What to look for?

I am a project manager, not a coder. I have a client who has an existing vB I think running some version of 3.7 they like it very well, but they'd like to change it up a bit. The'd like a new front page, that pulls the last image from certain pre selected forums. I'm attaching a wireframe of what they are hoping for from the new homepage.

In addition, they'd like to have some links to the most recent, most replies, etc on a new right hand column that universally wraps around the pages.

I'm wondering, are these just hacks, or is there a package that someone has created that I should check out. I can't figure out what it would be called....

Maybe vbadvanced CMPS? http://www.vbadvanced.com/products.php?do=productinfo&productid=4 ? I think it lets you do most of what you mentioned except maybe the last image thing, but you could check to see if someone's written a module for that.
