View Full Version : Subscriptions to run Classifieds Section?

Hi,

We want to open a classifieds section on our board where users can post an ad for a month for a price of XX dollars.

The ad would be a thread in a special subforum. Obviously I want everyone on the forum to see the section, but I don't want an advertiser to be able to freely post ad-after-ad and new thread-after-new thread in that subforum. So 1 subscription per month equals 1 thread.

I've read through the section in the manual: https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/subscriptions

My problem is that it looks as if that will let a usergroup post unlimited threads in the subforum and may not allow regular users to view the subforum.

Does anyone have any advice on the best way to set up what I'm looking for? If not, no big deal, I'll fire it up in a support ticket :) Just thought I'd try here first. :)

Thanks,
GOY

AFAIK, there is no native way in vB for limiting the posts of a usergroup, in a certain forum, to a certain number per month.

I think your best bet would be to open up a forum that is only visible to subscribers, where they could post their thread. Upon approval, you could move the thread to the public classifieds section.

If you wanted something cleaner, I think it would have to be custom code.

Can't be custom coded. Well, it COULD be, but I doubt it.

There's hundreds and possibly thousands of Vbulletin forums that have paid for classified sections. It's actually what drew me TO vbulletin and away from IPB or phpBB...

Should I start posting examples to jog some memories? Would that help or hurt the cause?

Not trying to be confrontational at all. I know that a classifieds section like WarriorForum's would be custom coded, but not all can be since they run in basically the same manner.

We've been running Classified mods for several years now, and I think they all did basically "post an ad for a month for a price of XX dollars".

Alas, currently the only working mod left is ppclassifieds (http://www.photopost.com/class/). It's working for us.
