View Full Version : Moderators Functions - Moderator Checkpoint System

Hello everyone,
I recently hired a coder to do a complete rewrite of this hack because it's so darn useful, I asked the coder to completely rewrite it from the bottom up; I have explicit permission to share this freely with the community & it's my pleasure to give back.
To install the product upload the content of forum folder to your forum's root directory and import product-kirky_moderatorcheckpoint_117.xml file.
Please note that all manual template edits described in old installation for 3.x.x instruction document are no longer needed (and are not valid). Now all edits are done automatically using PHP.
Just upload and import, thats it!
For boards with a large moderating staff, it can be difficult to know who has checked what post and which threads are completely checked. The goal of the Moderator Checkpoint System is to ensure that moderators don't read over the same post(s) twice, leaving them to spend this time checking other posts/threads.
The core functionality of the Moderator Checkpoint System (MCS) is the ability (for those with appropriate permission) to mark threads/posts as having been "Checked" - indicating that no further action is required and the thread(s)/post(s) has/have been given the OK by a Staff Member. When a post is marked as checked, the checking user's User ID, Username, and a timestamp is stored in the database. This information then appears on the checked post(s), and the post will change markup (depending on your customizations through the included options) indicating the post has been checked. This process is, of course, completely invisible to the community at-large, and only those Users with adequate permission will be allowed to Check/Uncheck and view Checked posts/threads.
Because some Moderators may like to browse forums normally, a feature has been integrated that will allow each user to Enable/Disable viewing the forum in "Moderation Mode" at their leisure. Disabling Moderation Mode will return the display of posts/threads to their normal state.
---------------------------------------------------
This hack was made for use with vBulletin Default Style, however please feel free to modify it to work with your own style.
No support will be given for this hack, as I am not a coder; I'm an end user that is giving this hack to the community.
The coder that I paid for this hack is as noted.

Two different files are attached, one is modified for the Avenger Blue Style, and the other is an unmodified version for vB Default Style.

I might have posted the one modified for my style by accident, when I get home in an hour I will check to see if it's my fault, I have two versions, one for Avenger Blue style (modified to work) and the default vbulletin style one.
--------------------- edit
I have attached the original unmodified version of the hack, and relabelled the modified version for Avenger Blue Style.
I apologize for my mixup.

Thanks for that, but it seems the download for the default is corrupt. Can you please check on that. Thank you so much.

It works on my 4.1.9 forum. Are you making sure to click in the upper right corner to put yourself in moderation mode? Or going to View all Moderators and giving your user permissions to check threads/posts? Are you setting it up?

Hm i've tried both modifications and they both didn't work on 4.1.8
I added my user group to the moderation mode, that didn't change something.
I would find that modification very useful. Can you try to contact the coder, that he/they can fix that/update it for vbulletin from 4.1.8 pls?

The person who shared this has already said he is providing no support and that it works fine on his site. He isn't going to ask the coder for anything as the job is done for him.
I have also verified that it works just fine on my default 4.1.9 site. You need to click to enable it in the upper right corner. If you don't enable it there, it will not work.

Hm now I made an update to 4.1.10.
But the options on Forumhome to turn Moderation Mode on and off are gone. I don't know why. Even installing the mod again didn't fix the problem :(

Ensure you set the permissions in Forums and Moderators, for each use you want to use it!

I just checked on my 4.1.12 test site and it works fine.
Don't forget.. you need to give the moderators permission to use the system under Forums & Moderators > Show Moderators > Edit Permissions and then the moderator must click to turn the system on in the upper right corner.

Sorry Lynne but this does not work in 4.2. I have the moderators/admins permissions set for the forums. I installed everything but I still do not see a notification link at the top of the forum even if I'm using the default skin. It still does not show. Makes me think that possibly there was a hook change or some sort of change recently in the header template where it is no longer calling the notifications in the header.
Installed on a 4.1.8 and working.
So far I only experienced one issue, that´s related to checking amounts of posts or whole threads and the active moderation mode. Every checked post has a line "Checked by <xyz> on <date> at <time>. If you´re running in active moderation mode or you try to mark more than one posting this line appears in most of the checked posts, in some not. No idea why this happens. Anyone?
@Lynne:
have you ever experienced that, too?

I only installed this modification to see if it worked - I don't actively use it on a live site, so I have never seen what you are talking about.

I just enabled this modification again on my 4.2.1 site and it still works just fine. All I can think is that you aren't giving your moderators permission to check posts. If you have those permissions still set to No (like they are by default), then it isn't going to work and you aren't going to see the link.

I made sure those permissions are set. Still nothing in the header. Even on default style. I also got this error:
Fatal error: Class 'vBV_Tools' not found in /home/thebull/public_html/forums/includes/vbpkir/postbit_display_complete.php on line 38
And I made sure all the files were uploaded.

4.2.2 PL 1 - working as designed
A suggestion (if anyone is still working on this):
when active moderation mode is ON, we discovered many posts becoming checked, even that we hadn?t read the entire post. That way - with the displayed checked status - we?d missed a bunch of posts, which should have been moderated, cause nobody checked them again. We found out that (with our surfin behavior) we?d missed nearly 15% of all posts. We were very surprised to see that number.
As a result, we all switched from active to manual moderation. But: if you suspend the active moderation mode you have to check every single post via a checkbox and additional you have to go to the mod-menue to click "mark checked posts as checked". That`s a bit unhandy in times of AJAX. It would be a great help, if this could be changed to a simple click on a little postbit_check_image, that then flags the post as "checked". Lot faster and more convienent.
But as said: it?s just a suggestion to improve the every day work with it. As it is it works flawless - and that?s most important. This mod makes moderating a lot easier. Recommended for every Mod-Team.
