Scheduled tasks and server load

Server load is spiking sometimes, I believe, from queueprocessor or other scheduled tasks. I'm wondering if I can run some tasks more often, so each time it runs, it has less to do? To spread out the work. When the server load goes up, then users see the slowdown for a few minutes.

I already went through all scheduled tasks and spread out them out as best as I could, and reduced the number of times for a few of them which were less important.
