My site is currenlty running vBulletin 3.5.3 and we want to buy a new version of vBulletin forum which is 4.0 to make an upgrade at - https://www.vbulletin.com. But as it is written here - https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/upgrade -

You can upgrade to the latest version of vBulletin 4: form any version of vBulletin 3 from version 3.6.0 and newer. If your vBulletin version is older than 3.8.0, it is recommended that you upgrade to at least vBulletin 3.8.0 before you can upgrade to vBulletin 4.

but there's no 3.8 version available, so does all this mean that i can not uprade my current forum ? Or i should first buy some intermediate version?

When you buy a VB4 license you have access to all 3.x and 4.x versions in the member's area.

As Joe said, your vB4 license would give you access to all the previous versions of the released software. So, you would download 3.8.7 and upgrade to that version, do a database/file backup, then upload the vB4 files (currently 4.1.10) and run the upgrade script to upgrade to that version.

Just to jump in.. I just recently did an upgrade from 3.8.7 to 4.1.10 and I have to say it went well smoothly so far.

But if you have problems, or if anyone else needs help send me a msg.

It wasn't too hard, but time consuming since there is a lot of rebuilding of indexes and what not.

The ONLY downside is the style.. I have to totally re-style the forum now from scratch.
