hello,
I was just curious if someone could possibly shed some light as to why vBulletin isn't available on Softaculous?
Per this thread on Softaculous's site, http://www.softaculous.com/board/index.php?tid=1213&title=Forum_Script_Request
it appears that vBulletin is blocking the addition...It would be incredibly helpful for many if it were a viable option.
I'm not +++++ing or complaining, just looking for the justification of why this isn't being allowed.
Thanks!

I'm not sure how softaculous works, but I'd guess we do not allow others to distrubute the software.
How do they handle other paid software?
In addition, vBulletin is fairly trivial to install.

Since vbulletin is still a part of Fantastico (?), there has to be more to the story.
I'm sure virtually everyone here would agree it's a Really Bad Idea to install any complex software package automatically - in the end, you've learned nothing about it and will have a very hard time keeping it updated.
But in terms of market penetration it's at least good to get the name out in packages like this.

vBulletin is part of fantastico?I thought it was. But if not, it should be. Again, it's a question of exposure.

The way to utilize Softaculous installer is to have the initial form that is filled out to have a fields where a valid license number is checked against a the IP address. So having been directed to purchase the license via a link just above the field the user copies and paste the code onto the screem to proceed.
Said license fee code is then checked when submitted over the net, it will not function without internet connection. If the license and the web servers listed IP address do not match the license number then a false (simple one bit reply) is sent to the installer and it discontinues or takes them back to the License Code Input Screen.
Same method use to install WHMCS the hosting e-commerce script.
If someone could put that together I am sure I and a whole lot of others would consider your efforts worthy of reward if it works...lol
