Not many admin options at the moment. The next version (released in a few days hopefully) will contain options to allow usergroups to update status, ban certain users, limit characters per status amongst other things.

You can increase it's size by opening the dmods_live_statusbox_small template and replacing size="6" to something like size="12".

I just installed this mod on VB version 4.1.8, but the Stream and Status does not update.

If I enter something in Status on top, it still says "user has no status", and nothing happens in the Live Stream even if someone is posting threads/posts.

The streams for threads/posts are currently Pro only but these probably will be moved to Lite in a future Beta version.

As for the status issue, could you PM me a link and test account for your site so I can investigate? :)

Thanks for your help. The mod is now working, but experiencing a small problem with UTF-8 characters.

When using a utf-8 character in status box it shows correctly in the postbit, but when refreshing a page, the utf-8 character in the postbit turns into a strange symbol.

Give the guy a break. I can't count how many mods have functions similar/identical to one another, yet they differ in so many ways:
Front and back-end operation.
Compatibility over time.
Support from author.
Paid/free.
Of course you prefer the other one, this one here is still in beta for crying out loud. Does the DBTech one even show new threads/posts?

I have 4.1.10 and it looks as though the mods doesn't work on my site. I think it might be conflicting with a similar facebook mod, but it's hard to say.

The worse part of this mod there is no info anywhere on what should be going on with this mod. There is instructions on how to install it but it all stops there. It shows above "Further information and priority support can be found at http://www.davidsmods.com" but here again there is absolutely nothing to be found there either.

After installing this I searched everywhere in the admincp and the only thing I could find is in settings/options/DavidsMods:Live. On the top of my forum page it shows "Status...". Not sure what it means but it never updates regardless of what kind of activity that goes on on my website. There is a Tab that appears in my Navbar without the option to disable it. When the the Stream Tab is selected it opens up to a empty page. Refresh Stream and again nothing happens. As for where else this mod appears or is suppose to appear, or anything about it I'm clueless. I have no idea how there can be a Pro version when the Lite version has issues or the time taken to inform users on how it works. Sorry if anyone reads this as being negative but I've always had a hard time understanding why some can't be descriptive with their hard work. I guess if we all were mind readers we'd be ok in situations like this.

It shouldn't update automatically at the moment. This might be difficult to do due to how vBulletin handles caching of sidebar blocks. I'll look into the viability of this though! :)

That certainly is an interesting idea. Instant updates would be a great feature in this mod. I'll look into adding that as it shouldn't be too difficult with the way I have the mod setup!

The alternative would be to extend the features of e.g. the MGC Shoutbox. There you can have new threads or replies to threads displayed in the shoutbox. But this can get messy.

So a seperate box that you could easily adjust in its height would be perfect!
If this box would just be 4 or 5 lines in heigt you could always see what is going on in the forum without having to press F5 all the time.
We have some times where we get a lot of support questions and our goal is to answer very fast. So this would just be awesome if this could refresh automatically.
Maybe this block could - optionally - be in two columns where you could define what to show in which column.
Maybe Threads and replies in one column and status updates and other stuff in the other column.

Instant updates are definitely on the table, I just have to find a way to do this without slowing servers down too much! :)

- Identified a caching bug that slowed stream refreshing.
- Moved New Thread streams to Lite.
- Added a new stream for new friends. *
- Added censoring of statuses based upon the default vBulletin setting.
- Added a setting for turning statuses on/off.
- Added a setting for turning the navbar link on/off.
- Fixed a bug that would cause statuses not to update under certain circumstances.

The price increase is due to the mod being moved out of it's beta stage. The $20 price was discounted to accommodate the testing stage!

Will be interesting to see if you can come up with some streams for social groups - an area that IP/vBulletin has sadly neglected; anything that highlights new social groups, new messages within social groups, join request etc would be most welcome :)

Would like to second this. Have tagged mod for now, but definitely intedested in seeing where this goes with the pro version. In the mod control panel do you have the option to enable and disable the different kinds of status updates?

You can find this within the dmods_live_statusbox_small template :)

Changes:
- Added new personal stream for private messages. *
- Added filter function for new thread/reply streams. Allows admins to choose which forums should post stream events.
- Fixed a bug that would cause a fatal error to occur under certain conditions.
- Added check version functionality to the product file.
- Added automatic refresh on the stream page.
- Added an option to set the refresh time on the stream page.

I haven't had a chance to see DBTech mod so I could not comment on that. As for the branding free, it comes free for life with the Pro version.

It doesn't cause many queries at all. I doubt it would impact greatly on your site by having it installed! :)

I installed this on a client's website and found out that placeholder (predefined text in status bar in header) is not a supported HTML attribute in IE (does not display Status...). If anybody is having this problem as well, below is the fix. The code is not mine, it's a jQuery fix.

Yes I know DBT's Live Wall has comments before anyone goes on about copying or similarities but I think they should be limited to comments on user statuses; no need for having them on things like threads or posts (that is why there are forums).

IPB does it pretty well although they allow users to associate their twitter account with their status updates.

yes and no.. Im following both mods and ive got for eg. two usergroups, only one usergroup (premium) can use this type of mod, while the normal usergroup (member) cannot. I dont have an issue with prem members commenting on normal members threads/posts on the 'stream' instead of in thread. With the forum i have, the ability to comment on threads/posts in the stream works for me :)

Basically the same thing. But from different pages. Also, you can't click any post without getting an error. So, you HAVE to disable the mod.

I had the same error with 1.4.0 and 1.4.1 fixed it.

But i have disabled it anyways since this mod breaks special charactes when answering with the quick reply box. One has to refresh the page to see the special characters like the german umlauts.

Nice mod, but unless the sidebar will refresh automatically and the special character problem is fixed i will leave it off.

I'll be assessing the streams in a future version. It may or may not be added to lite then. As for the status box, you can find all CSS in the dmods_live.css template! :)

Private stream is right in the public stream..............If it's a private message to you you will see it however others will not see it and such. I absolutely love the mod as well and have the Pro version. Only wish I had was the live stream updated on the fly such as the way Facebooks works.

Just sharing one more thing I noticed... when you have the stream in the forum block - and you click on the notifications about a post on the thread - it takes you straight to the beginning of the thread. It would be awesome if it took you to the post that it was referencing to reduce the number of clicks to get there....

When I install the mod, and place a block in the forum, all blocks beneath it will have errors in special characters.

The same gos for the statusupdates in the block it self. It cannot show the danish letters æ ø å.

Can this be fixed?

By the way I have found the solution in here is it

basically add the following code anywhere you want the recent statuses to appear

as they using ajax to display status and its assigned with the streamdata id as you can see in the div I have attached it has been assigned with the id accordingly

lol didnt know it will be that easy yet I wished if it was more harder then I would learn more

another help if anyone wanted to limit the status I have found way to do which is not a full solution

but it will do it for now

go to the dmods/live/classes/core.php

open it and search for

{$limit}

replace it with the following

LIMIT 30

as you can see 30 could be any number you would like
