Hi - I run a website that utilizes Wordpress for its blog and vBulletin for its forum, with the vB database bridged to Wordpress. Our current vB version is 3.8.x
We're looking to unify our site under one complete suite and 4.x is looking like it could possibly be the right solution (the alternative we're considering is using Wordpress + bbPress). We're @ 40,000+ members and get about a million page views a month. I say this only because whatever solution we go with needs to scale well to those numbers (and far beyond). I know vB handles it well but in case someone was insight in to bbPress I thought it was worth a mention.
Anyway, with 4.x having the new blog suite we're looking to upgrade to it, so our blog + forum can all be under the vBulletin umbrella.
I am wondering - hoping - to do a brief listing of features we'd like to implement in to vB 4.x once we upgrade and see what you guys think the implications to the systems would be. If anything stands out as extremely risky, I'd love to hear about it.
Twitter-to-blog post. A feature where our sites Twitter, when it retweets another tweet, it parses the text form the URL in the tweet, and a picture it might have, in to a blog post on our news page. Here's an example of a site doing that: http://paper.li/da_internetg0d/1325274902 This wouldn't be our only way of generating blog posts, we'd also be writing them ourselves. But to fill in slower periods we'd love to be able to feed news to the blog via retweets from our twitter.
Allowing users to choose an option of viewing a forum thread where only the images from the thread are displayed. (Read: in a lightbox format). If a user clicks on an image it goes to that part in the thread which the image was posted. Our site is a 3D art focused one so ease of browsing images is important.
If the above method is possible, we'd love to use a similar system for viewing tagged threads. So people can do a tag search on threads, and only the images from those threads are shown. If they click the image it goes to the thread that the result came from.
Thread title rollover showing the first image posted in a thread. Currently in vB if you mouse over a thread title the first few words from the thread are displayed as a way of previewing what is said. We'd like to do that idea but with the first image posted instead. IF there is no image, then text is displayed.
These are some ideas in a nutshell. I know this post is lengthy so I appreciate the time you've given it already.
