Show Recent posts in forum list?

Hi, I have been searching for days, but cant come up with what I am looking for.

I am looking to add on the forum home, on top of the list of forums, recent posts from all forums.
Maybe 4-5 tops?

I think it will encourage activity overall, and people would miss less posts that are on the lower categories.

is there away to automatically run a search on page load?

maybe the new posts search can be called on the top portion of the page?
