Hi,

Im looking for a dedicated server that i'd personally like it to be hosted in UK, It needs to be i guess really fast as their will always be around 100-150 users online, Doesn't have to have a huge hard drive, something along the lines of 30gb-60

Any ideas who to go with?
Ross

We bought this the other day and it seems to be working very well! They have expensive plans aswel as value plans,

We bought the Intel Core i7 860 QC 2.8Ghz which is 199$ per month. It is hosted in the USA but I live in Ireland and the connection is really good also they offer cisco ddos protection.

Am I the only one who feels you don't need a dedicated for 100-150 co-current users?

Nope. A good VPS is all they would need.

If you can manage your own VPS, go with linode.com

I've been with them for 6 months now...I constantly have around 100 users online and my forum is heavily modded. I'm also on their smallest plan...

Haven't had any downtime or any issues. They know how to manage their nodes and you won't get a slow VPS like with other companies. Their prices are a bit higher than other companies, but it's worth it.

a good 75$/m VPS is all you need... sure your webmaster will love to work on a dedicated, he trills to have one...

This is going off topic a bit, but why on earth anyone would use a VPS at $75/m or more when fully dedicated servers are available from $29 to $99 a month is beyond me. ;)

Where?

I've changed hosts a few times now. My current VPS is really fast for the price, but support could be better.

Edit: I checked out the hostinganddesign servers. Pretty damn cheap, but in this business, you get what you pay for. I'd love to see a follow-up a few months down the road.

I should also add, if you're sort of new to web-hosting, having a good support contact is pure gold. When crap hits the fan, and everything's all broken, nothing better than having someone reliable to help out. That's my 2 cents, anyway.

The servers I speak of aren't for the light hearted or uneducated in network operations. They are completely unmanaged, which means you are handed a server and you are on your own. Probably the biggest provider of these types of servers is server4you.

But as I said, you are handed a blank server and everything from the operating system to the security of the server is up to you. There is no support for scripts from those providers.

There are however many people that do the management aspect of servers for somewhat minor fees where the total of the server and the fees is very often less than the cost of a VPS.
