View Full Version : certain posts go to moderation, can't figure why
Hi, according to what I read here and at vb.com, there is no permissions for new posts with links in them to be sent to moderation. Yet that appears to be happening with my new users. If their post has a link, it goes to moderation, if it doesn't have a link, it does not.
It's driving me crazy trying to figure out what permission is causing these posts to go into moderation. It's probably something silly that I just am not seeing but would appreciate someone pointing out to me what I can't seem to see?
Thanks!

Sounds like it's a add-on, a anti-spam measure.
You can disable the plugin/hooks option, then test this.
I was suspecting that it might be a setting in my spam add-on. The only spam plug-in I have is GlowHost Spam-o-matic. Is there by chance a setting in there somewhere that might be causing it or am I going to have to do away with the plugin completely, so you know? I looked and looked but didn't see it.
Thanks!

Test it by turning off the plugin/hooks system completely, then register a new account and try to post a link.
If it does appear to be that mod, support for it should be in the thread you gor it from.

Are you using Akismet? That will do what you are seeing.
Thank you Lynne! Yes, I had Akismet enabled through spam-o-matic and disabling that fixed it.
Is there any way to still run Akismet and not have those posts sent to moderation?
Very thankful to you for helping me pinpoint this!

Try playing with the settings in Akismet. For instance, Spam Scanning Post Threshold is set to 0 by default. That means all posts are scanned. I would think that if a user already has a few successful posts, then you can stop scanning them. Maybe try setting that to 5 or so.
Because I have other functions disabled for new users, allowing them to post a link is sort of crucial. So I do not want ANY of them scanned, I guess. So in that case, would it be best to disable it completely? Will I loose other Akismet functionality or is that all it does is scan for a link?

Akismet doesn't just scan for links. But, you may want to try disabling it and see if your forum is running how you want it.
Shoot, I was afraid of that.
Yes, I went ahead and disabled it but I really think I want the Akismet enabled. I just do not like the moderation of posts whenever a newbie posts a link. Sometimes they even get lost in the shuffle and they get over looked and they stay unmoderated for too long.
Again thanks though, I am very relieved to at least know where its coming from!

If your finding moderated posts are getting lost between the hussle n bustle of your site which is what ive found and personally I'd like them approved ASAP.
Try this mod - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=241301
It sends a notification when there is a new post which needs moderating, I've found it a god send. It's turned around my approval time for moderated posts ten fold.
Yes, this will certainly help, thank you very much!!
