Showing the active posts on non-vb page

I would like to show let's say the 5 latest active posts of the moment (so if somebody posts/replies, it becomes an active posts) on a page , but not a vb page. I see it on a lot of sites, but does there exist a free hack for it ? Cuse I'm not good at php at all, so if one exist or the code to do it, could you help me out ?
