[vB 4.1.5]Constant errors since downtime

Hi, just wondered if anyone else has experienced this or can confirm that the issue is with my host.

Basically my site had some downtime yesterday morning due to a issue with my host, and since coming back up, the vBulletin "Currently Active Users" section at the bottom keeps emptying itself. It is supposed to show used logged in within the last 15 minutes, but it seems every 10 minutes it is just removing everyone from the list.

I have checked the vB cookie settings etc and they are all fine, i have even changed the activity timeout to 3600 (1 hour) but still after 10 minutes the list is emptied and it goes back to 0 before growing again as people click.

For example it will show 45 users online (23 members and 22 guests) and they have all been active within the last 10 minutes, and then suddenly it will say 0 online (0 members and 0 guests)

It seems to be happening because of a database error which is happening a few times a hour, my technical email has 500+ emails since yesterday morning with the error below,

I have disabled ALL plugins and addons etc and touchbb and some theme stuff and it is still happening.

I have contacted my host twice and they have "looked into it" and assure me the issue is not server side.

So now i have no idea what todo.

Any help will be much appreciated, thanks in advance

I assume no info changed in the downtime, ie... db user credentials in config.php, then the issue is indeed on their side, the error would show a different msg if those credentials were wrong.

I would guess at this point as i dont have server access, that its timing out trying to connect as the db server is to busy.

Check these variables for sql in the admincp:
connect_timeout = ?
interactive_timeout = ?
wait_timeout = ?

What was the issue with your host? Did they change anything on the server because it certainly sounds like they did.

They assure me nothing has changed. However as you say it seems too much of a coincidence that it worked perfectly before the downtime, and now i have this issue after the downtime. I would say that the hosting company i am with is beyond awful, i have had 4 periods of downtime within the last 2 weeks. I am considering changing host however i would like to prove for sure that the issue i am having is indeed there fault.

You can view those mysql variables in admincp > maintenance > diagnostics > System Information > mysql variables

Under the mysql status, what is the uptime say?

Those are fine, Zachery has a point as well, but i dont see them doing it intentionally, but keep checking what Zachery pointed out every hour & see if the uptime continues to grow, once your receive the error recheck the uptime.

They may have a screwed up installation of sql on that server though, but with out access to the sql logs, we will never know.

Ok so i assume the uptime is in seconds? It was at

Uptime : 2962

Then i got a flood of database errors and the usual reset of my online users and the uptime now says

Uptime : 192

Does this then indicate the mysql server itself restarted or crashed?

Yes it does, SQL was restarted.

This is a host issue, not a site issue, i assume this is a vhosted account?

vhosted? I'm currently on shared hosting. As i previously said the company i am with has been pretty awful the past few weeks so this has just confirmed my decision to move away from them. I will be going for a VPS next as my forum is now probably on the verge of outgrowing a shared host.
