Ok guys and gals i purchased vb early in 4.0.
Merged from another software. Anyway i purchased only the forum option.
At the time i suspected support but there was none. No big deal i dont want to discuss that.
However i have found more and more problems in recent updates and a growing problem of actually being able to resolve these issues. I am not a coder. Far from it. Im a tradie.
My question is this......
Should i pay the small fee to get support and that will fix my problems or...
Should i merge to another system and resolve issues that way?
All my forum really uses is a chatroom and the forums obviously.
SEO is something i would be wanting. Good seo even if its paid like vbseo i would not have a problem but the software would need good SEO.
Security is obviously an issue as is stability.
Beyond that spam is the only other factor i worry about.
Any ideas what direction to take?

What problems are you having?
I run vb4 and don't have ny problems, I basically don't upgrade to the latest version, I find a version via test boards which work and stick with it.
A lot have turned to xenforo but I don't like it, and also am unsure of the future of the software as the owners are still going though hard times, but that's a whole different topic.
I will always stick with vB4, but not always upgrade, as they seem to make more problems with each upgrade than anything more.

Thankyou for the reply New Joe.
Your one i respect on VB.org mate. One of many infact but one for sure.
That was my mistake i think.
I was always of the theory of doing every update to ensure security and function.
I run 4.1.12 now and its the worst upgrade i have ever done with VB or other software.
Seroiusly for me i have countless problems. Resorting to hitting the database to do edits as the CP is failing me.
For some reason i just thoght 4.1.12 was going to solve problems for me not create more.
I have had small problems since i moved to VB truth be told.
Nothing itsself to worry about but collectively i am starting to wonder.
So you think getting the support option and not being as quick to update once my board is running how i like is the answer?
Update... sorry..
The errors.. Well i cant edit the registration template. It freezes on me.
I have a user i cant edit as it freezes.
I have mods i cant uninstall as it freezes.
I have disabled all mods and tried that via the disable hooks but nothing works.

That is strange. I upgraded from 4.1.10 to 4.1.12 and had no errors at all other than 2 of my own mods needed to be updated due to the 2 templates that were removed in the new version. No db errors or any other mod problems at all.

@Rob. Gday mate :)
I believe if you use a prefix then your who is online would not work at the very least.
A thread about one error https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/399404-online-php-errors
Others have the same problem.
Also there is this fix i believe? https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/398902-4-1-12-Feedback-amp-Discussion?p=2281785&viewfull=1#post2281785
And the tracker which i actually have no idea about or how it works.

I downloaded the updated 4.1.12 files today after you gave me that link. I then uploaded all the files to the server again and ran the upgrade script. That fixes those 2 errors. Since I don't use a table prefix, it didn't affect me anyway, but I like to stay up-to-date on things like that, if possible, when I do finally upgrade.

Thanks Rob.
I noticed today they issued another set of files after the Q&A error.
Not via pm or anything like that rather from searching the forums threads to see what is going on.
It just strikes me as odd. A paid team of coders makes mistakes like this.
Wouldnt they test all these prior to release? Isnt that there job actually?
What do i pay for? A software that fails me and i have no support........
Damn it im just upset. Getting a little off my chest before i decide to move to another software.
I mean no offence. I really dont. Im just really frustrated that i cant get help and my problems are mine and mine alone. All i ask for the money i spend is a forum software that works.
Sorry just rambling.
I wont push this issue anymore.
Time for me to move on.
Again respect Rob..... You know that.

I've had a few of those days myself since early vb 4 (the betas). But is does get better. Now you know what I usually wait a few releases before I upgrade and even then I wait a few weeks after a release before I decide if I am going to upgrade. I didn't have a choice this time as it screwed up a couple of my mods that needed fixes for.

It is a good idea to run a test site and do a test upgrade on that site prior to doing it on your live site. That way you can see if you have any big issues.
As for support, ticket support won't help with any modified code. So, if you are needing help with a modification or trying to change templates or something like that, then ticket support would be worthless to you as you would just be told to come here and ask for help.
