InfoThis mod ads last posters' avatars next to their names on Forumdisplay pages. I've just finished a section of one of my bigger mods to come, and thought that some of you may just need this little enhancement on their forums. If so, feel free to download and test it.
FeaturesNot too many features for now, it's a pretty straight forward mod. I'm always open to your suggestions though.

- Display last poster avatars in threadbits on forumdisplay
- Display last poster avatars in forumbits on forumhome and forumdisplay
- Admin settings to enable display of last poster avatars in certain areas or disable globally
- Set an avatar size to best match the layout
- Choose an alternative avatar display on forumbits

Do you mind getting in touch via PM and share your install details with me so that I could take a quick look into it? I installed a test vB 4.1.8, and it worked well with the original mod version. I then installed vBSEO and it did not break anything. So I assume you're facing some sort of a mod incompatibility issue there.

In that case it's not vBSEO the conflicting part here. I installed it on my end as well, and it did not affect my mod. Could you at least message me the list of plugins that you have installed? Ideally, I'd prefer to take a look personally, that would be the quickest way to a fix.

On a side note, to everyone, this is a beta stage mod, cooperation is more than welcome, rather than ignorance.

Thanks for confirming that to me. I wish the others we a bit more responsive in trying to help me determine the cause of the error and provide a fix for them rather than just stop by to say "doesn't work" and then leave.

The error message points to a missing file on the server. Could you manually check for the presence of functions_user.php inside /includes directory? Can you see it there? Perhaps with a different file extension like .php5 etc? Just a guessing.

The problem is the "." after the "forums" in the required path. It's like your script is assuming only a relative path but something in vB is asserting and absolute path first.

Yes, I've just noticed that a bit earlier, and have updated the xml installer so you can download a new copy from the original post in this thread and try again.

I have removed the functionality that was reported to be buggy, due to lack of response from the affected users. Until we resolve this issue, you may download a simplified version of the mod.

What version of vB are you using? Are your stylesheets stored as files? I would like to take a look at your form as I can't reproduce this error on my test install, I switched between saving the stylesheets as files and store it in the database, this mod performs just fine in both cases on my end.

When I first installed 1.02 the first time I looked at the forums page the avatars where full sized the second load they were resized am thinking that was vbulletin shrinking them down on first pageview... And once the size was auto set all avatars were fine from any computer with no over sized first time loads of the forums...

Only major thing was double avatars with 1.02 on my site... and that was only in the forum view

Thanks for letting me know, I'll add an extra conditional to check if user has got an avatar before attempting to display it. Will do that later today when I get back to my work computer.

I have addressed both posts above by adding a conditional to check for user's avatar presence, and if missing, either a default avatar can be entered to display (admin option) or no avatar at all is shown.

Thanks for the question, I've added an extra option to set the avatar size individually for threadbits and forumbits display. That way you can make it larger on homepage if you wish. Included in version 1.0.5 of this mod.

By the way, I thought tiny mods take less time to dedicate to.

I confirm that you can test it out safely, simply install and check it right away. I don't see why it wouldn't work on vB 4.0.2. If the avatars don't show up, let me know and I'll check it out for a possible compatibility issue to fix, eventually.

So if your forum isn't popular, with 20-30ppl at once - OK, but when you get 400-500 users at once - you will be in trouble with high DB server load.
You can try "Inner join" to get avatars

The newest (1.0.0) version of this mod addresses the extra database queries and removes all for better behaviour on large forums. You can test it out and see if all is fine now, marking it as installed would be great, too.

You can now choose between two positions of the avatar in forumbits, as per your request.

try the following instead and use relative path

Those having issues with the mod please be more specific to help me reproduce the problem on my end, I'll do my best to troubleshoot and get back with a fix whenever required. This new release is a rework to exclude the extra queries to the database, so bugs can happen, please keep in mind it's still a beta stage mod.

I'm having the same issues as most here. The filename is being truncated somehow. I can say that I have the forum home integrated with a vbadvanced page, so maybe that may have something to do with. Oddly the older versions worked fine, so I dunno.

Oh, and you might want to edit the original post:

No settings at this point. I'm sure some of you will ask how to enable this feature on certain forums only, and I'm going to work on that as soon as I get some time to spend on this mod to enhance it further. Please be patient in the meantime, my current schedule is overloaded.

Found a bug/problem.

On the Forums Home, say you have Sub-Forums, if a poster posts on a Thread in the Sub-Forum it doesn't show their av on the Forums Home, it will show the av of the last poster within the main Forum not the Sub Forum even though the last post showing on the Forums Home is from the Sub Forum.

Hope you understand what I mean.
Check it out and test it with a Forum which has a Sub Forum to it.

Now the avatar appears if the link is like this:

But if there is two digits after (_), for example:

http://www.domain.com/forum/avatar/customavatars/avatar8701_59.gif

The link will be like this:
http://www.domain.com/forum/avatar/customavatars/avatar8701_5.gif

There is no avatar because the last (9) is missing and will not include in the link!

It is apart from what I wrote about the SubForum problem.
Do you have SubForums?
If so post in one and you will see that on the Forum home page your av isn't showing as the last poster.

Found a bug/problem.

On the Forums Home, say you have Sub-Forums, if a poster posts on a Thread in the Sub-Forum it doesn't show their av on the Forums Home, it will show the av of the last poster within the main Forum not the Sub Forum even though the last post showing on the Forums Home is from the Sub Forum.

Hope you understand what I mean.
Check it out and test it with a Forum which has a Sub Forum to it.

I did not take screen shots of this. I rolled back to 1.0.5a version and got the default avatar back and they worked like a charm. Lost the option to move the avatar to the left though. i created a new forum/category
i was the first person to post in it, it decided to show a different users avatar and profile, this mod needs to be checked for errors in coding it seriously messed up my board showing the other guys avatar as the last peron who posted even though i was the only poster in that forum

there are also other plugins that go with this
login to your hosting control panel and open up PHPMySQL or similar
you have to ensure that the fieldname e.g. avatarid etc exists

or the other option who be to uninstall it and reinstall the mod

I have fixed the avatar display issue brought to you with the 1.1.0 release. As a matter of fact, I haven't tested on forums that were set to save avatars as files, and I've fixed the problem now. Upgrading to V4.1.11 it is working fine except for the default guest avatar. It displays userid # 127 for the avatar instead. Not a big deal, but something to look at when updating this mod. Great mod though and one that our members love.

Installed on 4.2. I'd like to use the non legacy version with the avatar on the left and everything else on the right. When I select this option, the following happens. (see attached)

The legacy version works fine, as it should.

I just installed both and don't see any conflicts. Not yet anyway, as have only used it for a few minutes of testing.

EDIT: ok, I noticed that when both are enabled that the default avatar overwrites the DP started thread user avatar.

So I've installed this, and it works, but there seems to be a small issue.

On the main index page, avatars don't update for a while.

For example, say Person 1 makes a post in the Spammy Fun thread in the Random Area forum and has an avatar of Tommy from Rugrats. Person 2, with an avatar of Angelica from Rugrats, comes along and makes a post in the same thread, but Person 1's avatar is still showing on the index.

Forums themselves seem fine, though.

I had similar probs (not necessarily this mod but in general) with some avatars not updating on the index and threads (I added a mini avatar to quoted replies - modded class_bbcode.php to show proper avatar). I had to to setup a small plugin for hook location 'profile_updateavatar_complete' with the below to fix the issue. I also run geeky default avatar in addition to this mod.

Disabling it for now until the sub forum problem can be fixed, getting too many members complaining that someone elses avatar is showing as theirs. Otherwise this is a great feature. Any chance for a temporary fix on this in the meantime?

On the forum display something is conflicting which makes avatars on some users not show up. This is on the forum display only and not forum home .

When i disable "Hook Threadbit Query Fields & Joins" in this mods plugins everything goes back to normal .

it is simple. you need to find .lastpostby .avatar, .lastposttitle .avatar in your css and change this property: float:left To float:right

save it after all and you are done.

I prefer this mod to the others because it doesn't use any database queries :) Depending on your forum size, this can seriously save 20-30 queries every homepage load.

You can fix the subforum issue by manually creating a hook in /includes/functions_forumlist.php

Search:
$templater = vB_Template::create('forumhome_lastpostby');

Add above:
($hook = vBulletinHook::fetch_hook('lastpostby')) ? eval($hook) : false;

Make a new file in /includes/xml/ called hooks_lastpostby.xml with the following content:

<hooktype type="lastpostby">
<hook>lastpostby</hook>
</hooktype>
</hooks>

And finally, go to your plugins and edit Fetch Last Poster Avatars on Forumbits

Change the hook from forumbit_display to lastpostby (lastpostby)

Save, and your forum home avatars are fixed!

Note: The above fix only resolves the bug where avatars show incorrectly down the entire forum listing when subforums exist. I'm currently working on fixing the other bug where Last Post area shows avatar of parent forum, not subforum, even if last poster is from subforum.

I've also made a few modifications to have this code play nice with Digital Point thread avatars, if anyone else was running into trouble with that. Just let me know and I can share my changes.

Again, I definitely recommend using this mod over the other if you care about query usage.

Well, I finally figured out the subforum thing. Requires code edits, as there aren't any hooks nearby. Open up /includes/functions.php

Find:
$threadinfo = array(

Add in your avatar variables like below (be careful with commas!)

$threadinfo = array(
'title' => $lastpostinfo['lastthread'],
'threadid' => $lastpostinfo['lastthreadid'],
'avatardateline' => $lastpostinfo['avatardateline'],
'hascustomavatar' => $lastpostinfo['hascustomavatar']

Then you can simply call these variables in a forumhome plugin like so:

$lp_dateline = $lastpostinfo['avatardateline'];
$lp_userid = $lastpostinfo['userid'];
$hascustomavatar = $lastpostinfo['hascustomavatar'];

You can even do this without the forumhome plugin just by getting the variables from template. (Still need the query plugin, of course).
