Time off by 6 hours changing GMT setting doesnt do anything.. [Archive]

I have 4.1.9 and my time is off by about 6 hours. I live in Chicago, Illinois and even though its 8:30 here it says 2:30 on my site. I tried changing the time settings to offset 0 but it didn't do anything? Is there something else I need to get it to show my and users local time?

What time zone is your server in? do you have root access?

to show your server time make a file time.php with the following
<html>
<head></head>
<body>
Server Time is <?=date("h:i:s F d Y T")?>.

</body>
</html>

then go to it on your site and see what time it says.

TIME DATE TIMEZONE

For example, my server is located in USA, TX but the time is showing
Server Time is 06:46:15 January 14 2012 MSK
Moscow Standard Time lol

if you live in chicago your offset should be -6

I have a hosting account with godaddy. I am not sure where that would place my server..

Can you dumb that down a little bit? I am somewhat new to all of this although I am doing it all myself..lol

Upload this file to your website via FTP or how ever you upload files, then go to it on your site

mysite.com/time.php (just curious what time your server is set for)

and paste back what it says.

mysite.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions
Also on the main forum site click the Settings link then go to General Settings then scroll down to Date and Time options
and change your time zone to the same as above.
hit save and see if the time on your site is correct.

Sorry forgot to attach it, its in my previous post :) but setting your profile general settings time correctly should resolve your issue. By default vB is set to GMT unless changed at registration or in your account settings.

Below is a shot of my settings, however all of the times on my forum are 6 hours off from my local time.

No real need to change the admin settings. Its the profile settings that really need to be changed.
