The chat uses his server resources, so i guess it's not a backdoor.

NOBODY, ABSOLUTELY NOBODY, INSTALL THIS

check first the source code for this:
http://gate1.bowobcloud1.com/1/bl_2_17/chat.js
http://gate1.bowobcloud1.com/1/bl_2/loader.js

extract information from which are installed and the link sent by those
these have a backdoor .... this son of a b*** want to hack us.....
Unfortunately I fell, so if someone wants to be fu**ed, go ahead.

EDIT TO ADD A NOTE
Also, thanks to this hack lost some of my database, since it is tube to restore my site from the same server from my host to a day before and because of that, I lost both users, themes, content and inputs from more , there for you to think.

Those are pretty serious allegations...

From the Product Description:

No server needed: BoWoB doesn't use your server resources nor slow down your website. BoWoB manages the security, infrastructure and updates of your chat.

Therefore it is inevitable there will be server calls to his server in the mod.

The "External Content" flag was set for this mod appropriately confirming it requires data from outside your domain to work.

Please either confirm your allegation with specific code in question or consider editing your post to remove this "warning."

Ok a little follow up on this serious issue:

I tried to unistall this product then as ever delete the files and this has had massive implications, which can be seen from the email direct from host about the server........

Earlier this evening Bluecore10 crashed without reason. At this point we dispatched our on site tech's who found the server offline. They attempted a reboot to find that the system has corrupted both the hard drives in our systems running under Raid1.

This is extreamly rare, but at this time they are advising the system can't be booted up in its current state. As such we have taken the decition to setup a new server and restore all web sites to this new server from our backups. We understand that this is not an ideal situation but was our only option.

With this option we will try to restore every web site as quickly as possible but at this time we can't give an ETA. We will though be arranging for a specialist to take a look at this server and see if data on the hard drives can be recovered.

Please accept our applogies and we will work to resolve this ASAP!

Now this happened "exactly" when i was carrying out the deletion and uninstall......... coincidence - im cynical as are the host. The whole issue is serious and i would go as far as to say this needs ceasing asap. With some information along with it.

I am sad to say my forum is around 5 years old so not a baby and wether i recover this is debateble..................

We are seeking all the information possible with a view to litigation if this is due to negligence or some other actions involved

Hello,

This mod has been tested in vB4.x.
Since its release, several websites are using it without any problem.

"Call to undefined function" error seems to be due to install/uninstall the mod without following the README file steps.

@nacaruncr, @basilrath:
The mod hasn't the power to cause disk corruption / hacks / ... to your servers.
Php code is clear, simple and follow all the vB code standards.
Javascript code is executed in the user browser.

In my honest opinion:
@nacaruncr server was hacked before install this mod.
@basilrath is a sad and unrelated coincidence.

Anyway, the source code is there, anyone with knowledge can check it.
As the moderator said: "confirm your allegation with specific code in question or consider editing your post to remove this "warning".

@nacaruncr: I expect an apology from you because of your insults towards me.

@DNCL, demo chat is working. It seems some incompatibility in your computer: are you using a proxy ?

DNCL
08-01-2011, 11:40 AM
Tried it on 2 connections one with proxy and one without, same.
Also tried it on Windows and on Mac, after keeping the window open for a while on the Mac machine i've noticed that the firefox reporting a flash player crash.
Also on a windows machine that has IDM (Internet Download Manager) installed, once the demo site loads the download manager popsup asking me if i want to download many files like mp3 sounds.

bowob

Chat theme contains gif and mp3 files, for the chat emoticons and sound notification.

Currently, Bowob has some problems when using some proxys. This is an unusual problem, but they are working on solve it.

OK... Today I installed this chat, configured it, it worked, then I uninstalled it, and EVERYTHING WAS FINE.

While I don't use the term "impossible" lightly it would pretty much be impossible for this mod to ever cause the problems reported by basilrath above. It sounds like his ISP was having hardware issues completely unrelated to this mod.

I installed it and uninstalled it without issue.

I followed the install instructions.

At first I also was getting just the "loading" message in the chat bar... I think this is the issue- when setting up the account it asks for your website URL, which I put in as www.juot.net. However chat isn't installed in my forum root. After I setup the account I hit the "Settings" option and there was a new option not presented during the initial account setup- Modification address. This needs to be the URL to your /forums/ directory (or wherever you installed the bowob.php file.)

Once I updated this setting after a few minutes everything started working fine. (It tells you it may take up to 15 minutes for the change to take effect.)

OK so once it was all working I tried to uninstall.

I went to Admin CP -> product manager -> and uninstalled the product.

Then via FTP I deleted the 3 files I uploaded bowob.php, and the two in the includes folder.

Again everything was fine- my server is fine, and everything still works.

I do not have a need for a vBulletin 4.x chat program but I can confirm if you follow the instructions this mod will install and uninstall without issue.

I tried loading this and only get the "chat loading" text and nothing is clickable.

Our company firewall blocks the bowob site so I am guessing that may be the issue.

Hello,

I don't understand your question very well.
If you are talking about "sound notifications", you may configure your chat dashboard with enabled sound notifications by default, and then an user may disable it manually in the chat options menu.

This looks fairly identical to ArrowChat, how does this chat compare to ArrowChat? Is it faster, more feature rich, etc?

This looks fairly identical to ArrowChat, how does this chat compare to ArrowChat? Is it faster, more feature rich, etc?

The main difference is that BoWoB is a service, it means updates, support and that it doesn't use your server resources.
In addition, BoWoB is simple to install and has extraordinary performance (sockets).

I tried all of the vbulletin chat addons and this is the only one that worked correctly.. all of the other ones didnt load or were slow or had compatibility issues with my other addons.. the only thing I would like to ask for is a way to host the files on my own server instead of third party servers..

bowob
11-20-2011, 09:42 PM
Sorry, it is a third party service.

On the other hand, it doesn't use your server resources nor slow down your website. They mange the security, infrastructure and updates of your chat.

I have been using this chat since it first came out, going on over 2 years now I believe and I love it.

In the beginning it had a lot more options that it does now, it is very watered down but it is still a very good chat solution to have on your site.

I have installed this chat system on over 10 websites and I have never run into any problems with database or disk corruption, hacks or any other issues in the time I have been using it. If you go to Joomla's extension page you can see that I was the first one to give a review about this chat system and to this day I stick to it.

I will be installing it now on my bBulletin install and hope it works out the same.

Chat Size

Hi.

I wanted to know if it is possible to reduce the size of the chat bar. Instead of having all the screen resolution as long as it is scalable in the sense of length. Also because I occupies the space of a few notifications of another addon.

Sorry for my english.

Best regards

Hi nerowolfe,

You can edit the Css of the chat to achieve this.
Navigate to your account at www.bowob.com, "Appearance - Custom Css".
