Internal Server Error

When I go to the "whats new" link I get

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

It just occurred out of the blue with no recent changes.

any thoughts as to what could cause it?

As the error says, this is a server issue and you should look in your error_logs.
