Would it be possible for members to be able to change the colour of their usernames, using vBcode or something, so for example I was Colin W or Colin W??

If anyone could help I would be very grateful.

Names.

webhost, I saw that thread.. but isn't that hack for the online members list?

I meant a hack that changes the name next to the post to a colour of the member's choice, which they access via their control pannel.

Just create a new custom field and use it for the color.
