Custom forum icons -- how to?

I've been researching this on Google and searching here, but finding a good solid answer is hard. How do I add individual forum icons to my board? We had individual icons set up in our previous style, but the designer who installed them is no longer with us, and I'm not quite as clever as him. :D

I tried to go to Manage Forums and then specify an image under where it says forum icon, but it simply blanked out the icon completely.

What should I do?

If you want your own status icons for a particular forum, you would enter a prefix, or directory, into the Forum Manager where it says "Prefix for Forum Status Images" Then you need to create a new icon for each of the following and either add the prefix to the beginning of the name, or put them in the directory you listed in that box:
