View Full Version : Theme Reviews for KH-MediaFlare

I read the rules before creating this.
Anyway, to start off, this doesn't have to be done all at once, of course, but I would like a review of the themes I've created for KH-MediaFlare. There are only three that aren't mine, but I have fixed them up, and those are Kingdom Hearts, Oblivion, and Darkness. All of the others are mine, with the exception of the vB default, of course.
Thank in advance to everyone for their time, and feel free to make suggestions if you think a certain style could use improvement. Guests are able to view pretty much everything (index, forums, threads, profiles, etc.), so there shouldn't be any restriction problems.
So here's a link to the forum, and the style chooser can be found at the bottom.
Thanks, guys!

Edit: Sorry about that. I forgot to make the themes viewable for guests. They should now be viewable.

Mediocre themes, sorry to be so blunt.
Rather than making over a dozen of themes, with stylvar color changes you should either;
a) Buy premium themes
b) Use the premade themes found in the Style section
c) Custom Theme (Which you can't go wrong with)
Make the forum feel like a KH forum, not just that daily vB default install forum. Give members what they need.
TBQH I'd scrap all themes, I'd use a premade theme and either find someone to do a banner or make a banner myself that atleast should have a render or two of KH fans, I'd also google for the KH logo and use them for the forum status icons.
My 3 cents :P

We had a banner, but it disappeared after upgrading from 4.1.10 to 4.1.11, like always.

Have to agree with Sage too many themes and kind of bland if you will. I would suggest as Sage has and try to get a custom theme designed along with a nice logo to go with it. There are plenty of great affordable designers here who will design what you want but also give it that look to stand out on it's own. Right now when I view the themes I see deafult vbulletin themes slightly altered. Good luck with your site.

I'm not quite understanding. Aren't all forums like that?
Take a look at these other forums that I visit, for example:
SEGA Forum (http://forums.sega.com/index.php)
KH-Vids.Net Forum (http://www.kh-vids.net/forum.php)
Final Fantasy Shrine Forum (http://forums.ffshrine.org/)

Not all forums No. If you take a look at mine in my signature you will find I had a custom theme designed. Also there are others that are custom designed such as
http://www.gnd-tech.com/
http://www.twinkinfo.com/twink-info-forums/
http://wlsjourney.org/ Note** this is vbulletin 3 series however she is a designer and you can visit here site and view her custom vbulletin 4 designs http://jacquiidesigns.com/#all
Some of those may be premium paid templates altered to fit their niche but they are still very appealing to the eyes.
Hope this helps out

Isn't editing through the Style Variable Editor considered designing?

Sure it is to an extent. I'm merely giving my opinion as you have asked us to by posting this thread. What you ultimately decide to do with your site is obviously completely up to you as it should be. I am just trying to offer some advice. All the best to you and your site.

Of course, I'm not offended at all. I'm just curious.

You got to put some soul in to it. Some passion. Some fire. Simple color changes are so blah.
Sit down and go through the stylevars and see what you can do with them besides just color changes. Visit W3C schools and bone up on some simple CSS and HTML. I've got them in my favorites list. They don't always have an answer but at the least they'll get you going in the right direction. And there's Google. There's lots of how to's out there.
And of course there's here.
Use your imagination. Get creative...
