suggest the XML files you are trying to import are possibly damaged or corrupt.
Do you import them off your local computer or do you upload the xml files to your server first and import them that way?
Are you sure when you uploaded your files it was set to upload xml files in ASCII mode? (Not sure how that would stop mods from working though.)
What exact version of VB do you have?

I upload directly from my computer.
I do not pre-upload to the server.
I am running 3.8.7

If you are running 3.8 you should have ticket support- I would suggest opening support ticket at this point so someone can log in to your site and see what is up.
Go to the Member's Area on www.vbulletin.com to open a support ticket.

I tried that and they sent me here to these forums to request help.

When did this issue started to happen for the first time? Did you do any changes to your forum prior to it or it happened out of nowhere?

I am sure I made a change... but a lot of time passed before I needed to re-use one of the plugins that I am now having issues with.
Plugins were working... I just lost all the settable functions of them. They dissapeared from the pages.
PM me a link to your support ticket.
done... many thanks!

Disable your vBOptimize modification and see if you still have the same problem.

If I disable it... the plug-ins work.
Very odd.
Now I just need to figure out how to make that work.. but can live without it for now.
