Facebook connect links to # since upgrade to 4.1.8 - disabled all plugins and still does the same.
Any ideas?

It's OK that it links to '#' because the button action is done in javascript.

But the facebook connect button doesn't work anymore oon click it does nothing.
I noticed that, I was just saying that I don't think the '#' link has anything to do with it. We don't use that on our site, and I tried to set up a test site but I couldn't find where on the facebook site to get an application ID. But I did verify (on my site) that FB.getLoginStatus() was being called when the button was pressed.

Do you have any other Facebook Elements, for example the Fan Widget in your sidebar?
For example if you copy the Fan Widget code into the sidebar it will include Javascript which will cause the error. If you remove all the javascript so you are just left with the <div>....<//div> section at the end it will resolve your issue

Nope, and that wouldn't explain why it was working before the upgrade to 4.1.8....thanks

Create a new style with no parent:
Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Add New Style
Parent Style: No Parent Style
Title: Default vBulletin
Allow User Selection: Yes
Save
Then browse the site using that totally default vbulletin style - do you still have the same problem?

Doesn't make any difference. You can see on www.ukcigarforums.com and selecting vb4 Default Style.
Thanks.

There are no JS errors, and the facebook stuff is in the footer source.

I also cannot seem to get the built in Facebook Connect to function, it also does not use the pre-identified pic when posting threads to Facebook.

It seems that you're getting an error from facebook when it tries to connect that says "Invalid Application ID: The provided Application ID is invalid.". You say it was working before so I'm not sure what would cause it to become invalid. Maybe there's some other problem going on (I don't really know a lot about how the facebook api works).

You facebook app id looks incorrect (I think it's just supposed to be 15 numbers, no characters). Please check those settings in your options and compare them to the settings on your facebook app.

I'm getting the same problem. I am running VB 4.0.4 on http://onlivefans.com
It's been working for over a year and then about 3 days ago when users click on the fbconnect button the normal popup window doesn't open.
Can anyone help me with this?

If you are running 4.0.4, then I believe you are going to have problems as the upgrade in the default software was done for 4.1.17 and above. You will need to upgrade, or download a later version and view the differences.

Lynne, why is it that it worked previously, and then all of a sudden stopped?

My forum also has stopped popping up the Facebook connect. Nothing above clues us in on why this is happening or what to do about it.
I tried to follow the upgrade procedure for Fbconnect-3.05 and my forum was dead for a bit, until I reversed the process of installing.

I'm pretty sure this is related to the problem: http://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/614/
ETA: and here's at least one thread from vbulletin.com discussing the issue: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/388557-Reminder-Upgrade-Your-App-to-OAuth-2-0-and-HTTPS-by-October-1st

Having the same issue, could it be a change within Facebook itself? Maybe the javascript file?

k, upgraded to 4.1.9 and it works now

Yes (see what I posted above). According to this thread: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/388557-Reminder-Upgrade-Your-App-to-OAuth-2-0-and-HTTPS-by-October-1st a change was made in 4.1.8 to deal with it, so I think if your version is older than that it's not going to work any more.

I wish I'd known about this earlier - I'm paying money for facebook adverts to get people to register and they can't!

Make sure you have a valid application ID in the settings, even if what you have was working before.

Damn it - this was it, it seems to differ from the ID I had originally.
Cheers!
Yeah, I'm not sure but I think they used to have a different id called an api key that was interchangeable with the app ids, and now with the change that happened in Dec. the api keys don't work any more.
